  1. Obviously there is detection of audibility, between the 3rd harmonics of Solid State and the even order of Harmonics of tubes. I'm sure designs vary, with the Harmonic orders of Tubes. Transistors have that broken glass, Grainy sound from their odd harmonic orders. Yeah, I read the Article 'Why Tubes sound better' on the Triode Electronics online site. Good article, makes a helluva lotta sense. $700 should get me a full blown Ella, I want to experience the smoothness of the 2nd Harmonic. THANX!
  2. The engineer probably didn't, Erick. They probably just pound the SACD's out, to get them released. THANX!
  3. I threw on 'Never turn your back on a freind' by Budgie. These guys are Hard and Heavy for the time frame. Of course, Metallica Ripped-Off these guys. Excellent Taste in the Ole Heavies, TOM! I think Theears just told ya to put up yer dukes, Mobile. This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-12-2002 at 10:08 PM
  4. I have Kill 'em all with the 3 bonus tracks, nothin' special, better than ride the lighting soundwise, IMO. I definetely agree with your opinion about Slayer, but they been rehashin' for 12 years, and pretty much died when Dave Lombardo left. But I bought the New Slayer anyway, though it is a Brite Bastard. Metallica OTOH, turned their backs on the very thing that made what they are, and they STILL show a lack of creativity. Both these bands Peaked are far as creativity in the Late Eighties, so what's your point? I've listened to the newer Metallica, IMO it's sickening. Respect them for turning their backs on their roots, not me. After the whinnie Sh*t that Lars put Napster through, and you respect them? This clearly shows he is more worried about profit margin than creativity. Retort if you wish. THANX! This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-12-2002 at 09:55 PM
  5. Are you buying the whole building or just the unit you have been renting? I read a earlier post on what the going rate for property is there. Your Bowels will hurt when you do the yearly Taxes on that pad. Gotta be a nice place, though. Now that Monarchy Amp isn't gonna ruin your prejudice towards Solid State, is it? Good luck on the Closing, Kelly. THANX!
  6. ...And Justice for All was the worst though. They turned the bass off completely which resulted in a harsh guitar and artifical drum sound. However James' voice sounded just as good as the Black Album. Hell, I thought the Bass on the Justice album was a overbloated mess, they sounded the same way live that year as well. Overbloated sloppy mess. (Seen 'em the year before outdoors, sounded great!) This is really too bad, because all the good Metallica was BEFORE 'Justice for all'. Anything other Metallica is just bad, whether it sounds great or not. You can go ahead and disagree, but I've been listening to Metallica since 1983 and gave up on them in '90. They turned their backs on their roots, therefore they SUCK! I had Rolling stones 'Satanic majestie's Request' (The Sargent Pepper Ripoff) it sounded pretty good, considering the time frame and the particular album. The 'Tubes' first album. Not good. I have the MFSL remaster, more like the LP. The same goes for 'Young and Rich', though it is better on cd, the LP kicks it's butt. I read somewhere that the first generation redbook cd's of older recordings had the LP RIAA EQ curve in the original cd masterings. It could be why some of these older CD's are so flat and dead. THANX!
  7. Oh I see, you have already delt with it. A service manual would be a nice option. I can see playing with Tubes makes CD player tweaking pretty mundane. but don't give up on it.
  8. Good thing you posted that here, and not the Home Theater Forum. Much agreed, more junk in the single path just makes it more of a PITA. Think about it Mobile, A lot of these guys have more into HT gear than your two channel rig. If you watch DVD 90% of the time, I could understand. My money only dictates two channel, and I am fine, but would like too experience the valve thing, soon.
  9. Henry Kloss and Edgar Villchur created the first acoustic suspension loudspeakers in 1952, the AR-1. the first bookshelfs, I geuss. He did Advent, then Cambridge, Right? My condolences to the man, and I hoped he felt he lived a good life and influenced audio, which he did. I don't want to see a good audio designer go, but like Lynnm posted, his art will live on. I just figured Klipsch's feelings about Lansing commiting suicide would be like mine, a permenent solution for a temporary problem. I'm sure PWK has had his ups, and downs, but he's still hangin'. Never mind... bad post! shame! Sorry 'bout that.
