  1. I recently got a Marantz 40n for my CWIVs. I think it pairs well and like the reviews I read prior to buying it has good solid bass. Buddy Shagmore what Marantz did you have?
  2. Yes it’s personal opinion. Oops! I skipped ahead too far. Time flies on archived internet posts. I’d say you did great with your money. As a Cornwall owner I think you got it right!
  3. Cheap audio man from YouTube loves the 6000f towers. He said they’re a great value and have really punchy bass. He said he even prefers them to the Heresy IV. Ouch!
  4. If you want to rock the house, get some KLF 10s or 20s for your $500. Then save up for a new amp.
  5. I just went from a Marantz pm7000n to a model 40n. The 40n added a bit of weight and punch to the bass. I do have a sub but I’m comparing without it of course. Had I started out with the 40n I really could’ve lived without a sub. Though the sub does add that final dimension.
  6. Makes me want one for my Cornwall IVs. I remember about 25 years ago I was playing my RF3s with an Onkyo AVR. I thought they sounded great at the time. My buddy brought over an amp that his stepdad let him try out. An old Marantz from the 70s. It completely destroyed the AVR. So much richer and fuller sound. We played Chicago 25 or 6-4. Ran into him a few months ago. His stepdad recently gave him the reciever. Turns out it is a Marantz 4270. 75? I know it’s a quad and 70 something. Lol.
  7. I’m just toying with the idea of an upgrade to my Marantz pm7000m for my Cornwall IVs. I’m debating whether an amp upgrade or a mini dsp with Dirac would be the better option. So far the amps I’m considering are the Parasound a23/p6 combo or the new NAD c3050 with Dirac. I did get a WiiM mini to play with the eq and it does help, especially on poorer recordings. Makes me curious as to what Dirac or something similar would do. I think these are my end game speakers. Now just want to get the most out of them.
  8. I have Cornwall IVs in my living/dining/kitchen area that’s mostly open. In total it’s about 22x25. I can only sit about 11 feet from the speakers but there is an open foyer extending behind me. I would venture to say that this is an ideal space for Fortes, however I like that the Cornwalls can be placed against the wall. Plus the bigger soundstage is nice when listening in the kitchen or up walking around. They can easily overwhelm the room but that’s what a volume control is for. I also have KLF 20s that were in this space but now are in a 12x20 room on the short wall where they sound great. Upstairs side by side the Cornwalls cast a wider more room filling soundstage. 18x20 gives enough space I believe to take advantage of that.
  9. That’s awesome! What a great deal the older Heritage are vs modern stuff that’s much more expensive. The Crites upgrades will be fun to do and then you’ll have a lifetime speaker. I enjoyed my RF3 towers (and still do) for 20 years but always wanted the Cornwalls for their shear massive presence. Lol.
  10. I have the RP160m and some old RF3 towers so similar to the models you have. I recently bought Cornwall IVs and they are simply a better music speaker than the others. The midrange is more present and open giving you a bigger window into the recordings so to speak. They have a very open and live sound with a bit more relaxed top end than the RP line. The drivers are very well integrated and the big three way speaker sounds like one tight unit. I also have KLF 20s and for your type of music they are the best bang for the buck, though money aside the CWIVs do have a smoother midrange and more seamless integration. Plus the CWs are less in your face and a bit more forgiving of bad recordings. If you love the mid century modern look of the Heritage (I do) and can spring for it though, the Forte IVs or Heresy IVs would be awesome. Maybe look for B stock from Paducah Home Theater on eBay.
  11. See if you can find some Cornwall IV within a reasonable distance to listen to. I have them and they produce a big soundstage. Hard to realize the advantage though unless you can hear them along side your Fortes.
  12. Coming from an RP series, I think you’d get a really nice upgrade with the Forte IV. Plus I like the idea of unboxing those beauties new.
  13. I’ve had my CWIVs for about 5 months now. I believe they do sound better and better. Or it could be in part because I have stopped being so analytical all the time of my expensive purchase. Now I’m just happy to have them and enjoy them everyday. Either way they’re lifetime speakers. Just enjoy them and months or years down the road it may hit you that they are damned amazing!
  14. That’s about where my one sub is set just from listening and adjusting to taste!
  15. I really like the SVS SB3000. The app is handy and easy to use to make adjustments on the fly. It really seems to blend well and doesn’t produce any bloated bass. It can be dormant on an old 60s track with no bass to speak of and then shake the floors on the next track when playing an eclectic mix. I have very little basis for comparison and maybe I just described most subs but I’m certainly happy! At age 47 my only previous sub is my old Velodyne CHT 12 which was decent but this one bests it by quite a bit.
  16. 37hz. Man that’s low. I like mine at 50-60 so far but sometimes 60 does seem to over emphasize that freq range. When I use the low pass on the SVS app The overall volume of the bass seems to dip a bit vs using it on the amp.
  17. So I recently posted asking what sub to get and ended up with an SVS SB 3000. Now I’m trying to decide what adjustments make to blend it in. I don’t have much experience with subs but so far this one really seems nice. It already blends pretty well with low pass set at 60hz on my receiver. I have turned of the parametric eq because Im guessing I would need a mic and room measuring software to really use that feature. So what advice do you all have for tweaking the sub? Also do you ever use the bass knob on your amp while also using a sub or should I just adjust the level of the sub and just stay on pure audio or tone defeat?
  18. Dave. I just received a new SVS SB 3000 a couple of days ago. I’m still playing with the app and messing with the settings. Seems to be a nice sub. I haven’t heard many but it blends pretty well. I will look into the DSP. Thanks.
  19. CHT 12. Budget wise, I mean I need to do justice to the Cornwalls. I can buy one sub at a time so I’m thinking somewhere around the SVS 2000 for $899. Give or take. Maybe a pair of the SVS 1000s would suffice?
  20. Not sure why it goes into protection mode. I mean it honestly works fine for 90 percent of my listening. I don’t want to destroy my hearing and it adds a lot of enjoyment to the music at or below 80 db. I haven’t heard any newer or better subs but this one does the trick for me. I just want to find an even better long term solution. I am a bit of a minimalist or at least I try to be..lol. Therefore I prefer the idea of just the Cornwalls in a 2.0 and told myself I don’t need a sub. But honestly just the subtly blended bottom end it adds to the music is a game changer for me. I just hooked it up a couple of days ago and was up listening until 1am last night. It’s so much more addicting!
  21. So I’m in the market for a sub or a pair of them if need be. Yesterday I dusted off my old Velodyne 12” sub and tried it out with my Cornwalls. It really does help fill out the bottom end and it seems to help the entire soundstage. I don’t have much experience with subs but this one seems to do a pretty good job. The only problem is it goes into protection mode pretty easily, especially with anything bass heavy. So what sub or subs do you recommend for music? I do watch movies in 2.1 with it but music is top priority. If I use two subs can they be smaller? Like dual 10” instead of one 15 or 18”? Btw this set up is in my living room which is open to the dining room and kitchen so it’s a largish space. Like 4500 cubic feet. Thanks Jon
  22. Listening right now at 65 db or so. These new Heritage speakers are lifetime keepers!
  23. I mostly listen between 65-75db avg on my phone meter. If 85 for 8 hrs is actually safe that’s plenty loud to enjoy music. 75 is decently stimulating.
  24. Same with my Cornwall IVs. Very good at lower volumes as well as loud.
