  1. I was thinkin' about a wife, but it might be a while yet. Those in the know will understand. Bruce
  2. Ummmmm, I just like my Moondogs. I enjoy the music through them. They are paid for. The only downside I find with the Moondogs is that they don't generate as much heat as a pair of VRDs would, and heat would be nice with the thermometer dropping the way it is. I am not gonna knock the VRDs. I just couldn't afford them. And, once again, at the levels I listen at, my "dogs" are doing just fine. Bruce
  3. If your email works, I'll send you mine and we can maybe work out a visit. Always nice to meet someone from the forums (well, most anyway [] ) If you got by the house I wouldn't force you to listen to the La Scalas or the Heresies. Don't need a buzz saw to the brain. Bruce
  4. Well, Tom. If you were at the Chickamauga Battlefield, you were about ten miles from my house. I wish I had known. []
  5. Lookout Mountain, Georgia. It is 10.5 degrees F. here this morning at 5:42 am. I thinking it's setting a new record for this date. Bruce
  6. You wouldn't think cold, being in Georgia. Still dropping. It's not 12.4 degrees F. That is colder than they thought it would be and we still have a few hours to go. Usually between 5-6 in the morning is the coldest. brrrrrrrr! EDIT: Wow! It's now 5:40 am and the temp is 10.5 degrees F. I think it is a new low for here on this date.
  7. It's freezing down here too!!!! Where I work atop Lookout Mtn, the temp at 5:00pm was 25 degrees. The temp there right now at 7:42 is 18.6 degrees. They think we will hit 14 on the mountain tonight, with the valley at 19. We may get lower by the looks of things.
  8. Kinda what I was thinkin' too. You gotta love this place.
  9. Let's see... a battery has no ripple, so filtering is for... what? Depending on the load, the dc voltage source would be very stable. I suppose you can point to something the shows why they are "one of the worst voltage sources out there."
  10. My grandfather worked on the Illinois Central... does that count?
  11. The horn isn't that big. Just remember that is a 15 inch woofer. No worse that a 511B for sure, and way more attractive.
  12. I think it had to do with Dean maybe even making a profit on the deal. Deano is serious about a certain relationship, and it shows in so many areas. Thanks Dean, I certainly appreciate it. btw, the crossovers are sweet. One of the best investments I have made to my system. There are some other things I want to do with them (like making it easier to adjust taps), but I'm too busy listening to want to mess with them. Bruce
  13. Sorry for you. It isn't a guess for me. At the volumes I listen to, more than one person who has also designed crossovers thinks what I built works best for me, and better than the extreme slope networks. I made 1st order networks. They don't suck up all the power and don't require higher volumes before they open up. Glad you like what you have. Like I said, his products are quality products, but they aren't for me. It has nothing to do with cost either. The Wal-Mart thing still holds, because I am talking about attitude, not quality or whether or not I can build them. If you think every other crossover is inferior, just enjoy the ones you believe in. I really don't care to get in a fight over it. I think that was Al's job.
  14. I am certainly not denigrating his products or his skills. But his designs aren't necessarily the best for every situation, regardless of the cost. For certain things, they are world class. IT just so happens that certain attitudes will keep me from buying certain products. Al's aren't the first... and probably won't be the last. I wish him well. It's no different than someone deciding not to buy at Wal-Mart because they don't like the attitude.
  15. Gilbert, You know how little power you are using to play at that volume? My Moondogs could do that with ease as well. And the sound is also to die for (please note, I am not saying you will want to die rather than listen to the Moondogs). The best things for you would to find someone who could bring over some good low power amps. In iPod won't cut it. The quality isn't there.
  16. O'Brien certainly has the detail down. Great books. I (at the risk of offending once again) enjoy his books for their accurate Catholic portrayals (rep Vatican II of course. [] He doesn't force it on you but it is there.
  17. Yup, Jim's advice is good. My computer speakers aren't Klipsch, but I would get some if I were starting over. I have a pair of Alesis Monitor Ones, driver by a 100wpc amp. The Klipsch speakers would cost less. [Y] Bruce
  18. I made the same decision based on other posts. He would hate the crossovers I use, and they were designed by someone else on this forum. No matter how good you think your technology is, humility goes a long, long way toward earning the respect of everyone. Dana's comment was meant to be funny, but he pointed out a bit of truth. "Engineers crack me up, as long as I don't have to work with them." Thanks Dana.
  19. Bob, I'll borrow the Mac Mini from work again. I had it here at home for a while, trying to learn more of the Mac OS (Still the most elegant OS around). It may be a few days. []
  20. Chris, I was going to shoot an email to you but the functionality of the new software isn't working quite right (IE or Firefox). I had emailed Dana last year and went through the plans for his Everest model (corner horn). There were some descriptions that annoyed me, and I just beat him up for making the corrections. Don't know if he did, but I also have the plans for the SLS. I want to build a pair myself. If Barbara and I hadn't been going through all of her cancer treatments, I just might have gotten to it. I started using trig to firgure out some of the angles, and felt it would make for a cleaner build. I say some of this to just give him a hard time, and the ideas are really nice. Bruce
  21. Lisa, Give Open Office a try. There is a Mac version you can get. My son uses the windows version for all his school stuff. Totally free and pretty stable too. You might find you like it. I still use an old version of MS office on one of my home computers, but I use OO on the laptop and will continue. It just keeps getting better and better. http://www.openoffice.org/index.html Bruce PS The great news for the forum software is that you can insert a link in Firefox. http://www.openoffice.org/index.html''>http://www.openoffice.org/index.html' title="Open Offiice" target="_blank" mce_href="http://www.openoffice.org/index.html">
  22. I messed around with it w few minutes today while at the office. With heavier strings, it isn't hard to play in tune. A little different feel for sure. He did a nice job on the fretboard. I think it looks pretty good for a "beater" guitar. The other one is a great guitar. Mahogany body with a maple top, a thick maple top at that, carved quite nicely. I like it a lot, and am tempted to get one for myself, but Josh probably wouldn't like the old man getting the same thing. [8-|] Bruce
  23. Nice pics. I guess I don't need to bring the camera into work today. [8-)] It came out looking great.
  24. You could find a local library that carries VideoMaker magazine. Every few months they will do a camera roundup, and compare different brands and break them down into amateur, semi-pro and pro. The pro not being the $50k kind, but still what many folks can get. You will find the less expensive cameras don't allow the use of an external microphone (a mic input jack is absolutely needed i IMO). Zoom ranges are shorter. All of those things. The pricier models sometimes have more features built in, but I would tend to use the editing software to accomplish what I want and not the camera. The pricier cameras should be more rugged, but are not necessarily so. None will be as rugged as a 16mm film camera was/is (still being made but the film costs alone are through the roof). A year subscription isn't a bad thing either. If you already know something about video shooting and editing, you may find it too fluffy, but it's still a pretty decent mag. They also hold seminars, in different cities, held over a couple of days, that you may find useful. You can check out their website at: http://www.videomaker.com/ They also review software (editing, music, sound effects) and other hardware (small mixers, microphones, lights). Or hang out here at DigitalMediaNet. I like their forums better than Creative Cow. http://forums.digitalmedianet.com/ Bruce