  10. I would say there is a problem, Aiwa Bookshelf's put out more bass? These should have plenty of good bass. Check Phase, like Tom posted, check all the connections between speakers and amp for Bad Connections etc.. Check if all the drivers are working, maybe the woofers gave up. If you can get into the cabinet, check all the internal wire connections for the drivers. The crossovers could be a problem, however unlikely. They might have electrolytic capacitors, and they dry out. (crossover upgrade?) If the crossover's had a problem, one of the driver's will more than likely not work. If they pass all these, then I would suspect the amp and pre, and maybe see if anything is wrong there. You should be pounding out bass, unless that HK amp and pre are really, really low powered. I hope you get them taken care of, they are nice speakers.
  11. Don't give up on that unit, if your vast majority of CD's is redbook then this unit is the best suited. Then you can get a service manual and maybe fix the door/transport problem. I dought if you could get a better player today, unless you jump on the SACD bandwagon, or spend over a grand or more. Sounds like a fun unit to tweak. THANX!
  12. That does kind of suck, I like Carol King. Any old Black Sabbath CD's have cassette quality sound, it's just plain old bad. I guess there is remasters, haven't listened to any. It would be nice, I like the first album.
  13. Now I kinda Hunched you were into to Techno, but Metal? Now I understand, Slayer requires many watts, so does 'OLD'Metallica,SOD,Venom,Testament,Exodus,Savatage,Sepultura,Overkill,Misfits?,Megadeth,CannibalCorpse,TypeO,Pantera,Death,CelticFrost,Fates Warning,OLD,Budgie,King Diamond and Mercyful Fate,Anthrax,Acid Bath,And whatever else that'll get your hair movin'. What kind of Heavy Metal genre are you refering to, Theears? The term kinda stretches wide. THANX!
  14. Two channel is Cool! I don't think you will find 5.1 tube stuff. I like to keep things simple. This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-11-2002 at 11:48 PM
  15. Damn! Where is that Trash Bin?! Those University's are probably Vintage, I have no idea of Value. You could series wire the speaker's from the old reciever,(it's mono). Out hot to the first hot terminal on the speaker, ground terminal from that speaker to the next hot terminal on the next speaker, and then the ground terminal from that speaker to the reciever. One wire connection through the speakers. Two 8ohm speakers in parallel will make 4ohms. Series wiring 8ohm speakers will make it either 8 or 16. Old School Mono.
  16. Lansing whacked himself in the Late forties, I wonder what PWK's opinion of that is. Probably like mine with Kurdt Kobain.
  17. Must have been one damn good movie to piss in a cup.
  18. 1.Tube kit. 2.TT. 3.Sub amp. 4.Tell myself to stop. 5.Give up and do it anyway. THANX!
  19. Thats why people like the 2nd order harmonics of tube amplifiers. I geuss.
  20. Not too fond of shorted loads, mdeneen? It's always nice to have a amp that you can substitute for a welding project. Just put the stick and ground right on those Monster wires.
  21. They sure are some Monster Torroids. I wonder if they source those transformers in Europe, or if they are made in North America. I kind of thought the speakers were Scan Speaks, just had a hunch, I guess. I think you getting just as much of a speaker with the Dynaudio's for a lot less, Am I correct? Feel the Electromagnetic Force, Brother! You should go for a Vintage Analog System, then you would have the HT system, the SS reference system, and a Vintage Analog system with a Turntable. You would be set for life. A system for every mood. THANX! This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-11-2002 at 01:02 AM
  22. John Waterhouse, Hmmmm. Thank you for the reply. Cab plans for Patrician IV?
  23. So he has 3 Khorns, each with the grain pattern of the first letters of his name? THANX!
  24. That's a good one, Colin! LOL!
  25. HII, Post this in the Two-channel Forum. You'll get some opinions and ideas, Trust me.
