  1. Guess the next is, are there any happy/content RF-3 owners' who feel no desire to upgrade? I was content with the RF-3......until I heard the RF-5. Lol
  2. This thread has me again contemplating finding a pair of RF-5's, selling the RF-83's and pocketing the cash......Lord have mercy.
  3. All things considered. Size, price, etc. The RF-5 is a comfortable speaker size wise, not to big, not to small, great size horn and great lows. Very impressive soundstage and can be bought for half what the RF-83 can be bought for. I love the 83's and clearly they are a great speaker but theres a lot of places they wont fit mainly due to the depth of them.
  4. For me personally, if I had to have one pair of speakers with all things taken into consideration, size, etc....I would go with the RF-5. Thats me personally. I like the sound. That may not be the case for others though.
  5. I at one point, and may still in the future, wanted to sell my RF-83's and buy a pair of 5's and pocket the extra cash for another amp or something. The RF-5 to me is that good.
  6. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone, who has heard both the RF-3 & RF-5, that would say dont make the upgrade if you have the chance. The RF-3 is a great speaker but there is an audible difference between the two.
  7. They have the same 8" 90 x 60 horn, the tweeters are different, yes....Horns the same. RF-7 has a 1.75" tweeter, RF-5 has a 1". The larger horn on the 5 being larger than the horn on the 3, though makes it worth the upgrade, to me anyway, having heard both side by side. The RF-5 has the edge on the low end to....thats not just my opinion, its a fact.
  8. In my opinion its worth it. The RF-5 is not only taller, it has the same horn as the RF-7. Ive had the 3 and the 5, the RF-5 had a much bigger presence to me. Better soundstage as well.
  9. Another thing I would like to point out, someone correct me if Im wrong. It seems to me the me that the veneer on the CW3 is quite a bit thinner than what is on the CW1 or CW2. Also, for what it's worth, Cornwall 3 is MDF. Its predecessor is plywood, that makes a difference.
  10. My story isnt near as interesting! I had a Friend put a pair of Cornwalls 3's on hock in a pawn shop so he could go buy a pair of RF-83's. He had them about a month and was unable to secure the $$ to go get his Cornwall 3's back. He sold me the RF-83's for $800 cash + a pair of RF-3's that worked great but needed a little love cosmetically. I too had the "holy sh*t those are huge moment!" After I was finally able to get them about 12ft apart and position them on a wall where they were not near as invasive, the magic ensued! I had a few days of "these are just to big" but now Im used to them and they look average, however, they sound far from average. I have really enjoyed them.
  11. I can vouch for Crites parts. They sound great. I have ran my CW1's on a Marantz 2265, Marantz Monoblocks, and a Hafler DH-200. The only amp I ever noticed a hum with was the Monoblocks. Not sure why that was, I suspect the monoblocks needed new caps, I dont know though. I really enjoy the CW1's on the DH-200. Its a clean 100wpc, (126wpc at bench test), and its a very warm, vintage sound. I know the Hafler is not what some would consider worthy but for me its great. I cant speak for the tube amps. I know they are TYPICALLY high $$ and low power which are 2 things Im not really interested in but A LOT of people are. My opinion is more power equals more low end. I know Cornwalls are very efficient but there is a point with more power that they seem to "open up" and really jam. They sounded great with the Marantz 2265 at 65wpc but with the 100+ wpc....we got a party now. Thats my opinion, with my ears and my mid grade equipment.
  12. The RF-63's and RC-64 as well as far as the Reference IV line goes. Bill Out of curiosity....Why do the RF-83's not have the Hope, Arkansas sticker?
  13. Cool. One guy was telling me China and another said Indianapolis but I thought Hope. Just wanted to confirm. Thanks, Bill!
  14. I gotta ask....Im hearing different things!
  15. I have a friend here in Arkansas with a pair! Come on down! In all honesty though, I'll take a CW1 or CW2 any day. Difference in sound, however slight, doesn't justify the vast difference in price, IMHO. I have '64 CW cabinets with all Crites parts and his CW3's sound no better to me.
  16. Unit seems to go directly to protect mode when powered on. I have no idea why this is. If you want it $40 will get it and that does include shipping. Cosmetically the thing is great, display lights up, etc....just no sound and no remote. Cleaning out stuff I'll never use or repair to make room for the next wave of whatever I get. Lol.
  17. In the off chance anyone wants a nice tape deck I have one! Im asking $50, that includes shipping. As you can see in one pic, the pause button has a very small chip on it. All the lights work. Unit works great. There is the slightest static on the output level knob. Cleaning the pot will cure that. Thanks!
