  1. You won't be disappointed Don't forget to ask the owner if the capacitors have been replaced. It's about time, and something you can do yourself. Yes post photos when you get them. Add a location to your profile.....
  2. Do you know the restaurant Kantjil near the Walled City ? I love that place, and the Reich Museum is fantiasitc When is the florade back in town ?
  3. Height: On top of two end tables, mids at ear level sitting. Mine are 22 in tall Ikea sells some for $9 ea that are perfect in black Angle: In the corners up to 15ft, armed at your fav chair
  4. First speakers I purchased were Heresys, about a year later LaScalas, about a year later, McIntosh instead of a new car. I still have all three for the past 40 years. Heresys are great speakers, no qualifiers. If you can put them on top of two end tables in the corners so that the mid range is at ear level, they will sound best; pointed at your favorite chair. Middle of the room needs a thick rug for damping, and something on the wall behind you for dam ping, like book shelves, a thick curtain or a rug. The rear wall should be dead. An open window when it's nice outside solves lots of problems improving the sound. Performance matters, so specifications matter along with customer reviews. With the Heresys 100 watts is OK, but 50 watts per channel would be fine, you could probably go as low as 20 watts. 16 gauge lamp cord is fine for the speaker wires. Put your money into some good components. If you can get Class A for at least the first 2-3 watts that is highly desirable, or an amp that runs up to 20 watts class A all the time.. Solid State tends to be more stable than tubes, there are good arguments for tubes especially if you get into tube rolling to change the sound Class A SN greater than 105db, 120 is outstanding THD 0.05 or better On the used market I have 5 great 20 year old AB amps and early surround receivers that I paid as little as $15 for that new sold for approx $1,000. Just turn off all the early surround features and you have a very competent AB Integrated Amp or Stereo Receiver with a great tuner section, and good phono section. SN 99- 108 on mine. 70WPC on most of them. Yamaha, Pioneer, Harmon Kardon, Sony......Take the covers off and blow them out with compressed air. Deoxit the controls, clean the connectors on the rear, inspect for brown spots and leaking capacitors. Run it on some inexpensive speakers for a few weeks before attaching to your best. The little Sony doesn't spec out well, is minimalist on the inside, but is a good sounding fun 70wpc stereo with a great tuner. I had to fix a couple of obvious broken solder joints. If you decide to buy an integrated amp etc that is more money take it to a shop and pay them their $50-100 to blow it out and clean it up for you and test it. Good luck you have many happy days ahead. YMMV PS put a location on your profile
  5. If I had a Time Machine I would go back and break the fingers controlling the reverb !
  6. Found the missing track on my hard copy Unfortunately, they toured with Marilyn Manson and veered off in to the goth satanic garbage The pretty reckless, you Taylor Momsen Also off of the first LP Light me Up
  7. Chris, Here is my test list, database is rebuilding so I'm filling in the gaps since it will take hours Had to take a screen shot, Media Player won't allow a copy any longer. Alison Kruase: Now that I found you Johnny Cash: American 3, Solitary man and won't back down Robin Trower: 2 tracks whats lies beneath, wish you were mine Sheryl Crow: anything but down from Globe LP The playlist Soft Rock has some great tracks too
  8. Take the Lead If wall mount put 2 under the tv on slant risers or platform mid horns aimed at ear level for fav chair 2 Heresys can be had for approx $400 total Y cable $5 at the HW store Use an extra amp you have laying around, line level is line level
  9. 5 matching forts would be nice, center would be tough since I like the screen centered at eye level like driving a car Think about a Heresy any vintage in the center, you cant go wrong, you could also use two for the rears. Voice on these is good If you score a pair, you could use two side by side as the center with a Y cable feeding a dedicated amp out of the center pre amp. It would rock. 2 12 in woofers. It's on my list of things to try......someday PS put a location on you Avatar, doesn't have to be too specific
  10. So efficient anything with 20Watts is a lot of power Since you don't need a lot of watts, Class A is attractive Also agree, I have tone controls on my systems, but usually bypassed and using equalizers Schiit has an interesting Class A for $800, they bench test well on all of their products compared to anything at any price They also have a passive volume control you could run with a MC preamp if it's vinyl only for $50 $129 for their MC MM pre amp Or you could pair the Class A with your existing pre amp, lots of possibilities. This what I would try first if you want to go class A Their DACS also get excellent marks, all made in CA Either Mac or Marantz will be a good solid product if you go that way. Yamaha also has some great current Integrated Amps for 2K-5K YMMV
