  1. Ok, I have been saving some cash for the future home theatre "dream room"..LOL. Buying a few pieces here and there. A few months ago their seemed to always be a few Belle Klipsch speakers on Ebay every month in pairs and singles. Now none, for the last two??? I only need one. It will probably go behind a scrim (cloth like material like at the movie theatre)..... If it is in light Oak, a home run, but not necessary. My thought is this. If all the remaining heritage line suddenly dries up, These things will go through the roof price wise. My Klipschorns, Cornwalls, and Heresy's will be worth a lot. But also very hard to replace in parts and match in sound quality if I do continue this route in the future for purchases in the Klipsch Heritage lineup for my home theatre. While I admire the new ref line. Is my new reality this: Love the Heritage line for the music. For the Home Theatre, it might be better to go with the new REF-7 line up. (Copper cones and all)?
  2. Thanks Mike.... You probably just added several hundred dollars to my bid on these too... Oh well these do look very very nice.
  3. This is a no brainer...K Horns. PS< if you do not like the k horns, they will get a lot more $$ to trade for cheaper la scalas too...
  4. This is the best way to do it if you do not have a rear wall. I have ALWAYS said if you could have the same frequency response and size of speakers all around you, that it sounds the best!! ( with the exception being BOSE...yuck... In a perfect world... an RC7 center, left, right, sides, and rears with a matching subwoofer. You get the idea here, it is unpractical. ( Heaven forbid you wanted everything to be K horns..LOL>.) When it was "just" dolby pro logic, the frequency response didn't matter to the rears... Now with dolby digital II, and thx, dts es, etc etc etc every speaker needs to be able to be full range. My argument is they also need to be the same SPL with say 1 watt too. I think this is the whole idea behind the new reference line by Klipsch. Kudos to the line too. I have also hung the rears like you are asking...It is incredible to hear things that I can only descibe it as airy, clean, and wonderful when set up properly too. Try it first, before someone tells you it is not right.
  5. Interesting you picked this CD.. FYI information I believe it was the FIRST cd ever marketed in the USA. Just food for thought.
  6. Joly hmmmm......Looks like I have seen these guys driving a Ryder truck ,in the parking lot at Walmart, trying to sell me some 900 dollar speakers each for 500 for the pair......LOL>.. NOT Beware of bogus ads like this. They make legit speaker manufacturers and retail outlets look like liars. Besides, who would even have this line in thier store anyhow. I know it is a joke... But in College a friend bought one of these speaker "Deals" thinking he got a great deal... One didn't have the midrange even hooked up, and the speaker cabinets over a 2 month time fell apart, being glued particle board and in the sun they cracked and literally cracked open falling apart in his dorm room. I am amazed things like this survive...
  7. Justin... I copied your link http://www.geocities.com/trustnoho/bose.htm and made a hard copy before it goes away. This should be required reading for anyone with reguard to the REAL truth behind Bose. I know we are all Klipsch fanatics. It is just good to have someone enlighten the futue or present Bose customer with the truth in thier $1,000 dollar plus investments. ( worth $200 if that IMO) I will admit though, a friend did install one of those systems in his SUV... left front, center, right front, two more in the rear and a sub cabinet in the rear too. It Rocks..when loud.. but hey it is like the site said..in a SUV or small test site...( 3 feet or less ) just about anything sounds good loud too.. Just my 2 cents.
  8. If you want a warmer, more musical sound, that still has a LOT of punch also for home theatre... Denon 3802 ROCKS!!!!!! A Happy 3802 user...
  9. OK help me design the optimal size room for the new Ref 7 series and what speakers, Screen- projection TV and how many seats should I build. Has Klipsch ever stated optimal room sizes too???
  10. Look hard at the Denon. It has a warm, and natural sound, and would make the Scala's sing the song of LOVE to your ears!!!
  11. As a Singer / Musician I, too, would have to agree that the La Scala's would NOT be a good choice for control room monitors. They are not made for this purpose. And your idea to FLY them, is even worse because they need to me on the floor or in a corner to really get the bass...Which again does not go low enough to get a good recording/ playback demo. I am a huge klipsch fan. Just the wrong application for these speakers.
