  1. I'm glad to read the good response on this SACD. There's a lot of great new stuff available on SACD now. DSOM(hopefully other Floyd stuff to come soon), a couple from Aerosmith and on the mellow end of the spectrum Norah Jones, who's welcome to sit in my lap and sing to me anytime. I'm looking for the day when SACD will be available with car audio systems. That would be seriously sweeeeet!!
  2. Do any of you have the Panasonic DVD-R/RAM Progressive player with the 40Gb hard drive? It also plays CD's I believe(I would hope), but there's no info as to whether it can play MP3s/WMAs. For anyone who has it, have you tried playing MP3s on it from a CD-R?
  3. Have you seen the new and final trailer for Daredevil? It's one of the best new ones. http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/daredevil/ It's Trailer 2.
  4. The new Sony NS-999V(?) is supposed to be awesome, but it is pricey. I've also read positive comments on the Marantz-8200. The latter does SACD multichannel and DVD-A also. The 999 does DVD-V and SACD 5.1, but not DVD-A. Sony has updated their C900 HTIB with a newer version, the C990(?)which now has DVD with Progressive scan along with SACD and a set of speakers.
  5. At CES today, MS announced the final version of Windows Media Player 9 is available for download. They didn't make clear however what the differences are between the Beta, which was released 3-4 months ago and this version.
  6. How many of you have Splinter Cell on XBox? The trailer I've seen looks pretty cool.

    Two Towers

    Sorry about that Kain.
  8. Saw that trailer and NOT impressed. It will pale in comparison to the Jim Cameron flicks. Not the SFX so much as the acting and overall story. I think T3 will suck. And I have my doubts about The Hulk, although I have more confidence in Ang Lee then whoever the director is for T3.

    Two Towers

I saw it last night and I agree. And just think; the inevitable DVD Extended Version will have deleted scenes. :-) I watched FoTR again on DVD just before seeing Towers and got to see all the extra footage in that one, which I think provided even better continuity between the two films. Particularly, Galadriel's gift giving segment. I watched the DVD, last TTT trailer and then saw the movie last night. Another cool thing was that my DVD EE version had a free ticket coupon included, so I got to see Towers for free.
  10. Justin, if you don't get off the PC and get some friggin rest, passing any exam in school will be the least of your worries!! What you're going to do after reading this message is shut down the PC, MAC, whatever, take your meds and go to sleep.
  11. Just bought Foreigner's debut album on DVD-A today. Includes Feels Like The First Time, Cold As Ice & Starrider among others. Pretty good.

You mean the D1H. So far there's the original D1, then D1X and D1H for fast shooting with a large frame buffer, made for news and sports photogs.
  13. Pretty good, but how about getting that Panasonic HS2 DVD-RAM/DVD-R/ drive or whatever it's called that can record from TV & videotape onto DVD and also has a 40GB Hard Drive? You can use the DVD-RAM 5.2 GB discs and also 4.7GB single sided and 9.4GB double sided -R discs. It's supposedly easy to use, and is also Progressive Scan. I think Toshiba will also be out with one like that and using an 80 Gb HD.
  14. You mentioned awhile back you were hoping to get a D1X soon. When you or your dad orders one, make sure he orders an extra EN-4 battery. One already comes with the camera, but you WILL need another one, because the battery life sucks. The first thing to do when you charge both batteries is charge and discharge each one 3 times. It's called conditioning the battery and it increases the capacity. They won't die on you as quickly. You'll need to do that conditioning cycle after about every 20 charges. Keep the batteries out of the camera body in a camera bag or something until just before you start shooting. In cold weather, they will quit sooner, but I've found that you can restore some juice to it by rubbing it in your hands quickly for a couple minutes. Actually, you can do that to some extent regardless of the temperature. Or at least let one "rest" in your bag for a while, then switch to the other one. After the other one runs out of juice minutes or hours later, you switch em out again. A good website about D-SLRs is: www.robgalbraith.com/
  15. I agree with Ahbee78 about Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. My dad was a WWII veteran and his brother died fighting it somewhere in France in September 1944. They were part of a generation that truly did save the world. Now it's the job of a new generation to do the same. They already have my profound respect.

Andrea, Caroline & Sharon. Yummy!! :-) I have the Live at RAH and it's pretty good if you like that blend of traditional Irish & Celtic music mixed with contemporary pop. And they are very nice eye candy to enjoy while listening to it. Overall a talented group. Their brother Jim, the lead guitarist also. The poor guy gets overlooked much of the time in the same way the rest of No Doubt just fade into the background while Gwen enjoys the limelight and our undivided attention. Undivided if you're a guy.
  17. The NV30 has officially been called GeForceFX. http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0'aid,107045,00.asp
  18. And then there's the Marantz 8200 DVD-A&V/SACD/CD with Progressive Scan(of course)and THX Ultra2 certified and the 8300 Receiver with capability for all the above and then some. The DVD player will list for about $1,200 and the receiver for $1,500. The SACD will be multichannel.
  19. Those of you enjoying SW Episode 2 should also watch LOTR: The Fellowship of the Rings next. The new extended version. The four disc set also has a free ticket for The Two Towers. I almost forgot. The new versions have DTS-ES 6.1.
  20. Band of Brothers is excellent too.
  21. Fini: I highly recommend Saving Private Ryan, and even with some strong language and intense battle scenes, I believe it should be required viewing for today's "Generation Whatever". Most of them figure WW2 was just another war their grandparents had to fight that was probably all America's fault. "Globalization this, Imperialist America that, yada yada yada." Not realizing the fact that they have the freedom to spend all their time at the coffee houses and diss all the freedoms and opportunities they take for granted, because someone gave his life on a battlefield or at sea somewhere. Or in the air. SPR is the kind of film that shows the heroism and the sacrifice that it takes to fight evil and win freedom for not only ourselves, but civilization at large. I remember something I read recently that was an open letter from a serviceman today in the military. He said that as they fight to protect our way of life, the one thing they ask of us, the American people, is that we be WORTH the fight. We owe it to them to become the kind of people worth sacrificing lives for. We owe it to the world, our country and our generation.
  22. I don't think the Extended version has the Two Towers trailer, but hey, it does come with a ticket to see the movie! That's even better! :-) I bought it today, but haven't had time to check it out and won't for a few days. How does the video quality of the new version compare to the first one that came out in August? Better, or about the same? I never bought the first version.
  23. Man, I wish I had known that! That's a damn good price!! I got mine at Target for about $15.00 today.

    Gladiator 2

I've read recently that the next Gladiator movie won't be a prequel as originally planned(which would've been a better idea), but a sequel with an as yet undetermined character from several years later. The concept now is to have someone from one of Rome's northern provinces like England, become a resistance fighter against Rome like William Wallace was against the Brits 1,000 years later. In which case, how could it be called "Gladiator" anything?