  11. Are you looking for 3ch across the front ? 5.1 ?
  12. Some more ear candy...... Hardy You don't have to speak French to understand her. 1973 ish Message personnel (Remasterisé en 2013) · Françoise Hardy When you join the Foreign legion you get: French Flag, copy of this song, and her photo Baby Hardy 1960s
  13. I bet I could sell at least $100K per event Presentations with Demos Could probably skip the strippers to save money I'll have to find the list in my pc, or scan my paper one Have a storm coming in I need to deal with. Really pleasant LP if you can stream HQ IMHO She is a Big Deal, Danish Agnes Obel Citizen of Glass A little live Ear Candy, Paris
  14. Poe on this track completely disappears on lots of "high end" speakers, unintelligible on others in showrooms.... Few more test tracks I use One minute into Skylark I have decided if I want to listen any further Noemie Wolfs with square wave generator Nicks with square wave generator quality demo
  15. MEH ? Would love to hear a pair If I was running their MKTG, I would hit 15-20 hotels all over the US, and rent good size space to set up gear for demos and charge a nominal fee like $20 to get in inc some bottled water and snacks or sandwiches etc. Have the local dealers there to help and write orders and allocate via zip code unless customer objects. Would invite critics to attend if they are friendly. Maybe one room ea for each speaker type AB switch for tubes and SS 5 rooms, 2 amps ea, TT, CD player and PC ea, let customers bring their own music, some will be crap... but such is life I would feature the New Classics aka the Heritage line updated. Then take it on the road world wide aka Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Tokyo, London, Paris, Milan, Rome, Berlin and Munich maybe Hamburg etc........Miami covers a lot of the Caribbean and SA One time visiting my mother, she told me my sister had a $4,000 purse delivered to my mother's house ahead of her visit between cities over the weekend. I asked my mother what she thought of the purse, "she paid $3,800 too much"
  16. Theaters come in all shapes and sizes Thinking in terms of small, medium and large.....homes fall into the speakers for small theaters No corners required Mid range compression driver may be different than below Home version is dressed up as furniture, and 2 way single amp I'm guessing 10ft away is sufficient for listening xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx KPT-Jubilee/535-B 3-WAY FULLY HORN LOADED SYSTEM FOR MEDIUM TO LARGE AUDITORIUMS With auditorium space at a premium the Jubilee™ low-frequency device with its 24-inch depth is the ultimate space-saving solution. 17. I have sampled lots of speakers and gear at Axpona, at least 3 times Vendors are kind enough to play a few tunes off my CD More than one asked if they could rip my entire DC demo after I was done I have not found any replacement for female vocal better than my 1980 LaScalas Maybe someday will sample some Jubes A lot of gear sounds great, rooms are not perfect but neither are mine When I get home and turn on my system, I don't feel motivated to replace it.
  18. I don't like to use the term High End Audio, so lets say quality Audio that is measurable. As you increase price your potential customer base drops off rapidly in consumer electronics, same is true in industrial electronics, so price matters on the supply demand curves. Consumer electronics are also highly elastic with lots of substitutes, as many failed companies have learned. SONY the dominating Tube TV company was completely vaporized by Plasma and LCD, it happened in 2 years. For me the K-Horns are less desirable than the LaScalas because of placement, height of the mid horn when sitting and worse driver alignment the Jube solution for alignment is a DSP, introducing quantization error, as opposed to a 7ft long mid horn and passive 2 way crossover. Engineering trade offs The Jube is more of a LaScala 2 IMHO, no corner required....
  19. The difference between PWK and a lot of the other guys, is PWK understood declining marginal returns. He was unwilling to double the price of his product for the last.5%, which most who can afford McIntosch + Klipsch stopped hearing above 17Khz some years earlier. Hopefully Voxx won't depart from their customer base with a product almost no one can afford.LaScalas and K-Horns were achievable for the middle class. I haven't looked at Jub pricing, but the design should be deliverable at $18-20K a pair, up-charge for exotics in the wood as customs. Wood-mdf cabinet $400 BOM max, fiberglass horn est $200 ea, exotic compression driver $1000 ea.? 15in Woofer cast $250 ? BOM $1,850 ea parts. 10 hours labor fully loaded = $1,000 total = $2,850 ea + veneer basic $200 = $3,050 ea. Cost of dsp box/crossover unknown less than $500? Est $3,550 complete ea.......
  20. After years of the Heritage products circling the airport on maintenance mode Someone at Voxx decided to invest in freshening up the designs, and doing some marketing.. Both have paid off in spades. Every Talking Head Audio reviewer wets themselves on camera once they get their sample Fortes, LaScalas and Heresys, after years of convincing themselves that Monkey Coffins get the job done, they don't. Without seeing the sales by product, which we won't, it's hard to know where the money is coming from. But the glowing reviews for the Heritage line must have a Halo effect on the other lines. Lifelike human voice is the difference IMHO, even on my B3s. https://investors.voxxintl.com/news-releases/news-release-details/voxx-international-corporation-reports-its-fiscal-2021-third
  21. Do the signal amplifiers add noise or distortion ? There are simple solutions for boosting the level of FM signals, such as the aerial amplifier. This amplifier has negligible noise at 1.6 dB and a gain of 22 dB. Since the gain is more than three times higher than the noise level, the amplifier is able to keep the degradation of the signal to noise ratio at minimum proportions. https://makingcircuits.com/blog/fm-signal-booster-circuit/