  12. I agree, looks like a very bad "east coast" roller rink system... I guess that little johny's rock band didn't make it, so what the heck.. Put it in Grandpa's roller rink.. heheheheheheheheheh
  13. First off let me say I have been a huge supporter of Yamaha for years. I Still own a Yamaho 610 II amp and separate tuner..from God knows how long ago that works and sounds great. ( One of the few purchases as a kid that was the right choice. I saved I am not sure how many months for that one too.) So, that being said... I think the only way to say it is when you listen to electronic music (new age, keys, drums, even some top 40 it is hard to explain, but it sounds harsh or tinty.) I bought the top of the line Yamaha, and still own it, the AV2070. In it's day, it had all the incredible Yamaha rooms..which after a while you might use them every once in a while. Seven speaker surround, and Dolby Pro Logic. ( This was just before Dolby Digital, thx, dts etc etc.) I think they came out with a unit called a DDP-2 processor you could add later but in 6 months on Ebay I can't find one. Although I guess would upgrade it somewhat. I demo'ed both pieces of equipment ( Yamaha vs Denon at the same loudness levels, the same music, and the same speakers.) To me...Just felt warmer and the music separation and feeling was more lifelike. Well, thats my 2 cents. Good luck!!!!
  14. Ok finally switched from Yamaha to Dennon and OMG the sound is warmer and feels great. Home theatre setup: K horns, 2 pairs of kg 1.5's and a kv3 center channel. ( I know, time to upgrade some of these too..LOL.. But a great improvement) And a 51 inch big screen TV. Now at 40 yrs old, can I figure out how to hook everything up. 15. Hmm... How much to pay for K horns, is a question often asked on here. I think if you look at Ebay you will find once in every say 4-6 months someone selling/stealing a pair for under 800.00. I would assume, in these cases, they are not well taken care of, very old, and scratched, and generally sub par. (condition wise) More realistically they go between 1,200 on the low side to 2,600 + - on Ebay quite regularly. If you mean new, as in Bought NEW from a dealer.... Open your wallet, because I, too, bought mine new (never been heard by anyone else but me..LOL..) from my dealer some years ago. This was before Ebay, before most local dealers here didn't carry them anymore. (Because the footprint was too big in their stores.) Some would claim you can't have those big K Horns blowing away the esoteric equipment costing 10's of thousand of dollars more too. Look for a good finish on the wood. Also any info like the serial numbers to determine the year they were made, and of course the most obvious when possible, what do they sound like too? My love affair with the K Horns started when I was 15 years old and finally allowed in the "ADULT's ONLY" section of the big Hi Fi Buys Store. <<You know where they kick you out if you do not look the part, or have enough money, or just plain are not snobby enough to spend time with you. hahahahahaha.>> I vowed by the time I was 30 I would own these. On my 30th birthday it was a reality. So it is good to dream the dreams you have as a kid, and live up to them too. Last but not least, YES they are. With the only caveat being this... they will either be the most incredible speaker you have EVER and I mean EVER heard, or they will be so so. Also, remember that what goes in comes out in these too. Bad recordings will sound terrible. Great ones will blow you away. Get the Dire Straits CD "Brothers In Arms" (the UK version is even better..crank it up and enjoy..) What I am trying to say is this Rock n roll, Jazz, pop, Ska reggae, symphonic really anything that is really well recorded, will sound incredible. Some of the pop stuff really synthed out, made for radio, might not. I could go on and on... Use your own judgment and listen to different stuff and just enjoy em. Hope this helps. 16. I think if your Denon is anything like my 3802 Denon unit, you should have separate amps for each channel so your fine. I believe this is also true in the a and b channels. This info would be in your manual, and the reason Denon is more expensive but that warm great sound should sing in your ears too. Enjoy!!!!
