  1. But seriously, Justin's stuff is serious value.
  2. Oh say it ain't so. At least yours is interested. Mine thinks a boom box is Hifi.
  3. It's amazing to read those gracious words as I listen to Alison Krauss. She is front and center and the rest of the band a step or two back. Wonderfull!!!
  4. My family thinks I have gone off the deep end. I believe I am too old for a mid-life crisis (although I am not low-T). I just bought another tube amplifier. That make five so far. Plus the loaner then its six. OK, OK I know there are few of you that have been through more but for me its a lot. I got a tip a while back from someone on the forum about Justin Weber and his fledgling enterprise making tube amplifiers called ampsandsound. The information from the web site with a testimonial from Dave at Fastlane coupled with reasonable price got me to take the plunge and buy the Stereo 15 an EL84 ultra linear amp. The Manley GY50 was going to have to find another role. Justin took the deposit and offered the use of a single end amp called Little Ben. The Little Ben was amazing. The soundstage and other single ended attributes I have heard about but never experienced, made me wonder if I really wanted the Stereo 15. Justin assured me that based on my conversation with him about my music tastes and listening style the Stereo 15 was still my best choice. After just a couple of weeks waiting time the Stereo 15 arrived today. It looks nice and sounds great. I have only listened to about 20 minutes of EDM, rock and jazz so far and I would say that indeed I do like it better than the Little Ben, especially the rock and EDM. Sometimes I like it on the loud side and the amp seems to work effortlessly so far. Attached are photos of the setup and amp. I do love the glow of tubes
  5. I agree. Case in point - Traffic's "John Barleycorn Must Die" Found a high def download and was excited because I love that album and it still sounds horrible. But I enjoy it anyway. There is a distance from my listening chair to the keyboard and that helps. I have to be motivated to change.
  6. I recently ran across this http://www.hdtracks.com/complete-studio-albums-collection Check out the About This Album tab. It doesn't answer your question but its interesting non the less.
  7. I have an Audio Research SP6b I am looking to sell.
  8. Well duh on me. I was hoping there was a way to confirm the manual method. I am using different amplifiers and was thinking there may be some signal path time differences.
  9. Don't mean to getting you to divulge secrets, but what tool and method did you use to get the time alignment done?
  10. Thanks jwc for sending mark1101. Thanks mark 1101 for sharing specifics. I have no need for this component but I find it interesting. I see in your avatar that you have two k402s so I assume one is the 305. Would you be willing to share how you have the three way crossed over?
  11. The KPT-305 MD referenced on Klipsch's website http://www.klipsch.c...B/details#specs . I would like to understand how an 8 in driver is used on the K402 horn. Anybody got any other photos of the back of the horn?
  12. That observation applies to most of us here. For what its worth I'll throw in my suggestion. Look at Fastlane's horns with new drivers. http://mysite.verizon.net/res12il11/id106.html As was said earlier there are so many things you can do it will make your head spin. Maybe someone would create a concise order of impact to cost list.
  13. Indeed. Even I couldn't handle that kind of mix. But hey that is what smart playlists are for. Pick a genre, focusing on 3 star or higher rated songs that haven't been played in say a week or so. It does require some rating time but I find myself listening to things I forgot about or hadn't listened to in some time.
  14. As I am sure you are aware quiet amps are the key to avoiding noise.
  15. This is what happens when I start trying to be an audiofool. It sounds more realistic fast attacks are just that as well as fast decay. it could be less distortion. Not sure I follow this. I have to rebalance after the switch, then I listen.
  16. Just got my Manley GY50 back from being reset to factory specs. After running down a grounding problem its pushing the Jubilee clone cabs right now. I am really surprised that compared to the Audio by Van Alstine Synergy 250 SS amp its just not as good. The AVA is tighter and faster.
  17. Indeed. But random shuffle is a wonderful thing.
  18. With 12 years to look back I agree.
  19. I felt the same, but because digital music files are digital data, I took the computer plunge only to be better able to manage the data. Then I discovered Pure Music for critical listening. It uses Itunes is the database for music files it plays. As an added benefit Itunes plays well with my Iphone for portability and when not critically listening it sends output to my whole house audio system or any other Apple TV device in the home. Great source and output flexibility. HD for me is anything that is not an MP3. MP3s generally have a reproduction flaw that can irritate my listening enjoyment on a critical listening sound system. Although I have and enjoy MP3s away from critical listening, the added clarity and dynamics of well mastered flac, dsd and Apple lossless music files is noticeable with critical listening. So much so I had to find a quieter amp attached to my tweeter horns for quieter jazz, vocal and classical HD music. For me the computer and sound card became my pre amp so on balance it is even money for me. BTW Pure Vinyl, a companion product to Pure Music, allows me to use the inputs of my sound card to easily play LPs or use any other analogue source. For me a computer front end for my critical listening system gives me great enjoyment at a reasonable price with great flexibility at a reasonable cost.
  20. Then you know that eliminating the hard drive as a current or future culprit is a good idea. However to your point the problem is more likely not the hard drive.
  21. Be gentle here. Opinions based on evidence can be persuasive if you understand the evidence, but ultimately we rationalize our choices and thats ok.
  22. go here and get Spinrite from Gibson Reseach. The instructions are easy and will tell you if your drive is trash and will correct for some flaws that may be causing the problem wthout having to reinstall everything. https://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm
  23. I just installed some 15 yr old MIT interconnects and the difference is stunning. They look great. And sound good too. All I can tell is that beyond basic electrical characteristics the differences are simply subjective. You cannot argue opinions to any resolution.
