  1. The Bone Collector. That annoying background sound that is constantly there everytime they cut to his apartment, which serves as the command center for the investigation. Finally figured out (via headphones) that it's the sound of dot matrix printers. Urgh! C ------------------ My System
  2. Paging Mr. Boa. Mr. Boa, please pick up the white courtesy phone. You have a call from a Mr. Schmidty. Schmidty - Boa12 owns the been there, done it tee shirt when it comes to this problem. A few bucking magnets and you'll be good to go, but let him give you the details. C ------------------ My System
  3. Hmmm, I sense a new list -- DVD's (or scenes) that could have (or should have) been done better audio wise. Any submissions? Looks like we've all experienced a few of these! C ------------------ My System
  4. UP, Been there. Drove me nuts as well. Watched Ronin on DVD, and while I enjoyed the use of the surrounds and low end bass, the dialog distorts in 1 or 2 places. Had to hook up my headphones directly to the DVD player just to make sure my speakers or other equipment wasn't the culprit, but it was definitely there on the disk. Like you, I tend to notice this on a couple of disks that should know better, but not the blockbusters. Check out The Terminator, Special Edition. Scene when Reese has grabbed the guy's pants in the alley way and the guy starts yelling to the cops -- ouch! No, you are not going crazy, it's really there. 5. I'd be interested as well. This is a good topic...Klipsch and kids. My 6 month old looks like she's going to start crawling any day now. How do I keep her out of my audio equipment and speakers (as well as insure that she doesn't hurt herself)? I'm betting there are some Klipsch parents out there that could offer some friendly advice to a new dad. Thanks, C ------------------ My System
  6. Wasn't that $600 figure during the dotcom era of the Academy?? We all know what's happened to valuations since the bubble burst.... C ------------------ My System
  7. There doesn't even look to be $5 worth of electronic components in that thing. Man, this stuff is more lucrative than the drug business...and you don't get shot. Chickey ------------------ My System
  8. I just noticed your signature. One of our regulars, JHawk92, lives up in your neck of the woods and has been prowling for an Academy as well. Give us Klipschers first shot...The New England Bargain News wouldn't know Klipsch from Cornflakes. C ------------------ My System
  9. You can sell 'em right here! That black Academy will have many interested bidders, myself included. Any digital photos? Colin ------------------ My System
  10. Mobile, I think we either we need to get that "Klipsch and Tubes" section up and running, or at the very least a FAQ section. Question #1 will be the benefits of pairing vintage Klipsch with tube amps. Otherwise, my friend, your typing fingers are going to get very sore answering the same question over, and over, and over... A tube wanabee, Colin (aka Chickey) ------------------ My System
  11. Pair of KG-4's for sale on Audiogon: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?spkrfull&1016909737 or try searching on Ebay. Colin ------------------ My System
  12. Ken - Post your question in the 2 channel forum and you should get a response from the Zen Master of tubes, Mobile Homeless. He'll give you some great insights into the merits of tubes. I'm a solid state guy myself, but there's a lot to be said for the Klipsch and tube amp combo. Good luck, Colin ------------------ My System
  13. Ahhh shucks, Boa...I like being able to get up on my ground loop soapbox every once in a while. Now you spoiled all my fun! Glad to hear there's no big audible difference with and without the HTS. Your components (and you wallet) will thank you. Colin ------------------ My System
  14. My bet (and bias) is that you're just fine. Definitely do the test just for peace of mind, but I'd rather run the risk of an indiscernible (to my ears) change in sound as opposed to the real world risk of having my electronics sacrificed due to random acts of the power company (and real acts of God). Right after that posting in December, I was down at my folks house for Christmas. My old man would never part with the $$ associated with a good surge protector and line conditioner. Anyway, on Christmas night, the power dimmed for a second and then came back up. No one gave it a second thought. A couple of hours later, my wife turned on the TV in their living room, and several moments later, acrid smoke started billowing out of their bookcase! She grabbed our 5 month old and made a dash for the doors, as I carried a hot and smoking 27" TV to the back deck. Diagnosis on the repair ticket from the local shop: "Power surge destroyed power supply, causing catastrophic component failure". BTW, he now has a Panamax powering his NEW TV. Let us know how you make out. Colin ------------------ My System

