  1. The following was a thread on the Aristocrat. I posted a couple of pics of a pair that sold on ebay. They only went for $227. Aristocrats Marvel
  2. Since I REALLY am trying to cut down on posting through the summer, I keep coming up with things to post. Yesterday, my wife got the pathology report on a mole she had just had removed. Once again, it is showing as melanoma. She had one removed a bit over four years ago, and has been diligent to pay attention to changes. We meet with the oncologist on Friday, to plan on surgery to get everything arranged. She is stressed, but doing okay. She knows she is in God's hands. I would ask for your prayers (here we go, being religious again!). My wife's name is Barbara. Bruce aka Marvel
  3. Yes, you can use the Titebond for iron on. Almost any PVA glue can work this way. Put glue on both pieces (veneer and cab). Let dry a bit. Line up veneer and use an iron to 'melt' the glues. Use a towel on the veneer to keep from scorching it. The Heatlock from Joewoodworker would be better for this, but the others also work. Greg Roberts has done cabinets this way and has posted an article on the technique at the end of one of his restoration pages. I can't find the link right now, so perhaps someone else will post it.
  4. I have a question about ports. Is it the volume of a port that makes it works correctly? In other words, can you change the dimensions of the port as long as the volume remains the same? D-man -- love the look of these new ones. I have other questions you haven't answered yet so I'll send an email from home tonight.
  5. And I want to get some built before summer is over. Did you have attachments here?
  6. Jammin' Jersey has them pretty often between $100-$125. http://www.jamminjersey.com/speakers.php?prod=altec
  7. You need the hemptone speakers for great tone... hemp speaker cones http://www.tonetubby.com/ They ain't cheap. I had a bassman back in the late '60s. The cab had two JBL D130s. That was one NICE amp/speaker combo.
  8. I agree that the phase plug is more critical for the compression drivers, and would think their use on DRs would be less so, as you have less high end to begin with. Agreed that looks sell products. Have a great weekend.
  9. ---------------- On 6/24/2005 8:52:33 PM boom3 wrote: A phase plug on a direct radiator speaker is purely cosmetic. The cited web page about phase plugs is typical 'audiophile' pseudo-science and wishful thinking. the 'delicate midrange' waves they are fantasizing about are so big, compared to the phase plug that they will refract around it, not be reflected by it. A phase plug only works_in a horn driver_ if the surrounding air chamber is also configured correctly. The plug and the chamber work together to ensure that all path length from all parts of the the diapahram to the throat are equal at all frequencies. Since there is no corresponding chamber on a direct radiator, it can't work as true phase plug. Yeah, they _look_cool. ---------------- Sure, Boom. But I also think that B&C know what they are doing as well. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=294-650 And I think Klipsch had them on the Preomiere series that hasn't come out. Why spend the money if it is only cosmetic? That's not really the Klipsch way. Do we nees a BS button here?
  10. It's a disease... I check in on things and no one answers the call so I plow blindly on. Work is pretty stressful at the moment, so this has once again become a break. We're on the downhill side of summer now though. The days will start to get shorter. The youngest heads off to college this Fall. I am really wanting to build some cabinets, but really don't have the time or funds, as repairs on our house are on the schedule for early July. I came to this forum originally so I could find out about building some LS clones. Still haven't made them, but something better is on the horizon (just can't let the cat out of the bag yet). But I do have the Heresys to make noise with. But I won't post as much for a while.... maybe.
  11. I only use Firefox now (still on Windows 2000), but I've been told the newer software from MS on XP works really well. With Firefox, I almost never get popups or spyware.
  12. Yes, no, maybe... Depends also on style of guitar playing. Depends on how loud you want to play. Passive or active pickups? Active will put out a VERY hot signal, but you could still plug it into the stereo. EQ is way different on the two different preamp/amps. I've done it for years, but I don't do certain styles. It is a way to hear the guitar to be able to get some practice in while the amp is being fixed. Maybe just use common sense... I wouldn't play as loudly though my stereo as I do through my regular guitar amp.

Take my word for it (30+ years lead guitarist) do not ever try to play electric guitar or bass through gear not designed for musical instrument amplification! Six string Paul ---------------- Dude -- you won't hurt it. It just won't sound like a guitar amp. Unless you are using an amp simulator too. One reason they sound bad (normally) is an improper loading of the pickup by the preamp you plug into. If you use a standalone preamp it will work okay. At least enough to practice with.

One of the most popular speakers ever made. Even with its faults.
  15. Just remember that when it fall off the table, to let it go....
  16. Nice -- here's another one: The Italian Tomato Garden An old Italian man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig his tomato garden, but it was very hard work as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament. Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me. Love, Dad A few days later he received a letter from his son. Dear Dad, Not for nothing, but don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried the BODIES. Love, Vinnie At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son. Dear Dad, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances. Love, Vinnie
  17. Those JBL fanatics upgrade their crossovers too, Dean. Don't let 'em fool ya.
  18. I swore off of here for the summer, but Dean may want this. The schematic for the L220 crossover. Those are sweet speakers, but since you have just one... Marvel
  19. Thanks guys Since I'm outa here for the rest of the summer I do some thinking on this. The PC looks very good. The Bosch looks very good (has soft start too, which was mentioned. Plus the 1/4 and 1/2 inch collets. Most stuff would, as has been pointed out, use the fixed base. I'v ebeen talking with the two carpenters/cabinet makers at the college where I work too, getting their input. I can drop by and see them work (bug 'em all the time actually). Laters Marvel
  20. I'm outta here for the summer. Too much to do and I need a break from this place. I've not really been too offended by anyone, and if I disagree a lot, I won't respond. Been watching the same thing happen on the Lansing Heritage forums. Some nice folks just get walked on. I've lots of projects that aren't getting done because I'm sitting here typing. I'll have a peek at the boards now and then though, and if anyone want to write, let it be an email. Catch ya'll on the flip side of summer. (I just hope I don't miss too much!) Marvel

Marvel
  22. REALLY large bits! The kind people use to make panel doors, etc. Not exactly what I need either. I don't want one under powered, but I need to be able to hold onto it.
  23. ---------------- On 6/12/2005 8:15:12 PM bsafirebird1969 wrote: Dude ... why does yer avatar have a Cerwin-Vega Speaker in it ...... ---------------- Yeah, the PC gets good reviews too. The 3HP might be overkill. We have a lot of DeWalt gear at work. Good stuff too. m00n, No work on instruments with this size router. Most instrument makers use Dremels. You can get nice router bases for them. Folks use them to route out cavities for inly work, using 1/16 inch spiral bits, etc. Now, the larger routers ARE used to make cavities for pickups and such in electric guitar bodies. Marvel
