  1. You have never heard one if this is your opinion. There is no boom boom boom, its not a poorly tuned car sub. I think the Klipsch THX subs are great for what they are but the sound of a proper horn subwoofer blows them away in all categories. Loudness is not everything, its the sound that makes the difference. Room modes & room gain work alike weather its a horn or direct radiating type so you get the same problem. Most of us don't load our space up with traps & sound absorption panels so it is what it is, in fact most place their subs where its most aesthetically pleasing instead of where it performs best. Next time you're out this way come have a listen, my door is always open for those interested.
  2. While its a nice idea in theory to have flatter response in a subwoofer once you put it in a room all deals are off, room gain and room modes dictate your frequency response curves more than anything else. The low frequencies are where you need the horn to keep distortion at a minimum. Horn subwoofers blend seamlessly with horn loaded mains, direct radiating models do not.
  3. I'm with Willard here, NAD makes great stuff.
  4. Glad you're happy with your new grille's Ryan. They do look like supersized cornwall's. Thank's for all the nice comments.
  5. What i would recommend if using just one subwoofer would be a double 8" loaded Table Tuba or the Tuba HT in any version. I have 2 Table Tuba's available to listen to if you wanted to hear one, no THT built right now. Just PM or E-Mail if you're interested in a demo.
  6. Your best choice would be a horn loaded subwoofer to go with your fully horn loaded mains, a 20" X 14" subwoofer of any type is not going to be a good choice. Been there, done that.

  8. Have not really studied politics, but I remember Bill Clinton, can I have an intern ? No comment on the inhaling question. Not that I'm a Obama fan but at least he had the gonads to admit inhaling. "When I was a kid I inhaled frequently. That was the point". Speaking of points, good reason to have a dedicated intern.
  9. Lots of talent here, saw all those bands back in the day. Not quite the impact of AC/DC, Iron Maiden or Ronnie James Dio but i do like sound. Good find.
  10. I heard a pair of these at a company picnic a while back, don't remember being impressed by them though it could have been the cheap Behringer amps at fault. Not 100 % sure but i recall seeing 1/4" jack inputs.

    Beer me, ASAP

Depends how my wallet unfolds. Hacker Pschorr Beck's Icehouse Not a Lite beer drinker but i don't mind Amstel light.
  12. Yes, Claude brought up the F-20 first. I was referring to your "knockoff" statement. I think Claude has some valid points. Why clutter up the "What is more accurate hornes or cones" thread with this. I am entitled to my opinion am i not ?
  13. The THT was designed around the Adire Tempest 15 but the driver has been discontinued. The Dayton RSS390 is a much better driver anyways.
  14. ? I never would have considered the relationship between the two but you said "The F-20 is just a THT knockoff". I was just curious as to why you thought so or brought it up in the first place. We can close the subject if you like. Claude brought up the F-20 before i mentioned the subject in post #64, i did not bring it up.
  15. Straighten the horn path and you will see, the F-20 even uses the same recommended driver.
  16. I'm just a builder and gave my opinion on the subject and could care less one way or the other. I don't speak for Bill Fitzmaurice and I'm quite sure he does not speak for me. Feel free to post on the subject wherever you feel is best, this may not be the proper place for it in my opinion.
  17. Good idea, Lil Mike could post on Bill's forum or one of the many DIY forum's and answer any questions about the design. Not sure about the other designs myself but others on a DIY forum may be able to offer more insight.
  18. According to Claude the F-20 has a longer horn path. As noted, I don't have the plans for the THT. The reason I asked was because there was a question posted earlier as to how you figure the horn path and how BFM does. It seemed different. So i could add a inch or whatever to the La Scala cabinet and call it my design ? If your Lascala looks nothing like the original, works better If it worked better it would be a plus, no doubt there, the La Scala design has been copied on more than one occasion. and is easier to build then sure. This could be a tradeoff, easy does not always mean better By your logic, every horn that is anywhere near the same length as another is copying it. I just don't see it. YMMV. I never said anything about horn length.

  20. Is this the same way you interpreted that the F-20 was a rip off of Bills design? The horm path itself is practically identical, what would you call it ?
  21. Looking at the horn from the side it's a 3 foot square. Square, cube. same thing in a 2 dimensional side view like i was speaking of.
  22. If you look at the difference between a small, medium, and large pizza, a small change in radius, say 2 inches, nearly double the area of the pie. By the same token, a folded horn path is based on the ACOUSTIC center of the emerging "air bubble", NOT the outside edges of the lumber. You should be able to Email Bill and see if he give you the same answer if you doubt my comment. Just Does not seem right is all, since its Bill's design I'm sure his measurements are correct and my interpretation is not.
