  1. The funniest part of you saying you think orchestral music would sound better on KHorns and Rock on RF-7, is your examples. I always think of Pictures at an Exhibition and Fanfare for the Common Man as the Emerson Lake and Palmer versions. That is loud prog rock in my book and would lose sominthin on RF-7s. Not much though. The RF-7 is a great speaker, especially for the footprint.
  2. I guess I was asking more for specific impressions of the SoundField. The Oppo 95 or a Cambridge Audio Universal player are in the future.
  3. How does this CD player sound overall. I am considering it for a two channel system. I use an oppo 83 for the main system (surroud sound music and two channel) but I have an NAD 5340 for two channel system. Will the Soundfield be a step up? I like the idea of tube and solid state to get me started down that path of tubes. I know most will say I should make that journey but, I have been happy with strictly solid state equipment so far. Tube amps will eventually be in my future, but how far, no one knows.
  4. I do like the sound of the M-1.0t. It sounds great. But I prefer the 1.5. I would love to try the 4.0. Now I have a A-753 for three Heresys, and an A-760x which my dad has hooked up to the Chorus IIs. I have not heard it yet, but am excited. I do love the carver-klipsch sound. Most would say harsh, but in the right room, perfect match. I need to get some KLF-20 or 30s and match them with some carver amps to see what i can get out of it.
  5. The reason for an Oppo is the things above a CD player in my opinion. I use the 83 for Blu Ray (Music/concerts mostly) SACD, and DVD-Audio. All in surround sound (sometimes two channel). Along those line though, Yamaha has a few players like the BD-A1010 that do the same things as the Oppo 93 but were not quite as good as the Oppo. That is not saying the yamahas sounded bad. But for keeping the capabilities and moving up to the next level in sound, Cambridge Audio has a few players in your budget. They sound as good if not better than the Oppo 93 (did not compare to the 95 as I have not yet heard one). The Azur 751BD from cambridge is just above your price range MSRP but if you have a dealer around, i am sure they can get it down into your budget. I know Simply Stereo in Hoffman (Chicago) tried to get me to buy one but I fell into a Oppo 83 on the cheap.
  6. I also use and love monoprice cables. My only issue with their cords has been with a 6" male rca to 2 female rca cord. I will just use splitters and cords instead I guess.

I have bought a pair of these for personal use. They sound great. Being able to use to control my phone is an added benefit, but I even use these for my iPod when i listen to that. I am a fan and can recommend them to all. The oval tips help them fit and stay in my ear and block exterior sound. I feel they were a great purchase and I feel good supporting my favorite company.
  8. Yes, the amp and processor would replace the receiver. If you start with a receiver that has preouts, you can move to the separates slowly.
  9. I have moved out of state and have not moved my stereo yet (only have a little sansui six and a pair of heresys with me). I am going back home this weekend, and can let you know what setting I use on my Integra. This is a great question for those of us who want to use those rears with the 5.1 channel.
  10. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I want to be able to enjoy, but I have a feeling some will just be for the historical significance (901).
  11. The Bose 901s I will get. I know they are not really the best soundings, but they are unique and have sentimental value. That got the Idea started. Passing on Maggies for Quad ESLs is an idea. I am open. Large classic Jensen's; what models? I am young and relatively inexperienced with other speaker brands. Especially vintage. All suggestions are welcome. JBL Century L100; I will look into them. I do not know how many I will get to purchase and keep around, but it is a goal of mine to have a good number of pairs of "classic" speakers. These are outside of the Klipsch that I will always have. People could do this with receivers and amps as well. I started another thread about Carver Amps. I am sticking to those mostly. I have a couple NAD amps that will stick around.
  12. KGs and the like speakers could be the end of a KlipschFan. I say that because decent deals on them seem to come up often enough. That if like how I originally bought speakers, could end someone due to the money spent. Any decent deal at good klipsh speakers I jump at. The little KGs seem to be the little guys that can, and the larger ones seem like a poor man's Heritage (that's a compliment). The two ways sound great, especially the ones with Tratix Horns. They could be trouble if you want to slowly work your way up to La Scalas and Khorns though. I could have spent in the thousands on well priced KGs. I finally said no more. Well by no more I meant sell to friends and family at cost. But I really appreciate the KG (and Tangent) lines of speakers. The decent prices have let me convert many people to KlipschFans. And they are a great bang for the buck.
  13. What are the opinions for best Bob Carver or Company amps. I have heard a few, and love most of them. Some have drawbacks but I am still a fan. My experience is not all that vast but there is some. Phase Linear 400: My first experience with Bob Carver. More Power! It is a great amp. Not perfectly quiet, but you can see it as a big step toward what he did later. Carver M-1.5t: So far my favorite amp. I have not put all of these amps on the same speakers with the same sources. But this has been my favorite sound. The 1.5t on Chorus IIs is what I compare everything I hear to. My favorite combo. But right now, the M-1.5ts are hooked up to La Scalas and CornScalas. They sound great. Carver M-1.0t: Great amp with a good sound. These t-modified amps are modified to sound like someone else's amps. I prefered the sound of the 1.5 to the 1.0. But the M-1.0t sounds great. Especially when it was hooked up to some forte's Carver AV-405: 5 channel amp but I only use 3 channels. This amp was built after Bob left Carver. But it follows his previous designs. It has good power. I use it to power a center and surrounds in 7.1. That is three Heresys with 110, 100 and 100 Watts. They sound great. I hooked the three up and just listened to them. 3 channel music is great. Best sound-stage ever. I have heard some other amps: TFM-35, Sunfire Cinema Grand and such. There are plenty of good ones out there. I want to hear the A-753x (3x 250W) and use it to replace the AV-405 that I have. Also, the M-4.0t is high on my list to listen to. It is made to sound just like the Carver's Silver Sevens. And finally, the TFM-75. The TFMs are great amps, share a great deal with the M series. But the 75 has 750 Watts per channel. What kind of sound would that produce from even the most inefficient speaker? Any other suggestions/impressions. Of course I would love to hear Silver Sevens, but I have tried to keep it to ones I might actually be able to purchase sometime.
