  1. I still do a majority of my computer and electronic purchases over the internet. Sometimes I will buy movies and books as well. I almost always buy mother's day gifts from the internet as well (direct ship right to mom). I use B&M for window and comparison shopping for the big ticket items. Must have purchases are always B&M, cuz if it is a must have, I can't wait a week to get it...
  2. Man, I hope Cox takes a page from Time Warner and provides the set top box without charge. The least they could do is start a leasing program with the unit, instead making you pay outright for it. I must admit though, a pure 1080i HDTV picture is _amazing_. I sometimes just sit and watch PBS just so I can enjoy the splendor of the high resolution and detail of the picture. I am experiencing some red push on my Sony set, and am getting it adjusted on Monday.
  3. Where are you located? They have COX Cable HDTV here in Phoenix, AZ, but they require you to buy their $500 set top box. They may consider leasing the box next year. On top of that, they are only offering _two_ local channels over their system, PBS and ABC. Since I have a built in over the air HDTV tuner in my HDTV, I can get a number of channels via my indoor antenna; the investment just isn't worth it for me. Maybe if they lease the box...
  4. I don't know if this counts, but my dad bought a pair of 1971 Heresy's brand new, and has graciously handed them off to me. Born and raised on the Klipsch sound.
  5. just turned 29... But I don't feel a day over 28!
  6. Hey AR, I have that same car (73 Cougar XR7 - white) sitting in my dad's backyard, covered, waiting for me to get time to work on it. Man, that thing is definitely a tank, good thing it has that 351 Windsor in it! I used to be into car audio, but that was in my teenage years, when all I wanted was big time bass. I would have to agree that CC and BB, and other big electronic chains are not the way to go when looking for decent car audio. Another thing to consider is that we all know how 'knowledgable' most of the sales people are for their home audio section, I would assume that the car audio salesmen are of the same caliber. But I am sure there are a few good ones, somewhere...
  7. Very nice. That is what I call excellent customer service! All these stories and posts about ppl and their new SVS... Makes me want to go out and pick one up to replace my KSW-12. Too bad I have to wait...
  8. How big are your hands? I currently have a Pronto TSU2000 and I love the flexibility of the unit. I used to have the older Sony RM-AV2000 and found it to be a little on the large side. I have large hands, but I had problems using it with one hand. My wife on the other hand liked the Sony unit because of the placement of the often used ch+/ch- buttons. She is a major channel surfer and she liked the Sony much more than the Pronto. She could just put the remote down on the couch, and with one finger, just press away at the surfing buttons.
  9. My dad has a pair of Heresy's that were made in the early 70's, and he has used a simple stand the shape of an 'X'. It is about 3 inches high and they are slightly smaller than the base of the speaker so it doesn't jut out anywhere, taking away from the appearance of the speaker. And of course, they sound great!
  10. www.remotecentral.com is a great place to learn about programming your Pronto. I found it much easier to download somebody elses graphical layout, than to make my own. Artistically/creatively challenged I suppose. Both my wife and my 7yr old daughter love the remote, and use it daily without any problems. Program it right, and anybody will be able to pick it up and control your Home Theater without any problems.
  11. The Kirby is just like any other upright that needs to have it's bag changed periodically. The wieght of those things is tremendous, and without the self-propelling feature, you would have an aching back in no time. I have heard good things about the miele vacuum, which unfortunately I heard too late after my wife plunked down too much $$$ on one of those TriStar canister vacs (good product, though).
  12. I purchased a cable from Parts Express. I picked up the 'Dayton 12' Subwoofer Cable', and I am very happy with it. Of course, my ears probably aren't as sensitive as others, so the audible difference between this and others are virtually nil. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=8575270&St=1143&St2=-53207689&St3=-49496960&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=117461&DID=7
  13. Looks sweet OP! I have been looking into getting the Denon 1600 myself, but have yet to decide on a TV. But my toys have to go to the back of the purchasing line. One must appease the significant other first.
