  1. I was concerned about them being over hyped by some people. that all changed when I heard them. I heard Bill's Jub setup powered by Crown XTIs. I was blown away by the sound. Though, his may be set up better than most. I believe Roy had some input in setting Bill's up, especially with the EQ on the XTIs. Having said all of this, I have a limited exposure to non-Klipsch horns... so, take it with a grain of salt. Thanks, Daniel
  2. I finally picked up some more speaker wire today. I have the Lascalas and the Cornwalls running together now in a stereo set up. All I can say is wow! The cornwalls do a really great job a complimenting the Lascalas with a good low end. At the same time, the lascalas still maintain there incredibly clean mids. I'm in heaven now! Now, I am debating a new amp purchase. My amp, which shall remain unamed, badly needs replaced. It is easily the weakest link of the whole setup. I have noticed some of the older Denon 3xxx series AVRs going for good prices. A denon AVR-3806 went for $350 locally a couple days ago.I would like to find a nice amp for around $400-$600. Any input would be much appreciated on this. Thanks, Daniel
  3. I was in there just before thanksgiving this year. The only heritage they had was a set of klipschorns. They sounded great. He guy even tried to sell them to me for $5500 i believe. I just kinda snickered. If I had they kind of money to spend, it would be on Jubs not khorns. I believe it is under different ownership now. I talked to the owner and then the manager/sales guy. I had a great talk with the owner about some of the heritage speakers. The manager/sales guy did not inspire great conversation. I just remember him telling me that he likes the bass cranked up on the khorns because they sound too bright to him.The sales guy really did not have anything to inspiring to say about the older heritage speakers. The last time I was in there was in.... about 2003 or 2004 I believe. That was when my dad bought a RC-7, 4 RS-7s and a Denon 3803 from them. They had quite a few more heritage speakers set up. They also had a B&W demo room set up with some nice McIntosh amps. The last visit was just very disappointing. Daniel
  4. This is a thing that confused many customers when I worked at Circuit City a few years ago. Some customers understood when I explained the difference and some just nodded their heads with blank stare. That links explains it perfectly. Daniel
  5. You don't have to go with new xovers. But, I would atleast put new caps in them. I noticed a big difference with my '72 Verts. The biggest difference was actually better balancing the volume of the two speakers. Before, one speaker was slightly quieter. Additionally, the highs are cleaned up alot. It also made the high end a little less harsh. As far as the CT125, I can't personally give an opinion on that. Daniel
  6. I have them oriented so that the tweeters and mid range are on the outside. I think it gives better imaging. However, it really depends on your room and your taste. Daniel
  7. I'm sure that summer time is the best for most people. Which is unfortunate, because I will most likely be off in the desert somewhere around may or June. Daniel
  8. I would not recommend doing this unless your amp states that it will drive a 16 ohm load. I have never tried it. So, I can't say what the exact result would be. But, I would expect a decrease in quality. The amp will probably have some difficulty driving the speakers due to the large resistance. Someone else on here will have a more technical response for you.
  9. Grats on the Cornwalls! You can't ever go wrong with Cornwalls. Daniel
  10. It is my understanding, that the area of the ports should be similar and therefor the tuning of the box similar. If the '77s are fully veneered on the front, they may be decorator models. I think 1984 is during the time that Klipsch was making some "Cornwall 1.5"s. They are a mix and match of midrange drivers and tweeters from the Cornwall and the Cornwall II. Personally, I would probably lean towards the '77s especially if they were decorators. Daniel
  11. Yes, thats another set of La Scalas snuggled up next to mine! Unfortunately, they won't be staying here. They will be moving to my dad's house just outside of Little Rock in about a month. Though, I intend to make sure they are thoroughly used before that trip. Bill, I though you might get a kick out of seeing the bad woofer. Surprisingly it isn't that badly damaged. The dust cover is off of it, but no damage to the cone. Obviously, the voice coil is open. There just isn't any physical evidence that I can see. Maybe an expert could better diagnose it. I'll attach a pic for you to see it. I'll finish replacing the woofer in the second pair when I find some free time this week. It worked out nicely too. I ended up with 2 k-33-e's and 2 k-33-p's. Also, from looking at the crossover and looking at the crossover on Bob Crite's website. It looks like the networks in the second set are indeed a version of the AL. Daniel
  12. Fortunately, only the one woofer was damaged. I just finished replacing the damaged woofer with a replacement woofer compliments of Bill Hendrix. My wife and I took a trip up to his place today. We both had a great time. He let us listen to his Jubilee set up. The only way to describe my response is.... WOW! I won't even get started on all the great things I have to say about the Jubilees and the way they sound in his theater room because there won't be enough room here to type it all! I originally talked to Bill about getting just 1 replacement k-33-e and I ended up with a little more than that. The attachment my help describe what else I came home with....
