  1. While I generally agree with the statement that wire is wire I have no problem with the high end wire makers pushing their product. This is America after all and the free market system rules here. If someone has an extra $10K lying around and they want to spend it on wires why should we stop them? You and I know that it may not make a difference but why should we care? It's not our money being spent. Some people like silk sheets and some people like cotton sheets. Big deal... Laters, Jeff
  2. Shawn - I agree with ya man just trying to flesh out your answer a bit for other folks reading the thread. Rich - As with any projector I would buy the projector first and play around with it for a month or so before you order a screen. Shoot it on a blank wall and play around with the maximum size. What I did to figure it all out was aimed the projector at my wall and then put in a 2.35 movie (I used Star Wars but feel free to pick any 2.35 movie ). I then put the zoom at maximum and physically moved the projector to create the 2.35 image size I wanted. I put in a 1.78 movie and de-zoomed the projector and played the movie for a bit. I then marked the corners and the center of the edges with that blue painters tape. I went back to the 2.35 movie and played around with TheaterTek to get the image to line up with the top and bottom edge tape marks from the 1.78 movie. I saved this as a 2.35 aspect ratio. I lived with this setup for several weeks watching lots of movies and making adjustments to the tape marks etc. Once I had a good idea of the size I was comfortable with I mounted the projector and went through the same routine again. After a couple of more weeks I was happy and I simply had to measure the tape marks to figure out what screen size to order. The AE700 should have more than enough zoom and lens shift to make this easy. I would go for it. Projectors will only improve and who knows some day you may be able to buy a 2.35 native projector. 3. ---------------- On 1/13/2005 3:18:34 PM sfogg wrote: Yes, constant height keeps things a little interesting. It is easier to do if you can make the 2.35 movies top aligned (for a ceiling mounted projector) as then the zoom will just move it to fill the screen. The projectors zoom needs enough range of adjustment for this to work and the projector needs to be the proper distance away. ---------------- The zoom range that you will need is at least 1.3x zoom. Most projectors perform what I call an edge zoom. This means that one edge stays the same and the picture is zoomed out from there. While this is ideal for a ceiling mounted projector it does cause major issues for a constant height screen. As you can see in the second image, if you setup your constant height screen to match the white 16x9 image, when you zoomed in to get the blue 2.35 image the image would be off the screen by 8 inches (shown in green). Those 8 inches are the black bars of the 2.35 image letterboxed within the 16x9 anamorphic image being put out by your DVD player. These black bars are the issue with just a simple zoom. Those black bars plus the 2.35 image make up the 16x9 image and that image is output from the DVD player as a solid block. The projector will see it as a standard 16x9 image and display it as such. So unless you can move your screen position, use lens shift, or move the image on the LCD panel itself your image will not line up with your screen. Laters, Jeff
  4. I am planning on doing a constant height setup myself. Here are some Visio drawings that I have made that should help you understand what you will need to do with your projector as far as the zoom. Visual on the different screen sizes and how the fit a constant height screen: Problems with constant height and a simple zoom: How it will look with the problem solved: You should be able to accomplish the same thing using lens shift but then you have to keep re-adjusting all the time. 5. Here is a link to the complete article: http://www.audioholics.com/ces/CESprocessors/HarmanKardonAVR630430.php Basically you can get DPII 7.1 and faster detection of digital surround formats. Another neat option is that there is a virtual console for full control of the receivers from a Windows PC via RS-232. Laters, Jeff
  6. Looking good just a couple of additional comments about the Cornwall pictures and specs. The Cornwall picture is clearly a picture of a Cornwall II. Also the specs state that the Cornwall was made from MDF. This is not true they were all made with "....3/4" void free birch plywood....". I now that you guys are trying to get everything correct and these are nit picky items but I truely believe that your own website should be "the last word" when it comes to these types of things. These little items are really important for people trying to decide which speakers to purchase off of eBay etc.. While the older models are offically discontinued, there is a HUGE market for them on eBay and other sites. They are still very much sought after and do create an entry point for the brand and may lead to sales in the PC speaker area etc.. If you need pictures of speakers I am sure forum members would be glad to help out. Laters, Jeff
  7. Record player in a car? Yup!! They did it in the late 50's and 60's. Here are some links: http://www.consumerreports.org/main/detailv2.jsp?CONTENT%3C%3Ecnt_id=2495&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2311 http://home.att.net/~uncamarvy/HighwayHiFi/highwayhifi.html Laters, Jeff
