  1. Try this link to look at region free DVD players. They may also help you with the French standard issue. http://www.codefreedvd.com./ I hope this helps you out some. 2. Well I would say that Bose would suck as the primary system in any room esp. for the main home theater system. I have never heard a Bose system until last weekend. I went over to a frined of mine and watched my copy of the Super Speedway DVD on their system and the little Bose cubes did not stand a chance with all the effects and stuff. God it was awful ringing and distoration everywhere. I think he was tying to impress me 'cause we had already seen it at my house and the Klipsch filled the room with good clean LOUD sound. Anyway after hearing that I would not suggest Bose for a main system. However if the goal is just for background noise they may be ok. Klipsch does make in wall and outdoor speakers for whole house sound but I have never heard them. Now on to the important matters. What type of SVT vehicle do you have and what have you done to it? 3. Well I found what I was looking for on that site....but it would cost ~$300 to do it. DOH!! I guess I am not that lazy after all. Maybe I will save up for the voice control systems. Imagine being able to have the following conversation: Me - Computer House - Yes Captian? Me - Engage House - At Once Result - Lights dim, all the correct inputs are selected, and the movie starts playing Or I could just train my dog to operate everything...humm How much is that Phillips remote? 4. Very interesting thoughts. I would like to know this too. I would assume that you would have to "front end" the tube amps with a pre-amp/processor or use the 5.1 analog output of a DVD player. I hope one of the tube guys can help us out on this one. 5. I have recently taken the plunge into the X10 of home automation and it is very very cool!! I am wondering if anyone here has seen some sort of X10 device that can sense a video signal from a DVD player. If I can find one of these then I can use it to trigger some other X10 marcos that I made on my PC to dim the lights and close the drapes etc. I already have the marco working but I have to manually input a code into the remote to trigger it. I am lazy plus I would like to have the "wow" factor of having it done when the movie starts playing like in the real cinema's. Any ideas would be great. Thanks, ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC
  6. Lordy lordy lordy I am to new to this hobby to understand most of what your guys are talking about in regards to different amps speakers etc. but I will say that the Cornwalls rock (my room, my house, and heck even the neighbors form time to time :-)!! If you have a chance to get some I certainly would. Even if you do not like the sound they are easy enough to resell. 7. A little late to the party but here is my opinion. I perfer the diffused sound that RS* speakers give over the direct sound that the RF* speakers give for surround effects. I have used both the RS3's and RF3's as the rear surrounds with my Cornwalls and I found that I like the RS3's better. Having said that I will say that due to room constraints that I was not able to put the RF3's behind the listening position. They were pointing directly at my ears while sitting (one on each side and directly below the RS3's) and I was not able to raise the speakers off the floor any (the RS3's are about 8 feet above the floor) so the tweeters were right at ear level too. If you are able to place the peakers behind you and raise them you may get better sound then I did. Just my 0.02 worth, ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC
  8. I have used both my HK AVR 20 MKII and HK AVR510 with Klipsch speakers and I love the sound. I have no compliants. Some folks say that the HK's are bright but I have not had any problems with my Cornwalls or RF3's or KG4's. Having said that however I have never listened to the Denon/Klipsch combo or to a tube/Klipsch combo either so I may not know what I am missing (err talking out my butt :-). 9. Well the attacks have finally started it seems. After having several weeks to consider what has happened and returning to a somewhat normal routine I just want to add some additional thoughts. I am glad that we (the President) did not act in the heat of the monment and took the time to gather evidence and support from other countries. It seems that we are doing the right things with the proper equipment so hopefully everything will go ok. At least we are providing some food drops to help the starving people fleeing from their homes (not that making them flee is a good thing). I am sure that this will be a long event and unfortunately I am sure that some civilans will be hurt. This puts me in quite a delima as I don't think at this point (after all the press coverage on Afghanistan) that the normal people had any say in allowing bin Laden to reside in Afghanistan and it certainly does not seem that they have the means to rise up and revolt. I am for everything the President says about rooting out and elimating terrorism and so forth. I guess we will have to accept some limited loss of civilian life until we develop some weapon that can track brain waves or something. It just sucks that we have been put in this position. In some ways I think that bin Laden has succeeded...we will never be the same again. 10. Depending on how old the receiver is, it was a very common pratice to "ground" the turntable to the reciever chassis to reduce hum and give the turntable a proper ground reference level. I am sure that this is what they are refering to. If you are not experiencing any hummimg type noises I would not worry about it. 11. Heresy's suck. You need to rid of them right now ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC
  12. Mr Big :-) All DTS receivers have some sort of bass management. I don't know if you have a sub hooked up or not. If you don't have a sub then make sure that your speakers are set to large and that the subwoofer output is set to off or none. Most receivers will set the speaker size to small and subwoofer output on or yes by default. This could explain your lack of bass as the receiver could be routing all the bass to a non existant sub. I know it is a long shot but I thought I would mention it. 13. I read Colin's review and two things struck me. One it was an awsome sub and two nearly the same or equal performance can be have for much less. I am jealous as I have never even seen one of these beasts but perhaps that is best so I can still dream of being able to buy one of these rather than an a new car someday. I mean if you can spend $28K on a sub you must be making some phat loot so go ahead an do it. BTW Colin did you actually buy one?? Me I don't make that kind of cash so I limp along with my little ole $400 SVS enjoying, it would seem, nearly the same quality of bass. Go figure As far as the opinions on Audioreview go I don't agree with TheEar. I think that they are useful in getting a general idea of the quality of a product. But hey I am just a poster on an internet audio BB so that means my opinion should be worth what humm dunno 0.02?? I have to worry about a sound system for the car (parked of course can't hear too much with the motor in the on positon :-). And then there is this whole home theater deal..oh well more reason to get to work each day. As far as recievers go, I know I am in the minority here on this board with this opinion but I really like Harman Kardon. All the HK equipment I have ever owned has sounded great on all my various Klipsch speakers. 19. I bought my pair of 79's for $500. They have some dings and dents but are generally in good shape. They just have a black formica type finish on them not wood. I was very happy to get them for that price I might add Laters, ------------------ FOR SALE OR TRADE COMPLETE R*3 SYSTEM FOR 3 HERESY'S Main System - Cornwalls (L/R main) RC-3 RS-3's (white) SVS 20-39CS Harman Kardon AVR 510 Hafler P505 (running sub) ProMedia 4.2 v400 for PC
  20. Yeah big speakers for sure but they sound awsome. I think all the room is the reason that they have decent bass response. I tool off the back to see what series crossovers I had. I think that I want to give Al's a try. 22. Steve - I have the SVS 20-39CS and I love it. I have heard a system with 2 of these bad boys in a HT on teh second floor of a house and they move the floor quite impressively. I have mine on the the 1st floor of a single floor house (humm) and the floor is solid concrete so I don't get a whole lot of floor movement but you can certainly feel the bass. This woofer is good for music and HT. It reacts very quickly and is not at all "boomy". 23. Maxg - Very well said. I have very much the same emotions while listening to my Cornwall's. Sometimes it is better than live and that is why I love Klipsch so very very much.