  14. I know everyone here loves the Klipsch speakers. I will one day jump into Khorns (maybe Jubilees but leaning toward Khorns at this time). Eventually, I want to have multiple other brand of "great speakers". By that I mean good sounding speakers that have a place in history. I am thinking along the lines of Bose 901s, Magneplanar something, Carver Amazings. What else? I am interested in opinions of relatively inexpensive speakers. Inexpensive in the sense of less than La Scalas used.
  15. Klipsch has numerous "systems" that can be purchased and paired with a receiver. Price ranges vary. That is why others asked for the price range. You have 5.1 systems that cost around $500. up to Reference systems that cost $6000. Price has a huge bearing. Icon and Synerfy have a cost in between those prices. Also, you can build the system a few pieces at a time.
  16. I cannot remember the last time I bought something at Best Buy. A friend bought the Klipsch Icon speakers from there I think. Another bought quintets. But I last bought a cd from there based on a gift card almost 2 years ago. I could see it going down. Surprisingly, there is an HH Greg going in right near the Best Buy by me. (In what used to be a Circuit City, and a Comp USA was in the same strip mall). This is in the NW suburbs of Chicago (Bloomingdale area). This store is always slow but I guess they stay in business. I want higher end stores than best buy. They carry Denon dvd players, but you cannot get any of the higher end universal BluRay players; just the lowest end. I understand that they do not stock everything, but that they cannot order the higher end stuff from brands they carry is disappointing. Also, the concert Blu Rays and DVDs are overpriced and have a disappointing selection. The only store I would miss is a Fry's. I fell in love with Fry's based on that they actually carry SACD and DVD Audios. I will pay the high prices for these from time to time. I guess I am lucky that Fry's is so far away. Half Price Books has a local store. Being in the Chicago Area, it is rather large. It actually has SACDs, DVD Audios, DualDiscs, LaserDiscs and great LPs that pass through. I scour it twice a week at least. I am lucky to have this, and would feel lucky with a fry's, but do not feel that way about best buy.
  17. I can not speak high enough of the Oppo Blu Ray players for Audio as well as Video. It has all the capabilities I could want and has great sound.
  18. As the young guy who was drawn in forever, I would recommend the Heresy/Forte type speakers. Tangent 400/500 would fit that bill but should be had for cheaper. IMO, the Reference are not quite up to snuff with the Heritage/Extended Heritage for music. And the Heritage sound great when expanded to multi-channel. The only minor drawback is center channel. You either want another of the same for fronts, a heresy seems to work great as a heritage center, an academy or klf-c7 (both expensive) or you go less timbre matched. But that is an issue that can be tackled later and is worth the headache. I have read in Stereophile, that 3 channel music listening with the Paul Klipsch style center is the best way to listen to music. That was surprising to read in that magazine, but much appreciated.
  19. And 2.37 is "21:9" or 64:27 that the next wave of cinema TVs will be. I think Vizio is working on one at this aspect ratio, or already has one.
  20. I want 2.37:1 or "21:9" (really 64:27). I think this is what you were going with since the modern 2.35:1 is really 2.39:1 or called 2.40:1. I get what the overall point was though. Lets get our televisions on the same page as the theater productions. Projections are really the way to go at this point as well. As the new formats get wider and wider, the displays look smaller. The reason is the "bigness" of the screen usually comes from the height of the picture. As the screens get wider, bigger screens are needed to get the feeling of "big".
  21. I will definitely post pics. I do not know how long I will be near Chicago though. Hopefully a job offer is on the near horizon. They are putting together and offer in the next week or so.
  22. Thats a little high due to the work you would have to put in. They are worth that to part out though I think. Now my type of thing.
  23. I picked up a pair of Tangent 500s a while ago for $100. The cabinets are not up to Klipsch Quality. After the vertical Heresys went so well, I have decided to build new cabinets for the Tangent 500s. It will be with 3/4" oak plywood I am guessing. Tangent 500s Have the same tweeter and woofer as Heresy IIs; the same midrange as the Heressy IIs and forte Is; same 12" passive as forte 1s. Tossing around ideas for this build. Noticing that the Tangent 500 cabinet size is between the forte and the Chorus II; I am wondering if it is optimum size. The ported Tangent 400 is within 5% of the forte size. The difference Tangent 500 and forte is more in the front passive radiator (Tangent) or rear passive radiator (forte). So I am looking for suggestions. The front passive probably means that placement is less sensitive. I am just looking for suggestions. Build the replacements the same size as the current. Or build forte 1 style cabinets? Or any other thoughts.
