  1. Working today on a 1019 I just picked up. Great table, but can be finicky . . . unless you work on turntables, make sure ALL functions are in working order when you are auditioning. Ensure there is a proper sled on which the cartridge is mounted. Most dual cartridges are model specific. One guy on the bay makes sleds for $45 . . . . Nearly impossible to find an original if you like to change, carts a lot. That said, the 1019 is one of the best vintage Duals out there when working. They have a cult-like following. There is plenty of support out there on the www and a couple who rebuild for a price. What you will notice, the 1019s are auto or manual, and are generally known for bringing out the low end. The 7 lb platter is moved by a rubber idler wheel. I bought mine cheap, and if I can bring it up to speed, is going to become my primary 2 channel vinyl and tubes tt. ,if not, will sell it for parts. Just visit audiokarma's turntable forum and read around. Idler's are not for everyone. But of the Duals, a working 1019 is my favorite.
  2. tube fanatic, thanks for the link on cable piers trestles. In comparison i've found that i much prefer using the old glass telephone wire insulators. The sound improvement is pretty much the same, but since they have been in service for decades holding wires loaded with telephone signal, they do not require any break in period whatsoever. Just use them and right away you are getting all you can get out of keeping your speaker cables off the floor. I found two large boxes of those--green glass telephone wire insulators--15 years ago in an outbuilding of a house we bought 15 years ago. Carted them from Indiana to Georgia. Wife made me throw them away--100 of them--two months ago at the dump. Never imagined there was a use for them for speakers! I should have asked!
  3. How can they be older than the AA in the pic? [^o)]. Glad you got them working. How about some pics of the now working La Scalas?
  4. Scrap, you might look at the RW-12D at Newegg . . . Keeps dipping below $300 when you are setup on newegg auto email. Numerous threads on another site for it. I picked one up for my wife in her home office between a couple of La Scalas . . . She like some thump. Had it for six months . . . Should have bought two, one for for the shop. A great budget sub, looks and performs great. Just google Klipsch RW-12D sale and you will find the threads. A budget option to look at, and a fine little performer.
  5. Those must be industrials with those handles in them, and the aluminum? If those are the good ones, not sure I want to see what happened to the other $995 pair he's got.
  6. And the seller has a "Top Rated Plus" seller's badge! It is fleece-bay in many more ways than one. Selling an item that will guaranteed dupe a buyer . . . The buyer and seller are both simply to both be avoided--dead gerbils have more ethics than these two .. . Now I am going to have to check not only the drivers in prospective speaker purchases, but now have to find the stamped serials and match them to the stickers on the back! Myself, going to make sure I never buy from this seller Flea100. I am ashamed the seller is in the same state I live in . . . in Cordele, GA. And those stickers will show up soon on a pair of Fortes for sale on the bay. Anybody on the hunt for Fortes on fleece-bay, look for serial 8634322 . . . sure will not be original. And don't you just love the irony of seller's description: "This auction is for a pair of Klipsch Forte speaker paper labels ONLY-from the backs of the cabinets. Comes just as shown in picture(s) unless stated otherwise. If you see something that you feel may be missing a part, something that looks out of place or have any questions please feel free to email us before bidding. Refunds given for gross misrepresentaion only, in the event a refund is needed only the merchandise price can be refunded, eBay shipping insurance only covers merchandise purchase price, they don't give the shipping fee back to us so in turn we don't have it to give to the customer." Rant ended . . . This just hit me wrong.
  7. JutsNTS posted this after yur question: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/175493/2027632.aspx#2027632
  8. I contacted the seller . . . Already sold. She uses the confusing ad headline frequently . . . Has sold numerous pairs of Heresys . . . . Just bait for her ad, because she said she knew exactly what she had having sold numerous pairs of Heresys. Just another flipper trick.
  9. Those are first gen 1979 Heresys Walnot Oil with a few dings and no risers. Serial number on the tag is 92T753. $400 for those, even if they have been recapped (which chances are they have not been by an owner who calls them IIIs and Cornwalss) and all of the drivers, tweets and woofers orking (which they may not be). Meh. Not a price aI would pay quickly unless I just had to have a pair and they were 15 minutes from me and my wife was not asking about whether I got a great value for my $400. Cheaper? Local? I would buy them to match my others.
  10. Only description is "vintage klipsch coming soon". So exciting! (irony intended). Another boring (yawn) fleece-bay sales gimmick.
  11. Hey Budman . . . I do a lot of estate sales. They virtually never negotiate on the first day . . . sometimes will on the last day, but sometimes not on the bigger items. A line forms outside the place early the first day when their is good stuff. In a big crowd, let a bunch in and wait your turn. Will often have a bid box where you drop your bid in on an item . . . If it does not sell on the last day, or someone does not cut a deal the last day in person, they will call the high bidder . . . Never worked out for me. Seems you best route is to decide if you want one for $550 and can you sell the second one for $550, having to buy them both if someone did not stand in line early for them. Hope it works out for you.
  12. Also a Heathkit AJ 43 integrated and a Garrard Lab 80 MkII transcription tt in that sale! Wish it was local to me . . . I would be there to bid for sure. Other than a few typical top stains, I like those La Scalas. Have bought some great stuff at estate sales . . . Hope a forum member picks these up. Thanks for the alert!
  13. Here you go, Russ: http://houston.craigslist.org/ele/3919565786.html. maybe pony express?

