  1. Ditch the Mac and put some tubes in front of the cornwalls. Thank me later.....
  2. That's a good suggestion. Also, you could take it to a friend's system. Even if they don't have high sens. speakers, if the amp has a hum, it'll still be present, just much lower in volume.
  3. What is everyone saying in Steve's forum? If this is commonplace it surely is being discussed.
  4. Maybe I missed it, but you have tried other amps in your system that do not hum? At all?
  5. The problem is that if you have any level of inherent noise in your system, most tube amps will bring it to the surface with horns. Especially if you have excessive gain in your preamp. I used to think some level of noise in tube amps (especially in SET amps) was normal, especially with high efficiency speakers. After owning three Aric Audio amps, I have a different opinion. All of them are as dead quiet as 3 am. I mean "put your ear next to the speaker and think the amp is off" quiet. If Aric Kimball can make excellent sounding amplifiers with such a low noise floor, why can't others?
  6. Yeah I wanted to get on the list for a new Torii a couple of years ago. Glad I didn't. My custom Aric Audio 300B amp only took five weeks from commission to receipt. And as good as Steve's work is, I think I made the right decision.
  7. I had a Decware Torii II on a pair of klipschorns a few years ago. While it was not as quiet as my Aric amps, it was nothing like you describe. I think you have a system issue and not an amp issue.
  8. New wheels on the whip!
  9. Not only are horns sensitive to placement, but also to the equipment you put in front of them. Yes they can sound good with most gear, but really shine with a good source and low powered tubes. This is when you will experience the magic you have heard about.
  10. Good luck and I hope you never have to deal with Bea.
  11. Any time you combine home theater with stereo you will have to make compromises. You will have to decide what those will be.
  12. @Flevoman Boy, you done did it now……😲
  13. @MK 600 This will be a seamless transaction for you. Mike is a stand up guy. I am currently using his old lascalas that I bought from him. You won’t be disappointed.
  14. Congrats. I bought the CWIV w/o hearing them. But I owned cornwalls before so I knew the general idea of what I was getting. But I wasn’t prepared for how much better they are than what came before them. You are in for a treat.
  15. We'll try not to hold that against you....
  16. I have yet to hear any speaker make Asia's first album sound worth a damn. And that's a great album. I tolerate it infrequently only because the music is so good.
  17. I know Polk Audio made some good speakers back in the 80s, which are the only ones I have experience with. I looked up the R700s and they appear to be decent for the $$. I don't currently own CW IVs, but I did own a pair for about a year. They are just awesome speakers and I'd be willing to bet, a very substantial upgrade to what you have now. And you certainly have a good room to accommodate them. If you have to travel a little to hear a pair, I think you should. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
