  1. Am I missing something here? The Merlin doesn't have phono capabilities does it?
  2. Gary that Arp looks minty. I only have the Arturia softsynth version which is one of my faves. I had a chance to buy one for REALLY cheap around 1990 or so but it was one of the really early models with a dead power supply encased in epoxy(or whatever problem those were prone to have...something along those lines). I'll crap if you have a 2500.
  3. Just read this. Gonna play In A Silent Way REALLY loudly right now.
  4. The VU-looking meter says 0, 33, 45 & 78. I think each number corresponds with the yearly sales for the next 4 years.
  5. That Mcintosh turntable has to be the strangest/oddest deck I've ever seen. It looks like someone just plopped a turntable on top of a MC-2105.
  6. Corvette this is off topic but what is the deal with your signature and website. Are you being serious are do you really have 90 speakers in your house? You really use stuff like Kenwood amps and Teac?! equalizers with them? I'm so confused...you don't even have one piece of tube equipment?
  7. All those guys trying to cop Michael Hedges are driving me nuts. Let me just tune up to an open chord and smack the guitar around...no offense but it's easier than it appears.
  8. I'll have to second the John Fahey suggestion. My favorite is titled America. Any of his Christmas albums are also highly recommended.
  9. sputnik I shoot with an FE2 as well! I love it! I also love my Canon EXEE, my Holga 120 & especially my Lomo. For digital I use a simple $3-400 Nikon Coolpix.
  10. Holy Crap Tim!!! Are you serious? You're taking this a lot better than I would. I'd be knocking on a front door!
  11. I think I like Strangeitude the best. Some of the guys in Ozric Tentacles also make more electronic stuff under the name Eat Static.
  12. Back in the day Fisher made some pretty high quality tube gear. Stuff like this:
  13. Ozric Tentacles-Waterfall Cities(Phoenix Rising Records. CD. 1999) Electronic/prog-rock with tons of tasty guitar and trippy/psychedelic techno-ish rhythms. Take one part Joe Satriani, one part Steve Hillage & one part techno...throw in some crazy cliche prog artwork and you've got a decent album. This would be a good starting point to get into the Ozrics as they have PLENTY of albums. Chances are that if you like this you'll probably like all of their stuff. That's probably the only negative thing I have to say about them is that it's hard to distinguish one album from another but they're all good. I like this one, Strangeitude & Arborescence the best.
  14. Pearl Jam-Lost Dogs(Epic. 2cd set. 1991-2003) Cool and cheap way to get all those rockin' Pearl Jam b-sides, rare cuts, Christmas fan-club only songs, etc. Yellow Ledbetter & Dirty Frank or on this. Informative liner notes as well. Dust off that flannel shirt and don't bathe for a few days to make it all the more realistic.
  15. ESG-A South Bronx Story(Soul Jazz/Universal Sound CD. 1981-?) Ahead of its time stuff from the Scroggins sisters. Part of the "No-Wave" movement from NY circa early 80's. Recorded by the mighty Martin Hannett of Factory Records fame(Joy Division, New Order, Depeche Mode) so it has his signature bare-bones sound. Skeletal rhythms with a great bass/drums foundation. For fans of Public Image LTD., early Talking Heads, Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, etc. 2 tracks here(Moody and UFO...UFO specifically) are some of the most sampled songs of all-time. I think 20 Public Enemy songs use UFO.
  16. Harold Budd & Brian Eno-The Pearl(EG/Virgin Records DSD-CD reissue. 1984) Beautiful ambient album from Eno with gorgeous piano work from Budd. Very nice early Saturday/Sunday wake up album. Just add coffee.
  17. Small Faces-Small Faces(Repertoire CD. 28 track version. 1967) Garage rock classic from the Summer Of Love. If you like early Who/The Kinks/Nuggets-style rock you'll probably dig this. Steve Marriott sings and plays his *** off this. For those who don't know Rod Stewart and Ron Wood(Stones) later joined and they morphed into The Faces. I'm also listening to a comp called All Or Nothing that is comprised of a bunch of b-sides, non-album tracks and some INCREDIBLE live tracks. Recommended!
  18. Misfits-Collection(Caroline /Plan 9 Records LP/CD. 1978-? 82 or so) Absolute classic punk/horror rock from Glen Danzig and company. Whenever I'm just running down the road to the store to pick up some snacks etc. I usually throw this on 'cuz I can squeeze in 3 or 4 songs in less than 10 minutes :-) One of my all time faves.
  19. Oh Comely I will be with you when you lose your breath Chasing the only meaningful memory you thought you had left With some pretty bright and bubbly terrible scene That was doing her thing on your chest But oh comely It isn't as pretty as you'd like to guess Oh comely All of your friends are letting you blow Bristling and ugly Bursting with fruits falling out from the holes Of some pretty bright and bubbly friend You could need to say comforting things in your ear But oh comely There isn't such one friend that you could find here Standing next to me He's only my enemy I'll crush him with everything I own Your father made fetuses With flesh licking ladies While you and your mother Were asleep in the trailer park Thunderous sparks from the dark of the stadiums The music and medicine you needed for comforting So make all your fat fleshy fingers to moving And pluck all your silly strings And bend all your notes for me Soft silly music is meaningful magical The movements were beautiful All in your ovaries All of them milking with green fleshy flowers While powerful pistons were sugary sweet machines Smelling of semen all under the garden Was all you were needing when you still believed in me And I know they buried her body with others Her sister and mother and 500 families And will she remember me 50 years later I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine Know all your enemies We know who are enemies are Goldaline my dear We will fold and freeze together Far away from here There is sun and spring and green forever But now we move to feel For ourselves inside some stranger's stomach Place your body here Let your skin begin to blend itself with mine This is probably my favorite song of all time. Oh Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel from the album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.
  20. Wheelman...once you've gone Firefox you'll never go back to anything else. I've used it since it first came out and now I never use anything else. Who still uses clunky Internet Explorer? I think a lot of people don't even realize they can download different(better) browsers than IE and use them instead.
  21. Excuse me if this has been talked about already but THESE may be the most expensive pair I've ever seen. Does the Walnut finish command this much of a price?! The boxed pair went for $1200.

    Zodiac

Here's a selling point. It was directed by David Fincher who brought us Fight Club and Seven. We should all forget about Panic Room though.
  23. Oldbuckster I could hear every song from that Stones concert from my living room. I live right by Zilker Park/Barton Springs.
  24. I wouldn't call myself a huge "fan". I do like the Dukes album the best. I have a few XTC albums and their greatest hits album and listen to them occasionally. If you wanna try out some great little-known bands along the same lines you might want to track down the Children Of Nuggets box set that Rhino put out last year. 25 O'Clock actually starts off the 4 disc set. Fantastic stuff as well as all of the Nuggets Box sets.
