  1. You guys remember that article about Bose that Justin posted? I printed it out and gave it to my Foreman where I work, A big BLOWS fan. I hope this will bring some sense to him. THANX!
  2. Thank you for the Reply, Mobile. So you think shipping through Kevin will be cheaper? By the time I can roust up cash, He'll probably have the Kit. Then one of them entry level Music Hall TT's. This sounds Fun!
  3. The guts on that KAV-280 cd player are pretty chunkified. These guys like those Big 'Ol Toriod Transformers. Can't feel the heat without a good overkill power supply. I noticed you can't see the guts of the Class A stuff. What kind of drivers you think they use in their speakers, Theears? THANX!
  4. Good one Tom, LMAO! You can't wear your speakers!
  5. No, I think we all just agree it's ugly.
  6. My buddy has a Espresso maker he'll sell ya for 5 grand, even has 4 heads. That ART DECO look isn't terribly appealing,IMO.
  7. I like the old EV's, the Cabinet work is so cool. Is she upset, because her blanket got wet? That is a neat painting, whose work is it?
  8. Yeah Mobile, I'm curious to these questions as well. Have you found any other information, like white pages or any other Tech info on this amp? I searched the AA boards, didn't come up with anything regarding the Ella. I found the Consonance web site for Bejing, I didn't really dig to much to see if there was Tech info, it didn't look like there was any. I would like to know what brand transformers, and what material is used in them, and how it is Rectified, The parts can be upgraded, I know that. I know you probably have not listened to one, to roll tubes. But what good quality NOS tubes, do you think would fit well with this amp design? I know your busy, and I'll keep digging. THANX!
  9. Night Train and pickeled Eggs. Mmmmmmmmmmm!
  10. I had a old "66 Econoline van, that we cobbled a bunch cheap 'what I could afford first car stereo' gear in. A '86 Sony portable Discman,(my first discovery of "Digital Magic") this needed a pre-amp to get any gain, and I could not afford the EQ's and car Preamp's at this time in "87. Hell, I was homeless half the time. We took some Sanyo powered speakers for discman's, tossed the speakers, and used it for a pre-amp. The high's consisted of Two magnavox midrange horns, Two Radio shack Radial horn tweeters, and a pair of Pioneer 6x9 three-ways,(Free airin' BTW). The low-end was a pair of Kicker C-12's unfortunately in the magnavox enclosure's. This was all hooked up to a couple of rather pathetic Majestic 100 watt amps. No crossover's, except what was provided with the tweeters, we never had a clue about passive networking in those days. The van had no interior, just a empty metal box. Tinitus was a understatement. But what a fun drunk wagon, and when you would walk away about 100 ft from the van to take a piss, it sounded great, just not in the Van. I threw this together to go down to the river, throw open the doors, and entertain the Keg. The Van died and all the gear changed except the subs, and went in a Colt Wagon. I eventually got a Denon ten disk, put the Kicker's in some sealed boxes, got 5inchers for the doors, tweets for the dash, Pryamid junk amps with more power, a active crossover, and a pair Infinity 6inch two-ways. This wagon cranked pretty good, and sounded way better inside the rig, but never could entertain a party like the old Econoline did. We used to cruise the main drag and drown out the just emerging Rapheads with Thrash. I'm sure everybody had a rig like this. Sorry. Long post. THANX!
  11. Nebraska Surplus could be a option. The wire prices seemed pretty good. I guess Silver wire is cool if your Sakumu or Kondo San. I think it's kind of overkill, but not to others
  12. Were the Vertical Cornwall II's mirror image speakers? If they are, how would you know if you didn't end up with two left speakers, or two rights? you could ask the sellers, I guess. If these are mirror image speakers, I would Imagine these would have great seperation and imaging, IMO. The one pair you could buy now for $900 with no pic, has binding posts replaced from the terminal blocks. This is probably OK, but he did internal wiring, which might be a good thing, then it might not be. He did not say anything about crossover mods, which is a good thing. For that kind of money, I would want the speakers as original as possible, and at least have the benefit of doing any sort of mods myself, if even needed. Replacing the terminal blocks, would be a good thing for constant use, and better compatability with spades, banana jacks, etc... THANX!
  13. Hey Vahorns, Daryl's still up there up there rantin' and ravin'! Something about a 7000 horse Vtech Acura Flopper, heh. I threw a couple pieces on the fire for ya!
  14. Al K has brought up the same thing, about subs being next to each to prevent cancellation. Or having them next to the mains.
  15. That's a interesting idea. How much space do you plan on having between the port end of the subs? I wonder if having the ports facing each other would have a cancellation effect? I also wonder if you would notice the Bass up towards the ceiling, where the upsidedown sub would be. I'm not much help, am I?
  16. Say your racing brackets with this car, you move through all the 4 cylinder competition and either win your bracket or move on to the next bracket. Oh No! Your up against V8's now. Now the little sentra's gonna give some V8's a hell of a run to that trap and probably do pretty damn well, it is a 9 second car. But bottom line is, the sentra is gonna get shut down by a V8 eventually. Even if you managed to get in a lower time bracket, where they are giving you handicap, it is still gonna happen. (No offense.) But it sure as hell would be fun to watch, It's nice to read posts about people who race, Period. I like watching those Maniacs on the Drag Harleys. THANX! 17. Yeah. 'Cable' and 'Tweaks' are the one's I'm talking about. AA is a great site, if you can sort the junk from the sense. There is good folks in the other Forums, and the other two as well. I just realized this is a integrated stereo amplifier. It would seem pretty simple for myself to assemble an amp like that. If the boards were already stuffed, that would almost take some of the fun out of it.(To me, anyway.) How is this thing rectified? Solid State? I'm guessing it's using a 6DJ8 or equivelent for input tubes, with the KT-88, or 6550, or KT-100's for output tubes. Now this is the EL-34 equivelent or higher? The case seems like decent thickness sheetmetal. (I know, that's kinda moot.) With the upgrades, your into it about $600 before shipping. Power cord is not included, a few bucks there. I could nickel and dime for those fancy parts, later. I don't have $400,$500 to throw around at the current time, but in a few months I may be really considering this option. Even Ole Thunderboy likes the Billie. THANX!
  18. Well one thing is, you are not limited to the amp provided with the sub. I'm sure the amps provided are more than fine, soundwise. But the sky's the limit for a external amp, it all depends on your budget. You can find a better designed external amp, than most the plate amps. But I am sure there is good plate amps as well. You don't need a 00000000.1% THD amp for subs, just some guts. THANX!
  19. I can't see how taking the same amount of bit information and doubling it would have benefit other than doubling all the artifacts present in the original bit information, Noise, extra harmonics. I can't understand how oversampling would have anything to do with ringing or harshness, or noise reduction. Doesn't error correction play a role in this? I think oversampling stemmed from the first generation DAC's that were noisy, and used oversampling to help filtering?(I'm not sure on this.) THANX!
  20. This post is for no apparent reason. This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-07-2002 at 06:47 PM
  21. It's weird how low frequencies can move around with that amazing width. I was at this Barter Faire thing with my freinds, and we are by our trailer camping. And we hear just the lowest ambient bass pumping right around the trailer. So I go and scope around and find the guy's car were the subs were coming from, the Bass around his car was almost completly gone. But when I walked back 50 yards or so to the trailer. the Bass was loud and ambient again. It was like the frequency was so wide, that it must have been cancelled out around his car or something, but at the campsite it sounded uncancelled. Weird, and I have no idea why. THANX!
