  1. Used KV2 or KV3 ($100-150), for rear, the KG1s work nice ($100-200) if you want to mount close to a wall as they are sealed enclosures, or any other KG series from the years would work well, too! Any KG speaker would also work for your center assuming you aren't still using a tube TV. All cheap in the used market.
  2. H/K PM645 Vxi. I really like it, and it was $25.
  3. Continue to look and be patient. Something will come up - don't fret about it. Make a list of the speakers you would want and your price ranges for each. When you hit the target, you will be ready to pull the trigger next time.
  4. 80s h/k gear...sexy, simple, black, powerful, and cheap
  5. YES, mount the speakers you have on the sides, up 6-7 feet on the wall, and the fire place. They will reflect sound off your back wall/window a bit for you.
  6. maybe off topic, but now that my gear has gotten better, I can hardly stand listening to the CDs I once used to love from the 80s/90s. Talk about terrible recordings. I don't blame the MP3 revolution, it's the studio mix engineers. I admit, I love rocking out to bands like Van Halen, Queen, Kiss, ZZ top, etc... But I gotta say, those old CDs sound like pure POOP - especially Van Halen. I would gladly pay for remasters of all my old stuff if I knew they would sound good. I'm not finding myself relearning to enjoy music that is recorded well instead of music I truly like to have fun with (:
  7. Bob - nice find! Care to elaborate on your impressions of the Forte II compared to the KLFs you own? I think those would be a solid head to head battle.
  8. Since you live in Minnesota and I reside just 8 miles west of Downtown Minneapolis......... If you want to try out a different pair of speakers that won't cost you anything, I will again send an invitation to you to hear a pair of Khorns with Altec Midrange horns at my place. I also have these in my basement, so It's something that you may want to consider. After decades of shopping systems and speakers, I heard speakers similar to these at a friends place, and I decided to pursue these. That was over 7 years ago and have not thought about replacing these speakers since. I also have 45,2A3 and 300B Welborne SET amps. It would be a good oppurtunity to hear a lot of different amps and Speakers (I have a pair of SIngle driver speakers as well). --- And the Beer is Cold and the wine is chilled! PM sent. Perhaps we can have a little party.
  9. Picked this nice amp up today for $25. Great shape, and super clean. I hooked it up to my KG1s in the office, and WOW! What a great combo. I'm listening to Lyle Lovett right now and am in awe. If you find one of these amps for a good price, I suggest you buy it.
  10. Neither of those look like my KP201 corners. Here is a photo of mine:
  11. The RC3 isn't right for that setup. Look for a KV3 (plenty around in the $100-150 range). If you have room, you could also use a KG 2.2 or 2.5 or 2.2v or 2.5v or even a KV2. All these options will be better than the RC. If you have the space, move the 3.5s to the rear. Do you have a subwoofer?
  12. So your receiver has built in attenuators (adjustable) for each input including the HDMI? That's pretty cool. A nice solution for you in this case!
  13. MY KLF 30s did the same thing. Bottomed out the trim levels. Basically, I had to then use the SPL meter and get the levels to within trim levels (not -12), but still balanced after running audyssey. Doing this means that your reference level will no longer be 75 dB at 00 on the receiver. This also means your Dynamic EQ will no longer work accurately. At least your speakers will be balanced and your room EQ from Audysey setup will still work. http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/152982/1600839.aspx#1600839 See link above for my report.
  14. Many know about the RF7 and how they dip low like that. I've never seen any information on the KLF series, though. Looking at the data from the links, it appears that within the given line, the smaller the speaker (center or rear vs mains), the less likely the impedance dips into the extremes.
  15. Keep your KV3 for those 4.5s Your other options you listed would be going in the wrong direction unless you replaced your mains with reference series.
  16. I found this tool online today: http://www.allegrosound.com/Power_AllegroSound.html I think it is helpful when discussing how much power you really need to drive efficient speakers in your listening arrangement. Do any of you disagree with it? I'm interested in opinions. My HT has me sitting 11 feet from each main speaker. I'm not even going to account for the center or rear channels or room gain here, but with my conservative calculations: 3.5 meters distance 100dB/Watt (KLF 20) Generous Amp headroom (6 dB) With 100 dB listening volume (not counting the LFE) Provides me with only needing about 50 watts to obtain this rather high level of SPL/Volume. Take into consideration that I crossover at 80 Hz and send the low frequencies to my sub, it seems safe to say that my receiver should never have to go over 50 watts and should have plenty of headroom?? Why would I consider a seperate power amp?

    Hello

I'm curious - I have a similar sized room/listening position. How are you crossing over your mains/sub integration? What about the sides/rears crossover setting? If you close them up more and send the low frequencies (80-100Hz) to the sub(s), can't you get a lot more headroom back from your AV receiver?
  18. Are you kidding? I can't imagine a worse application for a WDST speaker. I think you will be far happier with a dedicated center.
  19. Thanks for your reply. Please let me know if you are selling any pro logos. Troy
  20. Seem all the older homes have a huge fireplace right where you would like your big screen. So, I guess you know what my priorities are.
  21. Probably - Audyssey seems to take care of it fairly well. I also have a sub and the mains crossed over at 80hz, so hopefully not too much lost on the 1 lower woofer. the upper woofer, mid and tweet all clear the couch arm. I'd rather have a sectional with chase in that area (no arm), but I have to do with what I have (:
  22. KLF System now photographed...
  23. I think it seems easiest to simply get out your orbital and sand down all the texture really smooth, and then fill in any imperfections with bondo/mud - keep sanding and progressively smoothing. Spray on some build up primer, keep progressively sanding - If you have patience and good sanding/spraying skill go for the the Piano Black. with the rounded corners and such, it would look very elegant. Do the front and rear panels, too. No Grills. You could also do all the above prep/primer/sanding and then hand it off to MACO or some other automotive paint shop for the application of black paint and final rubbing/buffing.
  24. I just found and acquired a nice pair of KP-201s along with the factory Klipsch Tripod Stands to go with them. Overall, the speakers are in good shape with a few rubs, and scuffs here and there. They were hardly used according to the owner, and only roaded a couple times. Can anybody here recommend a good rattle can solution to touch these up with that matches the factory color/sheen? As a note, mine currently have the cloth grill coverings, but are missing the logos. Can anybody help determine the correct style and location of the factory logos on the cloth covered KP-201s? A clear photo would be great. I will also say that I have listened to qutie a few Klipsch speakers in my listening room including all the KG series, Heresy II, Quartet, KLF 30 and KLF 20. I presently am using a nice set of KLF 20 as my main speakers and have a Sub with mains crossed over at 60 HZ. For fun last night, I put the KPs on top of the KLFs, and hooked them up with the sub - no Audyseey. They sounded OK, but they were not nearly as detailed and lively as my KLFs. This is what I remember from when I had a pair of my buddy's mint HIIs over for week to try out. I will say that I REALLY liked my Quartets, tough. I wish I still had my Quartets to do some more direct comparisons to the KPs. Thanks! Troy
