  1. Its also pointless to argue opinions. But it sure is fun to try!
  2. Speaker placement and listening position can have a big impact on bass response.
  3. Sorry to jump in here a few days late, but for what its worth the Forte IIs are great speakers that with minor fixes if needed are a great way to start with Heritage. But horn bass is compelling and is after all what PWK was all about.Welcome to the forum.
  4. Heck, if I had the money I'd purchase some old church, warehouse, cellar, or whatever with excellent acoustics and always record there. Or even an old theater ala Stax.
  5. Isn't amazing how many people go back to Heritage with great satisfaction?
  6. Chris, Would you or anyone know if the mastering for the vinyl version was different from the CD version for Random Access Memories? Also, I downloaded my copy from HDtracks in 88kHz/24bit and I wonder if its more like the album or the CD. Brad
  7. Took a look at the video from above and then saw and played a Daft Punk CD vs Vinyl video that I thought was fascinating. Turns out the engineer Ian had the vinyl rip from a friend and he mentioned that his phono preamp was "toppy". So he goes on to talk about EQ adjustments and how they affect our perceptions. All in all I am afraid this is going to stimulate in me a search for phono nirvana and that could get expensive.
  8. Chris, It looks like you had a big hand in creating that wiki article. Great piece. Reference material for anyone interested.
  9. Welch's poured into Waterford crystal still tastes like grape juice... Dave You and Mark Twain. Thread stealer alert: What about headphones for getting into that space?
  10. Been a month here as well since recieving the kits. I will report on when they come together.
  11. While I am not answering your question, I non the less wonder why buy a tester if you can get them tested by someone who already owns one. That's what I am doing.
  12. That's a relief. I had a cat once that loved to get into dumpsters. I had to effect a rescue once.
  13. My millage varies here. mp3 is one toke over the line. I have a theatre organ recording at that rate that is as good sounding as if it were DSD. I was intrigued, so I made one of Perlman playing a Stradivarius. No good. So, IMHO it is going to depend on the material. Music originating from electric guitars, synths, and such and instruments like a pipe organ generate little in the upper harmonics...but pianos, Strads, and such are totally reliant on them for their signature. CD is about as far as one can go without impacting them...if you don't listen to such things, it doesn't matter. Squeeze 'til it does. Dave Fascinating how many times we have to delve into this subject. Seems there are too many ways to get the end product and a lot of opinions on what works and doesn't. Dave, like you I think I have it figured out. But I'm not talking. Too many ways to be misunderstood. I will say this - Its easy to be satisfied when the music is terrific.
  14. Absolutely not.Dave What a relief. But it does beg the question so we all know. Who is the guy that Dennie referred to since it isn't Justin? That is great to hear. I can't remember the name of the guy, but I'm pretty sure it was on this forum (maybe not) that I heard complaints about a amp builder that would always have problems. Not necessarily with the amps, more with finishing them and staying in contact with customers. I'm glad it's not Justin. It looks like he does great work! Dennie i cannot say enough good things about Justin's service. One has only to remember he is a one man show and when he gets busy things are probably going to take longer.
  15. thanks. EveAnna is a piece of work. I love their devotion to tubes. Hearing about upgrades to RP tables is interesting. I was considering the higher grade power supply but I am unsure of the bang for the buck of that upgrade.
  16. do you then use white noise and how fine do you look at the data?
  17. The Manley is a beast. But it doesn't seem to be as transparent with the soundstage. The Little Ben is very transparent but isn't as clean and crisp as the Stereo 15. I've been told that the slew rate is the factor at play there and single ended amps have lower slew rates. Thats all for now as I am trying to schedule a time with my tech to do some amp testing and ABing. Will report observations on the Manley, Scott 222c, Little Ben and Stereo 15. He is going to bring some really good speakers to test full range with too.

  19. Thanks......you enjoy it tonight and I will call for my concert later. It is a very handsome amp! I didn't wait too long for your call. Mans gotta eat ya know. Thanks
  20. Sounds great. Just wanted to give you a shot at it .
  21. Is this reply to me? Thanks, Dennie We'll it was, I was hoping Dave would jump in here to talk about Justin. He know him very well.