  17. To Fini.... I think the "sweet spot" recommended is perhaps more critical for say listening in a home theater setup where your in maybe a 2-4 seat area... I also feel "generally" that any heritage speaker, situated in a large or even more critical in a smaller room is always better on the floor, and in a corner. That said..... I have also placed them against a wall just straight out or just slightly toed in and ya know, it sounds crazy (I have no real audio graphs to back it up../../) But in a large room it really feels great cranked up this way also. I think it is because in two way stereo it is just great to hear music where things meant go to the left or right speakers or mixed in the center is played back that way too. ( Hearing, "feeling wise" no center speaker in this idea but you get the point.) While I am a Incredible huge Klipsch supporter... Speakers, in general, are where I say let your "own ears" tell you what you like. So enjoy your find, experiment, heck even upgrade cables, or try one of AL K's crossovers if that suits your curiosity for the perfect sound to your own ears. You already have "Ears" for Klipsch. Enjoy!! IndyKlipschFan listens to Klipschorns, Cornwalls, and Heresy Speakers exclusively for the enjoyment of it all. Other Klipsch speakers are throughout his house in diffrent situations, for different purposes. The key is, he enjoys them. He suggests everyone do the same... 18. APC or American Power Conversion, protects my sensitive computer gear as well as servers etc., etc., etc., at work. I think the quality of their products speaks for themselves, so I use them for home audio too. Just my 2 cents, and no I do not work for or get any comissions. LOL
  19. Orian blue book. Any good Hi end Stereo store will let you take a loook at theirs for free. ( They use this for trade ins etc etc. It might also be at the library too. (My info came from from my local stereo stores Orian blue book. They were kind enough to let me copy some prices down in my quest of Klipsch heritage products.) If your planning to sell them, again, look at the format most people use on Ebay.. This includes date made...finish serial numbers of both units, general condition including bad points too ( scratches, things not working etc etc) and you should get a good offer. But I would consider selling them in here < Klipsch bulliten boards> with a post first. You may get more money for your wallet, and still save the hassles sometimes involved with Ebay because we are all, afterall, Klipsch fanatics too.
  20. Where is Ruston?? And what do you think they are worth too? I think if you look at Ebay you will see a wild difference in cost with what you have. The "Blue Book," of course, has these, and all Klipsch speakers, extreemly low, but will at least give you a bottom. Looking at any La Scala's. ( FYI 250-350 depending on finish.) That said... And like any "collectable," the real price is what someone is really willing to pay for it too. What you will find is this first off clean them up very nice and get some pictures done. Post them first on here, (because we are, afterall, all Klipsch lovers and willing to pay a little more for our Klipsch Speakers) If you do not get what you want for them, post them on Ebay. I think you will find at the low end 450- exotic woods/ perfect 10 condition just over $1,000. is not uncommon. Don't forget the serial numbers on the back of the La Scala's they will tell what year finish etc etc yours were made. Should be on the sticker as well as branded on the rear too. Hope this helps!!! 21. ahhhhh crap.... Those were incredible looking.... Someone got a great buy!!!!!!!!!! I feel like crap..
  22. OK. The Intellectually constipated have entered and taken over the room topic.... For many of you that have personally told me this might be a hot topic it is... I will still hide your names and take the hit myself. We found a "goldmine" here.. and the gold is $$$$ you can keep in your own pockets, if you like too. But each to his own too. Just keep the topics to the facts not a personal shot at me or others and I will try and do the same. My Origional thought was: 12 Gauge speaker cable, and properly shielded. My example Woods Wire made in the USA (In this case LOWES, or any Home Depot) provided a BIG savings. IMO... << I guess that is the problem, it is just that, an opinion>> This could save people wiring a room when they need 150 ft in my case or more in speaker wire. Kind of help your fellow "klipsch friends" with a great find. But then I got some responses like this too. "Most would say its your imagination, I know its not. If a system is very revealing and your ears are trained you know what to listen for you will hear what interconnects (and sometimes speaker wire) can do for a good system." Just FYI. I attended and was in the IU School of Music, and have performed vocally for several years. I have performed recordings on CD's that have won Grammy's... (IU SINGING HOOSIERS) Also sang at Carnage Hall...,Sing National Anthems for many national sports and been on TV several times etc., etc., etc. I have also sung commercials both Locally and Nationally, and know a thing or two about the whole recording "process." I am not bragging here. I am sure there are others with LOTS more experience than myself, but the insinuation was I had no music training personally, or that "my ears" didn't know or I didn't know anything about music, tones, or recording. (Well, yes, I do take that personally.) BTW, I listen to all kinds of different music through a pair of Klipsch horns, Cornwalls or Heresy's too. Some good, and yes, some bad music/ recordings too. LOL Take your pick which one "Juanra" you do not like. Hey, get angry at me because I didn't go to Julliard or somewhere else that you think is much much better...LOL ================================= "Nothing good is cheap, and nothing cheap is good!!" Hey, I agree, both a Yugo and a Mercedes are cars. but We both know somehow after sitting in and of course driving them, the Mercedes will last, and be a better longer term vehichle. =================================== Marketing departments publish a lot of comments favorable to 'super wire'. It is their responsibility to increase sales. Dugh...nuff said here.....LOL And the reason for the post idea in the first place. ================================== And then some posts that really made NO SENSE???