  13. Also, the power rating of the lascalas is only 100 rms and 400 watts peak. If i remember correctly, the tweeter with pop will only about 30 watts rms going to it. Someone else by be able to chime in with the exact power ratings of the individual drivers. Daniel
  14. I am going to assume that this is a two channel amp with 200 watts total (100 watts per channel). Assuming the amp will provide a clean 100 watts with no clipping, you have PLENTY of power. Listening to those speakers at 100 watts RMS would only make you go deaf. Daniel
  15. Take this route indeed! Good luck with it! Daniel
  16. Here is a picture of the 100% functional La Scala. It needs some cleaning....
  17. Start bugging him pull them out where you can get to them! He has a couple of great speakers that are unfortunately collecting dust. If you get him motivated to fix them. Send him our way (the klipsch community forums). The majority of people here are more than willing to share any knowledge they have. Daniel
  18. Wow..... just wow. That is a terrible looking mess!!!!! [:'(] If the k-55 and the k-77 are sharing the signal. I would have to say that the k-77 is definitely fried. I would rip it all out and put a AA or A from bob crites in. You really should test the individual drivers as I stated as well as another forum member earlier on in this thread. Just try a AA battery on each driver and see if you can make it crackle by connecting the - lead to the - side of the battery and rubbing the + lead on the + side of the battery. Or better yet, us an ohmmeter or multimeter that can measure resistance. Good luck! Daniel
  19. Hey Guys! I just got back from picking up a set of '76 LS-BBs out of Kansas City, MO. I bought them from a guy named Dave who was sweet to work with. Probably the best seller I've found on craigslist. Anyways, it was about 13 hours total trip there, testing, purchasing, and driving back home to Tinker AFB outside of OKC where I live. One of the bass units was not working when I bought them. So, I picked them up for $400. After testing, I've discovered that the k-33-e woofer is blown. So, long story short. I need some input here. Should I purchase I Klipsch replacement k-33, a Bob Crite k-33--or should I just buy a set of new Crites k-33. I don't like the idea of mismatched woofers. I know that the new Klipsch k-33-e's have different specs the than old k-33-e's. I remember off the top of my head that the FS is different on the new ones. I believe it is approx. 33 instead of 27. Also, I know that Crite's replacement woofer is more similar to the specs. But, is it similar enough? Any input would be MUCH appreciated. Since, I have never heard the new K-33-e's nor Bob Crite's replacements. I would like to do this as cheaply as possible. So, if you guys think there is nothing wrong with the mixing and matching. Please, let me know. Thanks! Daniel
  20. I'm with colter on this one. Find a simple stereo receiver and try the woofers and see if you get good clean sound. Just don't run it long, as your amp may not be rated for 4 ohm operation. Also, do what was suggested above. Test each driver wih an ohm meter if possible. If not, use a small AA battery and rub the wire on the lead and listen for a crackling. The next question is.... where are the original crossovers? Ask your dad about them. If he doesn't have the answer, contact Bob Crites and just order 2xAA xovers. Daniel
  21. Gratz! I was going to make a sly comment about getting Cornwalls instead. But, I suppose its too late. You'll love the Forte IIs! They will definitely have a MUCH better bottom end than the Heresy IIs. Daniel
