  1. The last 2 B-Rs I watched, and I'll mention 2 because they were watched on different systems. 1- "Mission Impossible - Fallout" System - Yamaha RX-A860 Monitor - Vizio 70" BR Player - Samsung BR5700 - old and slow to boot up but works fine. R&L Mains Klipsch Heresy (rebuild project - video available on youtube ) R&L - effects - M-L Edge in walls - these were a major disappointment as mains - an expensive mistake) Center - Klipsch RP504-C replaced an inadequate M-L SLM Dayton SW - 10" subwoofer - just replaced the amp Klipsch R100-SW 10" subwoofer (just added) Rears - none the room can't be wired (18' ceiling) and I don't want to go wireless. So far they're not missed Atmos - NO The sound was great, never missed the rear speakers. Video reproduction was fantastic. This is a great film for HT/surround. You are just enveloped in sound & vision. Very enjoyable 2- "Intergalactic" System - Yamaha RX-A1080 Monitor - Sharp BR-Player Sony UBP-X700 (replaced a Samsung BR5700) R&L Mains - Speaker Craft AIM LCR3 - Suprisingly good speaakers as mains Center - Def Tech soundbar - XTR-SSA5 Rears - Def Tech - ProMonitor 800 F&Ront & rear effects - I'm using the Def Tech soundbar - a bit of unconventional wiring SubWoffer - Def Tech SC4000 8" - wireless - apparently mine work, but I may switch to wired. Atmos - NO The glory of Inergalactic's visual and audio effects are unbelievable and this system didn't let me down. If you haven't seen Intergalactic you're missing a fantastic film. Also, if you have not seen it be forwarned the visual easter eggs planted in the movie have been major topics of discussion topics. With homage paid to Kubrik, Rod Serling (Twilight Zone), Sherlock Holmes etc........
  2. I think you'll find any receiver in the range you're looking will be more than adequate. I tend to prefer Yamaha, but that's me.
  3. Last year I upgraded my center to a Klipsch RP450C. I had been using a M-L SLM surface mount as my center and it just couldn't keep up with my Heresys. The RP proved to be a much better choice at getting the sound field corrected. The system needed a center with an enclosure. The M-L SLM had issues with cone crash and could not provide an adequate sound field.
  4. I'll go along with the others suggesting the Fortes. They are a great sounding speaker with good range. A used pair of Forte IIs can be found in the $600-$700 range and you can upgrade the x-overs (Crites) at your leisure. I purchased my Forte IIs back in 1989 and still love them.
  5. We are in the process of purchasing a new home and of course I'll be reinstalling my home theatre in the new house. The area for the setup is an open area. I have access to run wire through the attic or the basement. There is no room for speaker stands or mounting on the wallThe receiver is a Yamaha RX-A1070 so power and speaker options are not a problem.Front main R&L will be Klipsch Forte IIsCenter will be a BA VRC My thoughts are to go with speakers mounted in the ceiling. - 2 front and 4 rear.I have not looked at ceiling speakers in a good many years.I'd love to hear ideas for decent speakers for in-ceiling mountingAlso, will I need a baffle to protect the exposed cones in the atticThanks
  6. I use my Forte II's in a 5.1 AV system. My receiver is a Yamaha RX-A1070 which replaced a 10yr old Yamaha RX-V3800 2 weeks ago. I've loved the sound from these speakers since I got them 30yrs ago, with their new x-overs they should go another 30yrs. I doubt that I'll make it that long
  7. pop the grill. If the speakers mount on the front of the motor board they are II's If they mount on the rear of the motor board they are I's My video will show how they mount in the I's
  8. Bob Crites is in agreement with the above comment from Klipsch. Heresys don't need insulation just a good seal. That's what I did then I did a full rebuild on a pair of Heresys last year
  9. Anything is possible, but my experience has been the opposite. I usually have to go back and tweak the auto setup after the fact, and it doesn't set the x-over points.