  16. Rob, You got a deal!! Regards, Colin ------------------ My System
  17. Hmmm, good point Synth, didn't think of that. Wonder if the closing price (since the actual price isn't really known) will influence future Academy sales on Ebay? I noticed the guy who has a Buy It Now of $495 on his single Academy got no bids, and the auction closed. Colin ------------------ My System
  18. Well, well, well....the auction ended early @ $535 for the pair!! Perhaps the dot com era of the Academy has finally run its course, and prices have returned to more rational valuations. Hope you guys were successful netting these beauties. I'm still on the prowl for a black one myself. Chickey (aka Colin) ------------------ My System
  19. Wow, congrats!! I've got a five month old little Klipscher in my corral as well. Nothing better than a little girl! Best, Colin ------------------ My System
  20. Uh-oh, ole Bob has gone marketing on us...say it ain't so! Only kidding, of course. As for the RF7 versus Forte/Chorus debate, I own Chorus II's and couldn't agree more with the likes of Speedbump. Those Chorus' have a dynamic realism to them that is hard to describe, but can easily beappreciated. I listen (at least pre-wife and kid) to a lot of live music, and the Chorus has an uncanny way of sounding true to life. Don't get me wrong. The RF7 is an excellent speaker, truly state of the art. I auditioned them recently and thought that Klipsch had finally plugged the hole in it's product line by addressing the audience that likes tight, "audiophile type" sound. It's a nice speaker. It's just a matter of personal preference - and to me, the lively sound of the Chorus was more to my liking than the detailed sound of the RF7. If you're concerned with the high costs associated with used speakers, just remember that the old Classic/Heritage line are built like tanks. Rap your knuckles on a pair of Forte's or Chorus' (or any of the old line) and you'll *hear* what I mean. In either case, you simply can't go wrong. This is a good problem to have. Listen to 'em both and decide for yourself. Chickey (member of the Brotherhood of Klipsch Classic afficionados) ------------------ My System
  21. T-Man, Nice set-up, very clean. And you've cracked the code on a problem that plagues all us Klipsch afficiandos - the Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF). The simple, discrete, but effective - doily! OK, where's the nearest Linens and Things???? Nice job and nice system. Regards, C ------------------ My System
  22. HornEd, Great idea!!! Consider my prior post my official entry into the contest. Look forward to seeing some of the other entries...knowing the personalities on this board, they're bound to be good. Colin (aka Chickey) ------------------ My System
  23. I'll probably get knocked upside the head for saying this, and with all due respect to my learned namesake (whose posts I thoroughly enjoy reading), not all Carver amps sound bad! Granted, the old Magnetic Field Amps that Colin references like the M1.0t and M1.5 were big old brutes that could never be considered truly musical. But Carver evolved with the times, and right before ole Bob himself left, they produced some nice gear. Carver began to get away from Magnetic Field transformers (notorious for hum, especially when paired with highly sensitive speakers) and other crazy gimmicks, and as a result produced some quality sounding solid state amps. I have Carver TFM 35x's paired with Chorus II's and a KLF-C7 front. Granted, I'll never use a fraction of the 250 WPC these amps are rated at. These particular amps have a conventional design (they're not class D), and even eschewed Carver's Transfer Function Modified circuitry (despite the TFM designation) and as a result sound very musical. They're quiet as a church mouse (no mean feat when paired with speakers rated at 101 dB sensitivity). And as for the sound...well, it's warm, and shudder to say...almost tube-like!! If you don't believe me, ask the guys at Stereophile, who commented on its tube-like sound and put it on their recommended components list circa 1996. It's this tube-like sound quality that attracted me to this particular amp, as opposed to the raw power output. One day, I'm sure I'll graduate into the league of tubes ala Colin and Mobile, but for now, my schedule doesn't permit me to dedicate the time required for the care and feeding of tube amps. One day for sure! Net-net and IMHO, good sound can be had from Carvers, even when matched with our favorite horn-loaded speakers. Consider it tube sound on a budget. 24. I'm just happy that we don't have to endure Georgia Frontiere... Congrats to the Pats and their fans! Chickey ------------------ My System