  14. My dad has a pair of Heresy's he bought in the early 70's. I was born in 73, so I guess you could say I was born listening to Klipsch. In fact, he still has the pair, and is willing to part with them and give them to me! Can't wait: game room for music with the pair of Heresy; R?-3 all around for the home theater. ------------------ RF-3II RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802 This message has been edited by gooch on 09-13-2002 at 11:06 AM
  15. To enable using the Avia test tones and still adjust the levels, I have found that pressing the 'ENTER/SHIFT/Pause' key on the remote for the 3802 when the remote is controlling the 'AMP' will allow you to cycle through the active speakers, which you can then adjust the levels using the up and down adjustments. Hope this helps. ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802
  16. It looks like all of those BMW accidents were from the BMW drivers running red lights/stop signs. Better make sure than whomever gets those keys knows where the brake pedal is! ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802
  17. You guys are a crack-up! But really, what was the reasoning behind _purchasing_ the XBR 40" as opposed to other direct views or even a projection? ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802
  18. Hey b-man1, what was your reasoning behind picking up the XBR 40"? ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802
  19. Well, the officially supported Xbox online gaming environment is not available yet, but you can still play against other people on the internet using 'Gamespy'. They have an Xbox addon to their software that will allow you to play Halo, and other MP games against other XBox owners. So, you need to have your PC on the same network as your XBox (using your router) Startup Gamespy, find a game and your off to the races! I haven't tried this myself, but I have browsed the XBox room on Gamespy and have seen quite a few matches taking place. -- gooch Oh, as for the Controller S question, I haven't used my controller S yet, but I like the feel of it. I have no problem with the original though. ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802
  20. I currently own an XBox, and I purchased based on the following reasons: - Built in hard drive. No need to buy the extra memory card unless you want to transport your saved games/characters to another machine - Built in networking. No need to buy the extra add-on peripheral for online gaming - 5.1 support. Hardware based 5.1 support to enable developers to bring you the most immersive gaming experience available to the home - 16:9 HDTV support. - Ability to use your own music in supported games. I enjoy Project Gotham Racing much more when I can listen to my own tunes while racking up the Kudos. - Controller. I have large hands, and the XBox controller is perfect. For those with smaller hands, I have the S-Controller. - Graphics Capabilities. The pixel pushing capabilities of the XBox are more impressive than that of the Gamecube and PS2 Sure, Gamecube and PS2 will have some games the the XBox will not have, but a majority of the games will be available on all the platforms, and XBox will have their fair share of exclusives. -- gooch ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802
  21. gooch Got the nickname from my High School days. Too many Mike's to go around, so 'gooch' was extrapolated from my last name, Toguchi. I still go by it on occasion, and my recent HS reunion has brought to my attention that many people still call me by it. It's cool to see where everybody's ID came from. Great thread! ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Denon 3802
  22. Finally! We have moved in and I have been able to setup my system. I wish I could set my Klipsch better, but with how our house is setup, I was limited in what I could do. Right now I have the RS-3's flush mounted to the wall behind the listener, 6 ft up. The couch is about 2 feet away from the wall, making the listener 3 feet away (we have one of those loose large cushion types). I attempted 5 ft up, but I was afraid too many people would knock their head, so I opted for 6, even though the position isn't as optimal. The positioning is wide, since between the speakers are 4 rather large windows. I would say a good 3 - 4 feet on either side of the couch. Now I just need to get a 65" HDTV and upgrade my receiver to properly compliment my Klipsch! ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Sony STR-DE925
  23. I will be able to start experimenting with the speaker placement starting next week, when we get the keys to the house. The room is already pre-wired for the surround system, and my wall jacks are placed 7' up on the wall. I just mail ordered some Acoustic Research Wall Plates. Anybody have any experience with these? -- gooch ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Sony STR-DE925
  24. I printed out some of the threads, and my wife finds them and reads through some of them. "Did you find what you were looking for?", she asks. "I've got some ideas, what do you think of mounting on the ceiling?" "Whatever works, as long as it sounds good." Now that's what I'm talkin about! Man, I love my wife. -- gooch ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Sony STR-DE925 This message has been edited by gooch on 06-19-2001 at 09:46 PM
  25. Jeez, the humidity must be up today... ~ The ceiling mount sounds like an interesting idea. I will have to search the board and see what the thread says. It's true that being 6' up and 2' back, the 60 degree dispersion will be shooting over the listener. Maybe angling them down will work as well. I want it to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible, so it doesn't grate on the wife... -- gooch ------------------ RF-3 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 Sony Trinitron 32" Sony STR-DE925
