  1. Modifid Khorns

Just an update on the Khorns. Now triamping, solid state on the bass, Welborne 2A3 mid-range and Welborne 45 on top. Also have the system time aligned. Woofer stock, med-range B&C DCM50 with Eliptrac horn, B&C DE120 tweeter. Room is acoustically treated with diaphragmatic absorbers, acoustic panels and quadratic residue diffusers.
  2. Klipschorn Type A network

Pair of original Type A crossover networks. They came with my fathers Khorns he bought in 1969. Work fine. Make offer.
  3. Excellent pair of Al Klappenberger's extreme slope crossovers for Klipschorns for sale. These have been lightly used. I have two other pairs of ALK crossovers and so this is an extra pair. Price new ES400 + ES5800 (ES-Khorn set) ............... $1540.00 For sale price $1,000 plus free shipping in continental US Mark Minnesota
  4. ALTEC 311-60 HORN PAIR MINT

Altec 311-60 horns are an excellent when paired with Altec 288 drivers. Taper cut-off frequency is 220 Hz and is intended to be used in systems crossing over at 300Hz and above. These are excellent sounding horns. In my opinion the 311-60 is a better sounding horn than the 311-90. The reason is because the 311-60 is more directional and have better imaging. SPECIFICATIONS: Frequency 300 Hz plus Weight 19.5 lbs. each Payment method as mutually agreed upon. $850 plus shipping within continental US is free.
  5. Altec Lansing 288-16H horn drivers are the last of the famous 288 drivers made with an AlNiCo magnet. They are the last and rarest of the AlNiCo’s. It's been forty years since the 288Hs were last made and they continue to be widely regarded as the best compression drivers. Highly efficient, they work effortlessly with even the lowest power amps. They, like the 288G’s are one-third larger and extend the upper frequency limit by 2,000 cps compared with previous 288s. SPECIFICATIONS: Frequency 500-15,000 Hz Sensitivity 109db Diaphragm Aluminum Voice Coil Diameter 2.8" Weight 29.25 lbs. Condition of the bodies and rear covers is outstanding. These have new diaphragms and remagnetized by Great Plains Audio. The drivers have all mounting hardware and gaskets. Payment method as mutually agreed upon. Asking $1,000 plus free shipping within continental US.
  6. Altec 288-16H

Pair of execllent condition Altec 288-16H compression drivers. Altec Lansing 288-16H horn drivers are the last of the famous 288 drivers made with an ALNICO magnet and tangerine phase plug for better high frequencies. It's been forty years since the 288Hs were last made and they continue to be widely regarded as the best compression drivers. They are much rarer (made for just one year) than even the highly regarded 288G’s. The serial numbers are 122 and 140. They are very efficient and operate with amplifiers at 1.5watts. They, like the 288G’s are one-third larger and extend the upper frequency limit by 2,000 cps compared with previous 288s. SPECIFICATIONS: Frequency 500-15,000 Hz Sensitivity 109db/1w/1m Diaphragm Aluminum Throat Size 1.4” Voice Coil Diameter 2.8" Weight 29.25 lbs. Although they probably did not need it, I had both drivers remagnetized and new aluminum diaphragms installed by Great Plains Audio. Condition of the bodies and rear covers is outstanding. The drivers have all mounting hardware and gaskets. These drivers are a great addition to the Khorns with an 805 horn or the 311-60 horn. Asking $1,250.
  7. Currently I am using a B&C DCM50 mid frequency driver and Dave Harris Eliptrac 400 horn for the squawker and the B&C DE10 for high frequency and ALK universal crossover. It makes sense to use a coaxial driver like the BMS 4592 in the Eliptrac horn for time alignment. Has anyone had any experience with this combination? Also I am bi-amping the woofers with a Hypex PSC2.400 amp on each channel and using the electronic crossover of the Hypex. Currently for the mids and highs I am using a 45 SET amp. The current combination sounds very smooth with lots of low end grunt. Thanks for your input.
  8. The ungrades on the Moondogs were Caddock resistors, Blackgate Muse electrolytic power supply capacitors, Jensen Copper Foil paper-in-oil capacitors, Cardas brand RCA connectors for the input jacks and binding posts and precision machined Teflon tube sockets. The tubes came from Andy Bowman of Vintage Tube Services in Rockford MI. He goes through a very exhaustive testing process. http://vintagetubeservices.com/
  9. They were built as a kit by my father who was a mechanical engineer.
  10. Welborne Moondogs with ultimate upgrade. Excellent condition. Tubes are matched RCA biplate, Sylvania 6SN7 , Mullard CV378 rectifier tubes. $1,800 plus shipping. Seling due to death of father. I would keep for myself but I already have a pair. Also have for sale: AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 CD player with matched tubes with upgrades - $500 plus shipping FT Audio LW-1 passive preamp - $350 plus shipping Shipped from Minnesota
  11. Early warning. Posting soon for a pair of Welborne Labs Moondogs 2A3 monoblocks with ultimate upgrade. These are from my 88 year old father who passed away last October. I would keep for myself but I already have Moondogs and the Starchief 45 SET amps. I am not sure of the price I will ask but they are in great condition. My fathers system had filtered air blown through his components when running. He had a Marantz 10b (bought new), but I am keeping that. He also had a pair Khorns modded with Altec 288k, 805b horns and ALK crossover.
  12. Mark1101 - What are you using for your crossovers with the BMS 4592ND coaxial drivers? I use B&C DCM50's with the Eliptrac 400 horns. I am thinking these horns with the BMS 4592 ND coaxial driver may be a great combination especially since the time alignment problem would be eliminated relative to the mids/tweeter.
  13. Who Here Is Eqing Their Khorns

It looks like your speakers are falling off considerably below 90hz. I would think it would be fairly obvious. It may be a factor of using a 45SET amp. Smooth mids and highs but lacks bass. I too am using a 45 SET but only for the mids and highs. For the bass i use a Hypex class D amp.
