  1. Your shop is way too neat and organized. I got to clean mine, when it gets warner. CB
  2. Marshall, from your description of the area you live in, you are head and shoulders over little Sautee Nacoochee up here in the mountains. While I have never had any children, the only thing I can do for you and the others is applaude you for all the devotion and love that go to your offspring, Good luck my friend. CigarBum
  3. Well, what can I say, I'm retired. When people ask me what I do, the response is NOTHING, and I don't start that till noon. CB
  4. In my house: 1974 Khorns (Cherry) w/enclosed backs, 260 Hz wood horns, Crites tweeter and crossovers. DBB, w/ ALK wood horn/ GPA 902-16, Beyma 25 tweeter, Custom crossover 1974 Belles WO, stock (Resting) 1985 Cornwalls Birch, stock (Resting) I am going to be making some changes within the next, I have all this stuff: 225Hz wood horns, 260Hz wood horns,JBL 2482, JBL 2446, JBL 2470, JBL 2404 and waiting for new crossovers. There has to be a good combination in this mess somewhere. Let ya know. CB
  5. They are a good diaphragm, but JBL is real proud of them, I just got a pair for my 2470's. Just for kicks, I got a pair of the cheap ones, not cheap but reasonable and see if there is some, any, or no difference. fWill keep you informed. CB
  6. You have some wonderful speakers, enjoy them. These are my newest, they used to be Cornscalas but you know in our search we have to do better, and I will be making changes in the next few weeks to these, 260HZ (12x24 wooden horn with JBL 2482) and JBL 2404 tweeter, I just wonder how they will sound.
  7. Reminds me of a funny story, a thousand years ago when I was young and stupid I raced a Porsche 911 (IMSA). I just had recently rebuild my engine and I asked the guy who was helping me, what is the break in process for a new engine, his reply, 1st lap.
  8. Just as an interesting side note and from experience. If the glue was any good at all it has penatrated the wood or veneer. If you have ever noticed, if you have been a little sloppy and gotten glue where you don't want it, no matter how you try to remove, you will see where the glue has discolored the wood itself. Depending how good the glue was, sometimes as a little sanding is required or a lot of sanding. I understand your situation, but in all honesty, I'm not sure there is a solution. If you do find the solution please let me know. CigarBum

  10. I purchased from McMasters, ordered one day on my porch the next. I ordered two difference sizes 8-32 x 1.5 (2470) and 10-32 x 2.0 (2482), Alloy zinc, socket head box of 25. Just had to do a little grinding on the smaller ones, screw in drill, small grinding in dremel tool, took about 2 seconds, the large one required no grinding, fit fine. When I get my camera back I'll post some pictures. SHA-10F032Z Lot 90866655 SHA-08C024Z Lot 30968387 CB
  11. Good Link, ordered a bunch from McMasters, right ones I hope. I'll grind off some of the head and be in good shape. Up here in the mountains they just use nails, that's about as fancy as it gets. Thanks guys CB
  12. Does anyone know where I can get some replacement screws for the JBL drivers? I would like to replace them as l someone really messed up the heads up, I have looked on the web but with no success, they have to have a small head as they need to fit in a recessed hole. I believe one is a #8 and the other is #10, these are the screws that hold the back in when you replace diaphragm. Thnaks cb
  13. You have " to lust for equipment" enjoy. CigarBum
  14. Hopefully I'll be in pretty good shape as all divers tested within the specified tolerance, except the 2470 and it will need new diaphragms. Got to get the wood horns complete and the new crossovers, so it may be just a little bit before I can report back. Thanks for all the help guys. CB
  15. With my tin ear, I'm not sure I could hear the difference. From what I have been reading on the web, a lot of folks like the Radian, the price of these things are all over the place, low of $85 ea. to $136 ea. From the reading, the JBL 2470 requires a Radian 1225 replacement diaphragm at 16 ohms. Well the magnet is strong enough to ****** a screwdriver out of my hand. The 2482 will go on a 225HZ wood horn DBB (12x24), the 2446 will go on a 260HZ wood horn Belle (.75x24), 2470 or maybe the 2440 may go on the wood horn in my Khorns, I really wonder how some of the stuff will sound, intend to get crossovers for Khorns and Belles (ALK Universal) I'll keep you tuned in to the progress. CB
  16. Have yoy had and wise cracks about your handle? Well I tested all the drivers and they all did very well except the 2470, no reading on the meter, I guess that means that the diapharams are blown. I will have to try the Radians and see how they do, if not, have to go with the real thing. Your buddy sure has some find looking speakers, real pretty. Been watching ebay and the 2470 are all over the place, as advertized, new diaphram and all $200-300, my offer wasn't that far off, times are bad Thanks for the info. CigarBum
  17. Look what I have found under a cabbage leaf in the back yard. Now I have caught them, what do I do with them. The person I purchased these from did not know a lot about the condition of the drivers. What I have is the following: (2) JBL 2404 Baby Cheeks, (2) JBL 2440, (2) JBL 2470, (2) JBL 2482, (2) JBL 2446. Now the work begins, I would like to refurbish the whole bunch and I have used for most or all of them. About the only thing I know about these drivers is they are supposed to sound real good and they are very heavy. What I would like to determine and do is the following: 1. How do I determine if they work? 2. How do you determine if they have a bad diaphram? 3. I have heard that you should only replace the diaphram with a JBL diaphram, one of these cost more that I paid for all the drivers. What is wrong with all the aftermarket diaphrams, what difference will you hear? If they do have bad diaphrams where is a good place to purchase? 4. Has anyone had any success in the re-finishing of drivers, I know the factory has the baked wrinkle finish, does something come in a spray can that works well. Is there anywhere you can get the id disk that is on the back, a couple are missing? I have searched the forum and can't find any associated post to help and I would like to do the work myself. Your help will be greatly appreciated. CigarBum
  18. What is the preferred type, or is there a perferred type? cb
  19. That thing sounds more Porsch than VW, with a very good rev-limiter cb
  20. Boy, thems some big mothers, can;t wait to hear your review with the drivers and the horns. cb
  21. Is there a performance difference between a 8-ohm and a 16-ohm driver??? cb
  22. Kev, let me know how they sound compared to the high priced spread. My application will be for my DBB with a 225HZ wooden horn on top with Beyma on top. I understand the perfect driver would be the JBL 2482, but can't find any. CB
  23. Seti, what type of speaker are you using the driver in? CB
