  1. Awesome. Why? I'm trying to learn something here. I honestly want to know.
  2. Yes, I know. Same idea with the THT. But, the THT requires the access panel have a cover. I have my THT firing into a corner, placed exactly 18" away from the front wall. I'm asking why it doesn't require an airtight driver enclosure. I really would like to know. If it doesn't, maybe I'll build 2 of these instead of another THT. No access panel cover would make building this a little easier.
  3. Um no. So it's not like a THT? What's the difference?
  4. Does the access cut out not have it's cover? I see no place to secure it. If you're not covering the access cut out you're losing pressure and the sub isn't going to perform as well. It has to be 100% air tight to function properly.
  5. Got mine yesterday. They were packed very well and still have that newly stained smell. Also, they were shipped the day after I paid (actually the same day because I paid late at night). Thanks Moray!! Now I just have to attach them.
  6. Watched Serenity last night. Another movie that really sounds great; plus it's just an awesome movie.
  7. You don't need a Klipsch sub just because you have Klipsch speakers. And, to get one that will do anything for music you would have to up you budget a lot. You really are better off going the DIY route or finding one used. Look for SVS, PSA, Reaction, HSU, Outlaw, and Rythmik. Cost wise these are some of the best value available. If you could list off your other equipment and room dimensions that would be a big help.
  8. The 2nd one is awesome. I've been putting off any movie watching until the THT is done - luckily I'm close. Just need to paint and get her downstairs. Then I'll fire up Salvation, Tron, Avatar, and Olympus has Fallen and Cloverfield. The last movie I did watch was The Matrix. Forgot how much I liked the first one.

    Duratex.

Nice. I like the option of not having to buy a damn gallon.
  10. Whippersnapper. I was 2 years out of high school then. Old man
  11. Man I would love these. That's the year I was born. Damn! Damn, damn, Damn!
  12. I thought the sound in Gladiator was awful. Had to check several times to see if my subs were even playing. Besides the lack of LFE, IT sounds ok. I haven't watch SPR in a long time. Might have to throw that in when I get the new sub up and running.
  13. Do you have some pics? I'm interested. Thanks!
  14. Surprised no one has mentioned Terminator Salvation, Cloverfield, Pacific Rim, Battle LA, Gravity, Hellboy II, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.....I could go on and on. I will say when I'm testing my system I throw in Tron Legacy or Avatar. But, Terminator Salvation will be my new test disk. Awesome LFE.
  15. I'm guessing he doesn't want a 3'x3'x2' box sitting in his room. I'm building a THT right now, and man is it big.
  16. Scrappy offered up some solid advise. However, if you don't want to go with an 18" driver - the DA RSS390HF-4 is a solid 15" driver for $173. This leaves $627 remaining for an amp and enclosure. Enclosure $90 plus shipping (the estimate to my house in MN was $23) Amp or Amp2 Personally I would go with the second amp choice and add a MiniDSP for $105. Why? Two reasons, it's quieter and built for HT subs. Although the iNuke gets lots of love also, and it's save you a lot of money. Either way, you can't go wrong. Total investment minus paint, PL Premium and speaker wire = $684 You could even build another matching sub and run it in parallel off the same amp. Paint, PL Premium and speaker wire will cost you less then $40. You save money. Painting is easy man, really. If you want a more durable finish look at Duratex. It'll cost you more, but looks really good.
  17. Old school Carvers are awesome. Might want to look into a MiniDSP, Behringer feedback destroyer, or something else that will allow you to manage response. Looks like your PC setup is really nice, so adding a MiniDSP and learning REW will be easy Oh, welcome to the forums
  18. That sucks Scrappy. I would be super annoyed and pissed also. I hope everything works out man.
  19. threadjack/ How many? Seriously, I built a fence last year and this was the worst part. Even with a good auger it sucked - of course a lot of the was plot of land our house sits on. /threadjack Back to subs.
  20. Sounds like a fun project. Look forward to seeing this come to life
  21. I'm going with the KISS principle. As you have another room for a theater, keep it nice a clean. I have a soundbar in our den and I like it. It's not my HT, but it's simple, sounds decent enough and makes my wife happy.

    SVS PB-2000

No worries. I was going off all the reviews I've read on the FV. Looking at the CEA you posted I can see where the PB excels. I've got two SVS's myself, and I love them. I'm in the 16hz and up boat, the sub I'm going to start building is a 20hz tune, with possible usable output down to 16hz. Obviously that is dependent upon the room and location. My reasoning behind my statements wasn't at all based on how well the FV did below 20hz vs the PB. I know there is some great LFE in the sub 16hz area, and having listened to scrappys 4 18's I know what that feels like. But, that isn't something I'm willing to chase, quite yet. Do what ever makes you happy. It's a hobby and everyone approaches it differently. For me, finding the sub(s) that give me everything I need for both movie and music is all I'm after.