  8. Take a look at these guys: http://www.mountsandmore.com/cats/All/Browse-by-Manufacturer/Da-Lite/Screens-Tripod-and-Portable/0C850.htm I have had a couple of friends order from them with great results. I have not used them myself so please use your own judgement. Laters, Jeff
  9. WOOT welcome to the Cornwall Club!!! Now try some jazz and you will never leave! I have to agree with everything said..from rock to classical to jazz to movies..my Cornies have never let me down. I was just watching the Mormon Tabernacle (sp??) Choir on PBS High Def and I was simply stunned. It was an awesome experience. Well enough rambling..congrats on a great purchase!!! Laters, Jeff
  10. Wow great pictures. Now I need to go play around and try Photoshopping some of mine! Jeff
  11. I will agree that the Heresy looks much bigger than the Academy. However it is still not what I would call a small speaker. If someone's SO has a problem with the size of a Heresy they will probably have an issue with the size of the Academy too. It ain't no Bose that was the only point I was trying to make. Ugh not wanting to get into timbre matching again but I used a Heresy for years as a center between my Cornwall's and everyone who listened to my system was always impressed. Of course the vert Cornwall I have now is much better but the Heresy rocked too. So I guess it come down to what works in your room. One trick with the Heresy is to use it upside down tweeter next to the TV and then angle it down. You must use the same reasoning as aiming any horn speaker..you should be looking down the horn while seated. If those of you who tried Heresys did not do this then all the highs and mids would be zingging over your head and yes it would sound like crap. Again to each his own but that is my 0.02 for the night Laters, Jeff
  12. Thanks for the kind wordsabout the pictures. Sadly I am not doing anything in this area at this time. After College I tried to find work doing something with solar powered or electric cars but most of the companies were Mom and Pop type of outfits. I have since been sidetracked into the computer arena. It was great to travel 1100 miles from Orlando to Detroit on sunlight but then again we had a lead van, 2 chase vans, and a support Ryder truck traveling the whole way two so we really burned a bunch of gas too. Also it was not cheap to build. Our car cost $150,000. About $60K of that was for the Silver Cadinum batteries and another $70K was for the solar cells. The winning car cost over $3 million. This was the first race like this in the USA and the numbers of people along the was and at the rest stops was staggering. The entire route was lined with people so it did raise the awareness of alot of people about solar energy. Laters, Jeff
  13. Yup I have the HD Service and HD-DVR from Comcast. The HD is only $5.00 per month. The Internet Service discount applies on the Internet Service side of the bill not the TV side of the bill ( you get a discount on the Internet Service if you also have the TV service). I guess that every part of the country is different but with the Basic HD Comcast service here in DFW we are getting: ABC-HD NBC-HD CBS-HD PBS-HD WB-HD ESPN-HD Discovery-HD INHD1 (as in "IN High Def", NOT "In Demand HD" very confusing. These are free channels) INHD2 Then if you get the Movie Channels there is also a HD channel for each of those (HBO-HD, SHO-HD, etc..) They are also rolling out Video On Demand which is free and super cool. The main reason for the tech is that they need to verify that you have an HD TV and to properly code in the box. If you have your own cables make sure you don't get charged for the "cable pack". Although a neat collection of cables they also charge something like $15 for it. If you have your own cables you can refuse it. I basically already had all the cables run and all the tech had to do was plug them in. Laters, Jeff

She wants a smaller size speaker and this would match sonically. Why doesn't Klipsch manufacture a short run of these speakers? It looks like there might me a market for this particular speaker? ---------------- Just a side note here. The Academy is not that much smaller then a Heresy. Academy 23.25x11x10 Heresy 21.00x15x13.2 Just wanted to throw that out there for the folks who have never seen the Academy in person. It is still a somewhat large and heavy speaker. Laying on it's side the Heresy is actually narrower but 4 only inches taller. Just food for thought. Laters, Jeff
  15. I have just finished scanning in a bunch of negatives with my film scanner from the 1990 GM Sunrayce USA. This race was open to all Colleges across the Nation. It involved writing a proposal on how you would set up the team, get funding, build, and race a solar race car. I was one of the team co-captain's and I am really gald that I took this challenge. I am working on a web page that will detail the race route etc.. but for now here are the pictures if you are interested: http://www.madtomstudios.com/coppermine/index.php?cat=11 Laters, Jeff
  16. Love the recent additions!! Lets keep them rolling in! Jeff
  17. I agree with the above. The selection should probably read Digital or CRT instead of LCD or CRT. You can always try both and see. Now as far as people spending $$$$ for cables to get the last 1 or 2% from a projector that is no different then people spending $$$$$$ on speaker cables or high end interconnects. Laters, Jeff
