  1. Half the enjoyment is cleaning them, fiddling with the stylus, running the static brush over them, etc. For us type-A personalities this is right up our alley. [] Mike
  2. JB, What's the verdict on the Virgil Fox LP? Since you didn't mention which version you had I was curious about that as well. Mike
  3. This post hits the nail on the head! Bravo!! I can tell you on my system I can play records and cd's of the same material, and you will know when a record is being played, and it has nothing to do with clicks and pops, hiss, wow and flutter, or any of the other vinyl maladies. It just sounds a whole heck of a lot better. Vinyl being played in my room just sucks you in. You are compelled to sit down and just listen to it.I have never felt that way when playing cd's. Having said that, I have some fantastic sounding DVD-A's, and I feel compelled to sit and listen to them as well. I wish there was more material I liked in that format but unfortunately there is not. Mike
  4. Rick, I'm curious what your thoughts are on the difference between the two. I own a number of DVD-A and SACD discs, and much prefer the DVD-A discs. I own Gaucho on DVD-A and feel it is a phenomenal recording. I do not have a player of your caliber. I use my Oppo BDP-83SE for both formats, and as mentioned much prefer the DVD-A format. Mike
  5. I have had a mini-pro 2 for about 8 years and i love mine. I have had to replace the felt pads 3 or 4 times over the years but well worth it. I love the convenience of cleaning the whole record at the same time. Mike
  6. I also have a Tuba HTLP (Low Profile) sub that integrates with my modified Khorns, and it totally fills in the bottom end. Mike
  7. Colin, You must come and have a listen now. [] Mike
  8. I own Heresys and Khorns, and have owned Chorus, Chorus II's, Cornwalls and La Scala's. Let me say right here that the La Scala's and Khorns have it all over the other speakers in the midrange using the stock K-400 horn. No comparison really. Much more detailed, clearer, and a huge soundstage in comparison. This is in my room, but I can't imagine it wouldn't be noticeable in every other room on the forum. Mike
  9. How about a nice used vintage integrated, like HH Scott, Eico, Fisher, etc.? They all sound wonderful with Klipsch Heritage speakers. Mike
  10. Yeah, I heard La Scalas for the first time in 1978 while stationed in Germany. I had always wanted a pair and it took me a long time to finally get them (2003), this after already owning Heresy's, Epic CF2's, Chorus, Chorus II's and Cornwall II's. I had the La Scala's for 6 years, and a couple of years ago I got my hands on a relatively cheap pair of Khorns locally. I had been admiring Greg Roberts' work for a long time and wanted to do something special with them. Greg did a fantastic job restoring them, and modding them with Crites woofers, his horns, new drivers and ALK networks. The finished product is truly spectular! They sound amazing and I love them!. Here is a link to them if interested in seeing their transformation - http://www.klipschupgrades.com/flkhorn.shtml Unfortunately these were not bang for the buck, but I can appreciate those that get as much out of their system for a lot less. I'm sure over time you will love yours just as much as I do mine. Good luck with refinishing them and getting them to where you want them. Enjoy the music... Mike
  11. Wow... nice work sticking with them and getting them to sound presentable. Mine are heavily modded and sound unbelievable with my tube gear, but even in stock form with AK-2's they sounded pretty darn good. Welcome to the Forum btw. Mike
  12. The Zu mod is a noticeable improvement in every area. Detail and soundstage especially. You send the cart to them and they will do their thing. One thing to keep in mind is their cartridge has 5 or 6 more grams of mass I think. Major upgrade, and the best $200 you will ever spend in audio. Mike
  13. Allan, Nice to see you posting. I hope things are going well for you. Mike
  14. Ted Nugent - Stranglehold George Harrison - Here Comes The Sun Elton John - Madman Across The Water
  15. Imagine my surprise to see this thread revived. [] Best of luck with yours. They are sweet sounding integrateds when cleaned up. I sure do miss mine. I have actually been looking for another to drive the Hereseys in the garage. I haven't been looking real hard, but if the right one came along I would consider it. Keep us posted. Mike
  16. Me too! Especially the new 45's. Everything just sounds so good now that it's hard for me to play anything from my USAF collection from the 70's (about 500 albums). I have now bought about 200 audiophile pressings over the last 5 years, and they just seem head and shoulders better than the originals. Ymmv.... Mike
  17. Where are you located? We have folks on this board from all over the world. It really helps if you get a chance to listen to different systems, and most folks on this forum are accomodating. Personally, I prefer the Heritage line and have owned most of them over the years (Heresy, Cornwall II, La Scala's and Khorns), and loved them all. I have also owned Chorus and Chorus II speakers, along with some Epic CF-2's. If you're looking for WAF I would consider the Heresy, Quartet, Forte and Chorus speakers. All of these are 3 way speakers, don't have a very large footprint, but deliver a very large soundstage and will provide you with years of happiness. [] Let us know what you end up doing. Mike
  18. Nice! Longwood is right around the corner from me. I don't check CL very often as I'm not really in the market for anything, but you know how that goes. :-) I had a pair of Oiled Oak Cornwall II's in my system for years. I was using them for rears when I had my La Scala's. Since getting the Khorns I replaced them with a matching veneer set of Heresy's. Congrats again! Mike
  19. Those are my old CF-2's, which I bought new in '96 I believe (my first pair of Klipsch speakers). If I recall I paid $1400 for them. I had them as my main speakers until 2002 when I bought some used Chorus's (now owned by clermont cop), at which time I used them as my rears. When I purchased some Chorus II's shortly thereafter I sold them to my brother-in-law. Since then I have also purchased Heresy's (3 pairs), Cornwalls, La Scala's and Khorns. All I have left are the Khorns and a pair of Heresy's, which I now use as my rears in the HT. It's been a fun ride. [] Glad you're enjoying them youth... Mike
  20. Nice post picky! I just realized I went over the 10 year mark. I think I'll raise my glass tonight to the forum. Mike
  21. Well yeah, it is a little crazy. [] I would be curious to know how you ranked them once you've had a chance to listen to all of them. Mike
  22. fini, Just as I listed them. I liked the Zu 103 better than the stock 103R. The Zu 103R is a giant killer and a real bargain for the price, especially when starting with a Comet 103R. I bought a spare from them just in case, and already had Zu modify it. [] For $400 you cannot beat this cartridge. Mike
  23. The 103R in my mind was head and shoulders better than the 103. More open and detailed, with a bigger soundstage. I started with a 103, then went to a 103R, then sent the 103 to Zu to do their magic, and then the 103R for the same. I felt the performance increased with each substitution along the way. YMMV... Mike
  24. I've seen them before, but can you post some more pics of them? Also, these are not Klipsch La Scala's, correct? And last but not least, the price. [] Mike
