  1. Mike, Is this a full on set of 2 way Jubes or just the top horn/driver?
  2. GLWYS. I'll bet the midrange and tweeter upgrades make those sound sweet. Is that the stock grill on the bass horn compartment?
  3. When we were building our house and it wasn't yet 100% buttoned up there was one in a bedroom closet. I thought my wife was going to have stroke when she came upon it. Gave me a chance to be a knight in shinning armor when I removed it to the outdoors. Now she just says "Oh there's another tarantula". Now the Scorpions, that's a completely different story.
  4. My goodness. Once you get over the shock of your first encounter with them, they're pretty cool. Just not in the house, thank you very much.
  5. What planet do you live on? Please take no offense. Stuff gets damaged all the time especially by Fedex and UPS. If it was palletized and delivered by freight your chances are much better. And @ironman send it back, get your dealer involved to the point they don't want to ever hear from you ever again. And start a dispute with the shipping company if you have not already. NEW IS NEW.
  6. Yea I was thinking by @oldtimer's post maybe it's his birth year. But that just makes him a young jitterbug
  7. Had a tarantula in the garage the other night. Scooted him(?) out with a broom and a shovel. He's got a much better chance surviving outside than in my garage.
  8. The K55 driver is threaded and just screws into the K400 horn. There is a gasket between the two that Crites Speakers sells replacements for if yours have deteriorated. I would inspect them and check for any other obstructions between driver and horn. I agree with you OP and JohnA clean everything up and see what you got then. Could a diaphragm weaken with age and (ab)use? Sure why not. Welcome to the forum.
  9. Me too. So that's 3 if you include yourself @Tarheel
  10. @WillyBob So how hot did it get in Arivaca today? It was 115 here today. Jeesh. And a few miles even further inland it was 120-122. Coming home this evening about 9:30 it was all the way down to 98. I don't know the humidity level but it must not be too low for the temp to stay up like that after dark.

    Too much......ah.....dancing?
  12. C'mon guys, spend this guys money
  13. If you go with Xilica, say 3 4080s they will appear as three separate units in the software app(XConsole). You will give each one a unique I.P. address. You will also need an Ethernet switch to connect it all up. Or I suppose each crossover could have a ethernet to wifi dongle hooked up to it, then use your wifi router to talk to them. I do not think the Xilicas are wifi enabled.
  14. @rplace When going from a balanced output to a un balanced input care must be taken to not ground one of the XLR pins IF IT HAS SIGNAL ON IT. Some balanced outputs are impedance balanced only and pin 3 has a ground signal on it, so of course it would be OK to ground that at the next input. In other equipment pins 2 and 3 both have a signal although 180 degrees out of phase. You do not want to ground this actively driven signal. There are exceptions to this of course. Like if the equipment has transformer coupled outputs. Either output from a transformer can be grounded(transformers is awesome) but also expensive for good ones and therefore most equipment does not have them. Also there are other special circuit designs that sense if an output has been grounded and doubles the signal on the other pin. I hope I have explained the concern satisfactorily. Have you obtained a crossover or decided which one you will obtain? When I got my Xilica 4080 I got the schematic for the Analog I/O because I wanted to make sure I was hooking up everything correctly. So I have those schematics if you go with Xilica.
  15. I don't know but he understood my accent
  16. https://www.qacoustics.co.uk/blog/2016/06/08/bi-wiring-speakers-exploration-benefits/ Found the link I was referring to earlier.
  17. But we don't know how long it had been blown, correct?
  18. I have never tried bi wiring believing there would be little if any benefit. And I am just starting to get involved with bi amping. In bi amping the crossover is before the amplifiers and therefore all the reactive components of the crossovers are eliminated. But in bi wiring the speaker crossover is still in the circuit. The connection of the different portions of the crossover is just being moved back to the amp instead of at the speaker. Depending on the length of the speaker wire runs this may have an audibly perceptible effect. In a previous thread a link to an article that explored the effects scientifically was presented. If I can find it I will re post it here. Oh and BTW when I posted that the article may have merit I was scoffed at by the "bi wire is useless" contingent.

Happy Independence Day to all. "We pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor".--- Thomas Jefferson and all the signers of Declaration of Independence. God Bless America
  20. @rplace, Others on the forum will dispute this but I recommend keeping any RCA output to XLR input cables as short as possible. And make sure they are wired properly. Monoprice cables are wired properly:https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=115&cp_id=11509&cs_id=1150902&p_id=4775&seq=1&format=2 Sorry if these are the wrong sex, they sell both Male and Female on the XLR end. And then one needs to be careful when connecting a XLR output to a RCA input, the output circuit topology needs to be understood.
  21. The preamp has tubes in sockets, right? Ya got a schematic, right? Don't do anything stupid with the high voltage, cuz we love you Thebes.
  22. For sure on most digital crossovers/speaker management units this is possible. Certainly on the Xilicas. Once you're in the digital domain why not be able to store and recall multiple settings?
  23. Might not be until winter out here on the rancho
  24. 100% of the cabinets (except the laundry) are cherry. And a lot of our furniture also. So I'm leaning towards cherry. I love natural cherry how it just darkens and mellows with age and UV exposure.