  18. Oh yeah like I said this is a classic scam. Transcations by e-mail? What type of e-site does that? Look at all the mis-spellings in the e-mail they sent you. Tell them that you want to use an escrow.com or some other verfied escrow company. They will either balk or send you to another escrow site. If they want to use some other escrow site post the link here but I will bet it is a fake as well. These guys are very slick. Just stop and think how they could sell this item for that price. It is either stolen or a complete fraud. In either case why would anyone even think of doing business with them. Laters, Jeff
  19. I would not have any contact with these people. First there is no shopping cart, second and most important the Verisign logo does nothing. If they were really Verisign certified by contract clicking on that will bring you to a Verisign site. I am just guessing that after you contact them that they will say they only take Western Union money orders. No credit cards. You will send them the money and never hear from them again. This is a common scam to lure in Ebay buyers as well. Buyer Beware on this one. Laters, Jeff
  20. Well one of the most obvious differences is that the 500B does not have a headphone jack and the 500C does. Here is a link to some pictures of the 500C on the Fisher Doc's web site: http://www.fisherdoctor.com/Restoration.html and the tube layout of the 500B from my web site: http://home.comcast.net/~stangbanger/HomeTheater/fisher_500b_specs.htm There are some other obvious differences from looking at the photos of the 500C. The metal cover over the tuner section is larger, there are more options and a metal cover over the "MPX Filter" section. There is one less capacitor by the main transformer. The tube layout is different and there appear to be tube differences. Also all the 500B's had a Golden Cascode front end and I think most of the 500C's had a Nuvistor front end (don't quote me on this). Looking at the back of the 500C it looks like it does not have the wired "remote control" port or the center channel output either. Also the speaker terminals are different but the picture is not clear enough for me to see what the differences are. I can try to take a picture of the "inside" of my 500B if you are interested. 21. Just wanted to bump this back up to the top to thank Dave for all of his hospitality on Saturday! I had a great time. It was an afternoon and eveing filled with great music, tubes, and friends. Dave is lucky enough to have 3 Klipsch systems. A nice 2 channel Cornwall system downstairs that is his wife's system (although I think that Dave really got them for himself ), a 2 channel KG4 system in the guest room, and of course the main 5.1 system with Cornwalls left, center, and right; Heresy rears, and a Klipsch subwoofer. Dave's room sounded great. More intimate sounding then the live concert sound I get in my home. You could really feel the music come out and seduce you instead of the grabs you by the balls and shake you feeling I get with my Cornwall system. I dunno it just sounded sexier if that is a good description. I think being on the second floor and the lower ceiling contributed to this. I really liked it. With the Thorens spinning the LP's you could hear that his 5.1 system is also a great 2 channel setup for vinyl. God I so need a decent TT. Just another great example of an awesome 2 channel and multi-channel setup in the same system. We listened to LP's, DVD-A's, SACD's, and DVD-V's and everything sounded great. We even switched out and listened to my Fisher 500B for a bit. All in all a great time. Thanks for hosting this Dave! Who is next????? Laters, Jeff

  24. Mark - I have witnessed the affects of alcoholism and addiction on many people in my life. One is my father who refuses to admit he has a problem yet comes home from work and gets drunk. Now that he has just retired it is worse. My step mother is boardline herself so she does not help the situation. Growing up with this situation was not fun. In fact it helped steer my older sister to alcohol and drugs. She was lucky enough to get some help through AA shortly after college and has been clean and sober for over 12 years now. She refuses to visit my Dad for the obvious reasons. I also have a good friend Sean from high school who I rank among my closest friends. We would talk all the time and he would tell me about how drunk he got, or how stoned he got, or how many drugs he took. I often said to him that he should take it easy but it fell on deaf ears. About 2 years ago he went to a concert with some friends that were all very fu*ked up. Some stranger offered them all some unknown pill saying "it will be the high of your life". They were all more then willing to take it to the next level. For Sean this was his breaking point. He told me that he sat there and thought "Damm how out of control am I that I will take drugs from a complete stranger". So the others took it and did have a fun time (no one died or anything) but he got himself into AA and therapy after that and has been sober for about 18 months now. I guess my point in all this is that no matter how deep your addiction is once you get to the point where you say "hey this is fu*ked up. What am I doing to myself, family, and friends?" that you should seek professional help and through that help you will be able to overcome the addiction and get your life back. If you need anything please feel free to contact me. It takes a lot of guts to post something like this on a public board. Hopefully we can all help you out. Laters, Jeff
  25. Hummm did't even think about the bringing the Fisher...how easy is it to swap out components in your system? Laters, Jeff
