  1. The best single ended amp I've had was a Wavelength Gemini PF with cobalt transformers. When running it 45's, this amp just sounded so real that it was scarey. Every instrument had so much weight and air around it. I think that it was the best amp I've owned.
  2. Hey Cornman, Haven't tried them. I've only tried the Airtight ATM300 and have some experience with the Cary 300B Signature. Both were not my cup of tea but I did try to give them a longer than average chance due to their reputation. Most of my experience from Arthur's list is from the preamp and phono cartridges department.
  3. IMO, The man is full of hidden promotions. I've tried a lot of the equipment he recommends there and only liked a very limited few. I've corresponded with him a couple of times and he did use some of my writing regarding phono step ups there. He's quite old these days and I suspect his hearing abilities are not that good anymore so he tends to use other people opinions "his associates" he calls them. There was an interesting thread in Audio Asylum regarding his recommendations on digital gear. I think it was about the Ayre cd player and him promoting Israel Blume of coincident speakers stuff. I'll try to find it.
  4. Apogge Digital's Wide eye cable at about $30 is a real bargain and one of the best I've used.
  5. Gregg, Hope that everything went well and wish Paloma a speedy recovery. All the best, Guy
  6. RGR model 4 (Robert Grodinsky Research) preamp can be usually found for around $250 on ebay. It has all the features you need and it sounds great with Klipsch.
  7. I've used Marantz 8B and model 2 monoblocks with my Khorns ( and 7 and 1's preamps). IMO, They are the best sounding tube amps I've ever heard. Followed by Radford STA-25.
  8. Would be better to try Audiogon or Ebay. I have a pair of Radio Craftsmen C-500A monoblocks at a friend's place in NJ, that I'd like to sell. They were designed by Sid Smith who later joined Marantz and designed the 8 & 8b. Let me know if you might be interested in these instead.
  9. There was a place on the upper east side around 81th st and second Ave. I don't remember the name but I'll try to look for it. The store sells mostly modern gear with just a few vintage pieces that were not cheap. Anything in particular that you might be looking for?
  10. Kev, Enjoy your new beautiful gear. I'm sure it sounds awesome.
  11. Hi Gilbert, Congrats for your new tuner. Great piece. DON'T TOUCH IT!!!!!! Check out the tubes and replace the weak ones if needed. Never had any problem with mine. Guy
  12. TheEvan is referring to a Technics SP10 turntable and not to an ARC SP10 preamp. Anyway, it looks like a switch from a SL1200/1210 would fit in there.
  13. My 2 cents, This is a matter of one dissatisfied customer out of many and it can happen so I am quite disappointed from Dean's arrogant response. From my past experience living in both U.S and Israel, I can say that in most cases, room acoustics is probably very different. Most houses In Israel are built using bricks and concrete and do tend to sound livelier than similarly sized US rooms. I've been using the same pair of speakers with the same equipment, in my NYC apartment and it my Tel Aviv apartment and in both occasions, the system sounded totally different and had to be tweaked in order to sound similar. I'm not saying that Dean's network are no good nor that Prego is right or wrong. Just, that in Prego's own listening environment the speakerss didn't perform as excepted with the different networks. No need to be offensive or defensive. It can happen and that's life. Nothing to do with Israel or Dean losses. Just that simple fact. I remember having complaints over the ALK crossovers sounding thin and shrill in the past. Maybe it was another: they sound good but "Just not in Israel" case, over again. I don't know what happens with our hearing over the years here in Israel. For me, as I recall, the cure was changing to a different type of network (type A)....
  14. No offense, They look quite ordinary to me.

  19. Wayne, I'll be keeping my finger crossed and you are in my thoughts. Be strong and hang in there. Hope to see you back here again soon, in good health, my friend.
  20. Hi, Anyone knows what should be voltage? I'm asking this for a friend who just bought one and wants to check the bias. Thanks.
  21. Marty, I don't think that they need to be re-magnetized. Just hook them up and tell us how they sound. Guy
  22. Get them asap. The 600B drivers are very desirable and should sound pretty nice.
  23. Hi Thebes, You can find some info here http://www.hifilit.com/hifilit/Electro-Voice/Electro-Voice.htm . Afaik, the Altec 600B is a nice 12" fullrange driver.
  24. Congrats to both of you guys. Noah, I'm sure that you'll enjoy this amp. It sounds very sweet and my friend did a great job rebuilding it. Guy
