  1. Sounds like the Music Hall would be a good entry level product for a clown like me. I ain't really ready to deal with fancy tonearms, cartridges and the obvious babying, with some of the mentioned TTs, due to the lack of just knowing how. (I'm sure it's not that difficult.) There is a Linn LP-12 on Ebay, BTW. $450, I just don't have that kinda money, at the moment, It looked Cherry, though. Like you wrote, hang back and wait. I'm in no rush. THANX! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  2. What range and weighting did you use on the meter? A or C weighting, on what range? Curious.
  3. Good post Tom. A Forum gets to speak his views. If you have owned Klipsch and Klipsch is somewhat indirectly responsible for the existence of SVS, then that makes SVS a little part of the Klipsch family in a teeny way. I would see Tom as a full fledged member, in this case. And he has the right to voice his opinions as any other board member, unprofessional or not. SVS works over the Internet, You can't call and order, and I don't think they do magazine advertising. So these various Forums on the Net are SVS's bread and butter. And if these Forums frown on Advertising, wouldn't you think that SVS would have addressed the situations accordingly, before they jump on the Forum? Klipsch would have booted Tom long ago, if they felt he was 'selling' over the forums. Bummer Tom, My NAD 2100 power amp has a bad cap. My 16/46's are ornaments until I get a service manual and fix it. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
  4. Howdy! Originally posted by mike stehr: Find a large old growth hardwood tree out in the forrest, at least 42' to 45' complete diameter, cut it down, get the select chunk you need, figure how tall you want the enclosure. Get all the bark, etc.. from the outside of the chunk. Find a BIG lathe, smooth out the outside, then carve out the center, leaving around 4' for thickness of the enclosure, smooth it all out, then cap the ends, should be plenty of wood left. Then use four 18 incher's of whatever preference, break out your favorite speaker design software, install in either end, then port out the other end,(I'm sure it will take more than one port.) Build a pedestal of some sort for the bottom, it will probably need caster wheels. Finish the enclosure with whatever choice, IMO, natural finish with about a million coats of laquer. Would this fly? HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
  5. With the mandatory Rat Shack SPL meter. Nice setup!
  6. Twenty five thousand bucks! OUCH!
  7. Let me know how the T nut thing goes, Mike. I might end up going through the same situation. Mike. THANX!
  8. I dunno man, I'm not into Billy Joel. But I will be checking into Lustmord, sounds interesting! Thanks for the reply!
  9. I don't know what to say, other than turn the sub amp first before the receiver. Hopefully somebody else can understand what's up here.
  10. Thanks for the tips, Audioholic! I'm just searching the waters, to get a feel of the different brands, quality, and prices. The first Audio maniac I ever met was a lady,(Kathy.) This was about '73,'75. I do not remember her rig or gear, though it was nice(I was in grade school.) But I do remember how much she babied that turntable. She hooked my stepbrother to Audio. I don't think she ever bought into digital. THANX!
  11. You wrote you just bought them, did you get a warranty for defects? If the speaker is defective, send it back. If your stuck with it,(No warranty)then tear into the enclosure and police out the problem. Is this vibrating a scrapeing noise? Check the suspicious driver by pushing in the cone gently, and try to notice for scrapes. This would indicate that the voice coil is rubbing the magnet. This would make for sick noises. Don't rule out vibrations from your dwelling.
  12. Hey Synthfreek, can you give me some references for Lustmord? I've heard a pair F15's or 18's or whatever, Take off together with the backburners on, from about 150 yards or so. The low frequencys thumped off my chest, but I didn't feel like shittin' my pants though. The high frequencys just hurt your ears!
  13. Is there a possibility of getting zapped by floating the ground? If you were to touch exposed metal parts of the amplifier? THANX!
  14. Most my friends can give a s**t less about my stereo, So it's all about myself, I am the one that listens to it. Havin' fun too!
  15. Thats what I thought too, John. Yer dealer's tryin' to dog ya, Drooby. Give Klipsch a call or a Email. They ain't gonna rape ya like that dealer. Sounds like the dealers in my town.
  16. Yeah, nothin' like big sound with a 20 inch sony t.v. I hate it when I go to my buddie's, and he's watching DVD on a 61 incher. I have the better audio setup for DVD, and he has the 61 inch t.v. with a rather mediocre audio setup. A DVD with built in decoder is a nice option.
  17. Try to find car speakers with the highest speaker sensitivity. I know one part of the Klipsch sound is high efficiency. I seen a website that sold horn type speakers for cars, Can't remember the website address though. Good luck!
  18. $450 for a Rega p2. Is this a good TT for the buck? THANX!
  19. The Chorus II has at least four and a half inches from the back of the mid magnet to the back of the cabinet.
  20. I would check all the screws on the passive radiator, like Malcolm advises. Maybe replace the screw with a larger one, if the hole is stripped out. Be careful! Don't poke the radiator. (They should have some sort of grill for the radiator,IMO.) The radiator could be buzzing against the cabinet. (I would go ahead and check all the screws on the speaker while your at it. They work their way loose.) Don't feel bad, I have to find new screws for the mid/tweeter and input cup. Can't find the damn things! THANX! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
  21. Thanks for the link there, djk! Bookmarked the Rod Elliot article for later reading. Of course you eliminate the speaker passive x-overs on a active crossover set-up, bi or tri amped. Kinda defeats the purpose otherwise. I just bought the Pomann active crossover kit. I bought it for use with subwoofers though. I would need two more amplifiers to make a 3-way plus 2 subwoofers, bummer. I could go three way with one more amp without subs. You could use the passives on the mid high end, Bandpass that section of the active to whatever frequency required, and get away with two amps, But then that kinda defeats the purpose again. what I was thinking is, use the solid state active crossover on the bass/sub section, then use a active crossover using tubes before a valve power amplifier.(I think Steve Bench has active tube X-over designs/schematics.) Pipe dream now, maybe someday. THANX! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  22. There, that should make this the 100th post on this thread. What's the difference between a SVS Ultra, and a standard SVS? I know drivers for one, but are they any enclosure design differences? Couldn't a guy throw a Ultra driver in a standard SVS enclosure? Or do the Ultra enclosures have beefier end caps? HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
  23. Nice speakers, Tom! (How do they stack up against Cornwall and Khorn, Gimme a break!) THANX! PS, My favorite music video is: "I wanna be sedated" Never mind the last post, this frikkin thing wouldn't reconize my user name! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