/ I mean why would you do this anyhow below.......?????? "I then choose the best sounding FM station in my area and switched it to mono." etc etc etc...... What the heck does this prove???? WOW, so we want now dirty unreliable FM radio in MONO to prove points ???? Use a quality recorded CD...then tell me if you heard any difference? This just seemed crazy. ================================= Then we somehow got to the idea of interconnects. BTW I do NOT Skimp here personally. I use good quality Monster cable top of the line inter connects here. I assure you all, it is digital ready and probably a gold plated such and such. But this was a topic about wires TO your speakers. Not inter connects between equipment. Which could be a whole another topic? Like coax cable, or digital optical imputs, or svhs, rca, etc etc to your system. =================================== So again, to those brave souls willing to see a what on any test reveals as true.... 12 gauge is 12 gauge when properly shielded and connected properly to your system, I think this is a done deal. I guess if your still not getting it, maybe me and Klipschhog do need to do the following as he said in an earlier post too..LOL Hey Indy, Why can,t we just go one step further: Lets get everyone on this board to send in $20 bucks to the Klipsch BB fund, go to LOWES or HOME DEPOT, pick up some crazy, contractor grade wire (4-GAUGE should do the trick) wrap it in a nice polyester braid and sell it for @$1500.00 or so a meter! I could get one of my physics professors to give me some good catch phrases (like double-ionization radicals performing electrocundctive stabilization...... you get the picture). Then all we have to do is put an add in stereophile or The Absolute Sound, by the end of a year I guarantee we'd have enough "audiophiles" "convinced" that these were the "most articulate, transparent, blah, blah, blah, cables in existance", that we would be able to purchase everyone on this BB a pair of K-horns. So whadda ya say--you game? tty Soon IndyKlipschFan Trying to "SHOW YOU THE MONEY!!"
  23. LOL I remember those conversations and yes...I agree too... hahahaha Good for you.. I see a man with his priorities in order too. (Great sound... the video picture can come later.) I would love to see and hear a HT setup with Cornwall main speakers, Heresy 1's for sides, behind, and the middle back if your into 7/ 8 channel sound...LOL... probably the rc7's for the mid center speaker... (I believe Klipsch has gotten back to her "roots" with a great sounding speaker <warmer perhaps too> ) If the rc-7 is not a good match when you listen to them, another Heresy for the center speaker. IMO the newer rc-7's copper woofers and all.. sound very very nice. Although, I will hold on to my Klipschorns thank you. Maybe someday in another room I will have the Rc-7's. Klipsch at least made great strides making a total system 9 RF-&') main, sides, fills, etc., etc., all the same tonality wise in this new line! Hats Off!! AS I LOOK DEEP INTO YOUR EYES!!!!!!! Follow the instructions here imediately...hehehehe Enjoy your new system...go buy The 5th Element on DVD. Go 1:26 into the scene where the diva sings,,,crank it up...and experience Nirvana...LOL... Oh yes, the main reason for the post, put the sub at 45HZ. I agree that is a good setting, and large for the main speakers too. This way, you still get rock solid pounding bass... but do not punch air that is not really worthwile. (Soundtrack-tone wise and waste energy trying to find it) The Cornwalls will sing, and with that big 15 inch sub....oh my.....The dvd will rock!!!!! 24. Ok I looked it up and ...much to my surprise... wire gauge (noun) First appeared 1833 1 : a gauge esp. for measuring the diameter of wire or the thickness of sheet metal 2 : any of various systems consisting of a series of standard sizes used in describing the diameter of wire or the thickness of sheet metal ==================================================== Hmmmm seems to me, I followed the lead of other posts and spelled it GUAGE.... My mistake, I should have known it looked funny. I guess this proves my point too, in a way... I saw "Others" spelling it guage so it must be right..or is that write...ok right..LOL.. If we see others using a particular brand of heavy wire, it must be great, right?? This has been a good argument in this forum. I appreciate the feedback. In looking up info on this topic, I tend to agree with most of the posts showing common sense in here. If your looking apples to apples..( Wireing thickness 12 guage vs 12 guage, and if the copper is, I assume, a good grade and connected properly.) <<I must confess, I probably couldn't tell you what a sub par copper would look like, other than lesser quality metals being not "pure mixtures" going in???...>> I think I will stick with the Woods Wire speaker wire 12 GAUGE at 36 cents and use the money saved for other nice tweeks..Or great music, dvd's etc etc. Thanks for reading, and your comments too.