    ebay belles

If he gets $3650 for his WO Belles, I may put up mine for sale! Also have an oo pair of Belles missing the stickers on back, so maybe I could get $3500 for those? Lol! Wow! The seller's prices are way over the top! But, like you observed, could be trying to create a false market. I have never bought a speaker off the Bay . . . I limit my purchases on eBay to small stuff. Get all my speakers and big stuff off of CL and trusted forum members. I have gotten a lot of great deals that way, and I prefer buying from knowledgable forum members.
  15. +1 on the expanded search. I have two setups . . . And a Belle center in each. One between the K-horns and the other between La Scalas. Sonic perfection and beautiful. Good luck in your search for either a La Scala or a Belle.
  16. Budman, if that is going between your K-horns, you might want to consider a Belle or to split a pair of a belles with someone . . . Doesn't get much better looking between K-horns. And makes a great TV stand too. All the best with your search!
  17. I got close last year . . . 15 hour round trip (not including two hours at the seller's house) for a pair of rock bottom priced Belles in fantastic shape I saw on CL! I had one day off in the middle of the week to get it done. The seller had 20 calls and a hundred emails during my drive down. We had talked on the phone several times the morning I saw them and then I hooked up the trailer and jumped into my truck. He was knowledgable and had a house full of KGs, Heresies, and Conrnwalls. The wife just did not like the Belles when they moved into their new home. So, they sat is his garage for a year in packing wrap. Outside of a little glue from tape (which came off with lemon oil) and one missing badge (since replaced). Outstanding and beautiful OO Belles, one each doing center channel duty in two different setups.
  18. Anything on the Baby Sophia?

  20. Thanks, Dean, for putting me on the list. I am looking forward to auditioning them!
  21. Alright, Dean, I am ready to give the test run a shot. I have not done so to date. Why not? Well, in the end, aI think I am going to love it and have to cough up the cash x 6! I have 2 pair of vintage K-horns, 2 pair of Belles, and 2 pair of vintage La Scalas. All have the original crossovers in them. Only one pair of each kind has been recapped with Crites kits. I can solder, but that is all. So, I have never nor would ever try to DIY crossovers. My expertise is in other areas. But, I never intend to ever sell any of my Heritage speakers. Almost all of them, except for one pair of Belles have the original AA crossovers (one pair of Belles has the original AB crossovers.). Again, one set of each model has fresh sonicaps, otherwise they are all bone stock. So, does this make me a good candidate for the crossover roadshow? If so, I hope I will hear no sonic difference . . . If it works though, is there a frequent buyer discount for 6 pair of crossovers? []. Billy
