  1. Interesting. Looks like CD horn response to me.
  2. Pete-----You related to an old time Boilermaker from the East Side called South Chicago Pete?
  3. "The Wilson Audio speaker lines" Wilson is a con man and the last way to make a point with me is to point to Wilson.
  4. Too much interest in the sexual act makes men subservient to women making them paradoxically unmanly. Real men hold back their interest in sex or have sex with other men. As the pitcher of course.
  5. "better than a $20 Power strip for if no other reason, Monster Warrents like $400,000 in connected electronics If a power surge frys anything.." My house insurance will cover such problems. "But a $20 power Strip really offers nothing more than multiple Plug-ins." Which is just what I need, perfect. " It doesn't filter power" My gear is built with proper power supplies. In any event there is no audio theory or product so cockamamie that some some "audiophile" won't claim it makes an audible improvement.
  6. According to Berenek's Law damping a horn helps even if it really doesn't. ;-)
  7. " I might give the 1.5 to 2" a try but the discontinuity at the throat wouldn't be optimal." Yeah, but since the discontinuity is small and a step up rather than a step down it might be inaudible. Anyway they're cheap. Now you could take a burr-grinder to the exits of the 288s and open them up that 1/10th of an inch.......nah.
  8. Here you go Shawn, that 1.5" to 2" would probably do the trick. http://www.loudspeakersplus.com/html/paudioadapters.html
  9. Shawn---Jammin Jersey shows they have the adaptors, JBL models, but the price is dear, $75 each. I think PAudio might make an adaptor.
  10. Interesting. I wonder how the 510 manages to plumb so deep? I assume it loses pattern control at the lower end of it's range. Can't find 1.4" to 2" adaptors?
  11. PSANT-----Well it's only easy for somebody who knows the pictures, which you do.
  12. Yup, that's it. The scene in Albert Hall.
  13. The guy's a jerk-off. He can't even insult O'Donnel with any wit, has to resort to mere schoolyard insults like "fat" and "ugly". He's an immoral philanderer and a perfect symbol of American decadence. Same goes for that little Kentucky strumpet, let her keep her "crown". Yeah, he's crowning her alright, all he sees is the top of her head. Guy was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.
  14. Dylan, ole Bob reeled you in like a big fat channel cat. Or a walleye if you prefer. ;-)
  15. Good for you Psant. I get the impression that most around here have no interest in movies without explosions, carchases, spaceships or wizards. ;-)
  16. The result would be whatever a judge decides it would be. That's what lawyers and courts are for, especially in civil matters. See what Posner thinks.
  17. We did real trees when the kids were growing up, that's fun. Now that the kids are gone we do a couple of fake trees, it's easier.
  18. If using tweeters the 808 type Symbiotic diaphragms are fine, preferred actually if driving below 500hz. Radian replacement diaphragms also use a mylar suspension and work well down low, I used to run 902s with Radians at 500hz-first order and no rattling. Whereas JBL 1" drivers run 500hz-first order rattled like a 409 on regular gas.
  19. Cabinets have extra bracing and expanded foam behind wood horn flares.
  20. Old style vertical vent 825 cabinets retuned with removable tube vents. 418-8H woofers, 808-8s on 511Bs, 809 800hz crossovers. $500 or $650 with new GPA aluminum diaphragms which make the 808s into 802s. Pick up in Lexington.
  21. Steve----well those big boys, the A7s have to go. First guy with $500 can have them. I like Lexington. I'll call next time I'm up in Chicago, we'll go visit a buddy of mine who lives in an old firehouse at Western and Irving and uses a pair of Altec A4s. And we'll go to Manny's.
  22. Steve---I see, you can adjust them. That's good because you'll probably need to. I had to go to the hardware store and get extra length brackets in order to get my A7 horns tilted down enough to focus at 10 feet.
  23. Indy Page 394 of "Sweet Soul Music---Rhythm and Blues and the Southern Dream of Freedom" by Peter Guralnick "Estelle Axton alone salvaged some form of triumph from the wreckage. In 1976, with the help of Bobby Manuel and Rick Dees, she recorded a novelty tune called "Disco Duck" at her tiny Fre-Tone studio..........." Page 174 of "Soulsville USA---The Story of Stax Records" by Rob Bowman "Once able to get back in the record business she assumed control of Fretone and in the fall of 1976 had a massive hit in "Disco Duck" with Memphis deejay Rick Dees".
  24. "Transients seemed dulled, and there seemed to be a distinct coloration not there before." I wonder if you heard what you expected to hear. You know, like people who think silver wire sounds "bright".