  10. The one that looks similar to mine is made in China, mine was definitely Eastern Europe
  11. I just replaced my old receiver with a Yamaha RX-A1070 this week. Rather than use the setup mic I did it all manually, I've had bad experiences with the auto setup. 1- Pull out the manuals for the speakers, or check online for their frequencies response 2- on the receiver, set the speakers to small 3- Adjust the crossover points on the receiver 4- pull out a tape measure and check the distances of the speakers. Set the distances on the receiver. 5- Get your phone and download an SPL app and from your listening position set the speaker levels. That's the way I do it. The sound from my updated system is great hope yours turns out the same
  12. That 2 story ceiling may be an issue for your main speakers. I just did an installation at our winter home and the 18' ceiling was a problem. To keep the wife happy, I too wanted to avoid floor standing speakers and went with M-L Edge in walls. This turned out to be an expensive mistake. These were great sounding at the demo but would overdrive and the speakers bottomed in this room. I added a pair of Heresys and set M-Ls to front effects and the world changed. I also had an issue with the center channel, I started with an M-L SLM for the center and it had the same problem, I switched to a Klipsch RP450C. I needed the bigger box with normal drivers to fill the room. Good luck and think it through
  13. I found a lovely pair on E-bay this winter. The price was reasonable, they were made in Eastern Europe. the logos were metal with tape mounts. Unfortunately, I don't have the link handy, and I didn't see a similar one currently on E-bay. I can locate it when I get back to South Carolina
  14. If the cabinets are in good shape I'd grab them for the money, any parts needed can be gotten from Crites
  15. Last year I did a complete rebuild on some Heresy 1s., and I've been very happy with the results. Below is a video of the build. You can get the risers from Critesspeakers.com. You might want to also consider updating the 30yr old x-overs Good luck and enjoy
  16. Interesting idea that I hadn't thought of, but the problem would be the wire run, there's no way to hide the wire.
  17. Thanks, I was real happy finding those grills.
  18. Last year I posted pics and a video of my Heresy I rebuild. This was a complete rebuild, only the cabinets are original. The drivers, crossovers, and connectors are all new updated versions. Today the LOGO finally arrived. I found a company on EBay that makes repros, $12 shipped. The company is in Kazakhstan and the quality appears to be pretty good. Also if anyone would like me to repost the video of the project just let me know. Also, my apology I took the pic with my phone and it appears that the focus could have been better.
  19. Yesterday I posted a thread on troubleshooting my system.Today, I have a question. My former CENTER channel speaker M-L SLM (surface mount) is still on the wall. I can always sell it but I'm wondering if I can still use it in the system. The Yamaha RX-A 860 allows the reassignment of amplifiers. Can anyone think of a reassignment of amps that would allow this speaker to be used?I'm drawing a blank on any benefit to using the speaker
  20. The more experienced guys may not have a lot of interest in this, but up until a year and a half ago I thought that I was experienced. I did the attached video because I've seen postings here on issues that have been encountered with the auto setup. I doubt that I will ever use an Auto setup program again. The experience I encountered with this system setup convinced me that I can do better manually. The system was professionally installed and they screwed up. The pros evaluated the room and again they advised poorly. The room had issues. I had to keep the wife's decorating in mind. And I made some mistakes along the way. All have now been corrected and the system sounds great. it took a while to get hear but it was a very interesting learning experience. I also would like to thank the guys on the forum who helped steer me to the RP-450C, it turned out to be a great Center Speaker. the System: Vizio 70" 4K UHD TV Fisher MT-273 Turntable with Ortofon M-10 cartridge Yamaha RX-A860 Receiver Front L&R Speakers: Klipsch Heresy I - complete rebuilds Front Effects: Martin-Logan Edge in-wall speakers Center: Klipsch RP-450C SW: Parts Express Titanic #300 10" Here's the video on how I went through the system and below it is an audio demo
  21. Thanks, it's reassuring to know someone else has experienced this issue. As I get older (66), I also have to question my hearing being an issue.
  22. I recently replaced the ML SLM wall mount Center Channel speaker with a Klipsch RP450C in my system. The change was a major improvement in the sound field of the system. I reset the speakers manually and did not use the Yamaha YPAO. I set the receiver crossovers to those specified in the speaker manuals and then adjusted the volume levels using an SPL App on my phone. The results were a significant improvement over the previous setup. I have been happy with the results. BUT, I've noticed on some (not all) surround sound videos (streaming) the voices, specifically, the male voices will sound "grainy" or sort of like old turntable rumble. Sorry, hard to describe but so far that's the best I can come up with. The issue does not happen with all videos 1- I guess it is possible that the problem is more related to the recording then the system. 2- The 450C is a ported, could the port be part of this issue? 3- The 450C is placed 9" from the wall. I currently have a rag stuffed in the port to see if blocking the port will make a difference. So far the sound is still good but I'm not sure yet if it is affecting the problem. Has anyone closed off the port on the 450C? Has anyone lined the interior of the cabinet with Dynamat? Any other ideas?
  23. Do it manually, you're going to have to tweak it anyway. Check the speaker manual and set the receiver low pass filters accordingly. Download an SPL app to your phone, I'm using VU Meter 1.4. Then you can use your phone to set the desired speaker levels.
  24. So far I'm liking the difference. The setup went smoothly. It's so much fun going through the receiver menus looking for the crossover settings etc. I used an SPL phone app to set the speaker volume level. And now I'm making minor adjustments in speaker positions
