I have also been wondering about using the peizoelectric properties of hydrothermally grown quartz crystals. You could take a small diamond lapidary blade and cut to length and use them under every capacitor and I bet it would eliminate any ESR. I have not researched this but they have amethyst and citrine and clear colors. The Amethyst would have iron atoms in the crystal structure as this is what gives it it's color in addition to the piezoelectrical properties which might be a real game changer. I am not certain how you would align them for best effect but maybe if you marked them as you cut you could keep the crystal lattice aligned relative to each other for best effect.

Coytee the only current info I find shows three way Jubilees so maybe the two way is not an option anymore. The three way shows a 402 and 510 horn set on top. Two way was an option not to long ago though. A passive crossover on my MCM1900 bass bins and 402 horn did sound really good so yes they will work but not as well as actives.

The 1132's ARE the current two way system drivers and if you look at the Cinema line you will see that. I have 1132's on 402's for my two way system and they are stellar performers. You are going to have to go the electronic crossover DSP bi-amp route to make them really sing though. Those are most definitely not old stock.

It all depends on what gage wire is used for the amp build.

Moray clarified rotation I believe. I have probably gone through 10 sets of Chorus I's and II's now and ALL of them had real improvement with recapping. One other thing to check I forgot to mention is see that the magnet where the diaphragm voice coil goes is concentric with the magnet. If your magnet has shifted for some reason you need a new driver. I am thinking rotation will solve your problem though.

OK try this. I ordered a set of Ti tweeter ones from Bob and put them in a set of K-792's. For some reason I decided to run a sweep on them and one was great the other one barely audible. Well heck brand new so whats up? There were three detente knobs on the driver and I remember reading about guys who used a sweep generator to dial diaphragms in just right so I thought all i can do is rotate the bad one 120 degrees and see. Absolutely nothing and then I rotate it again and perfect and the two match by ear. I don't know which one was eccentric and maybe both were but rotation solved the problem. Perhaps this will work here too.

Jason are you fabricating the spacer or do you know where to buy one already done? You guys have talked me into trying these 15C's on my current LSI two piece rebuild project. I can sell the old K-43's for more than these will cost if they do all you guys say they will and I have no reason to doubt.

Good to hear and how many hours do you have on the DE-120's? They are nice drivers when fully broken in. That bigger lens cavity ought to help a lot too.

Great misleading comment. Based on manufacturing output and the quantity of pollution generated to do so the USA is far more efficient and less polluting. You can't go wrong changing old caps out. Even the cheapest Erse and Dayton poly caps are a big improvement over 30+ year old caps. Good advice and also check the banana plugs on the back to make sure your hookup is not just flopping around loose. Had a Chorus I recently that was really sour sounding but a recap fixed all that. That old you plan on doing it in any case because all of those old caps are out of spec and some of them probably badly so. Also loosen and re-tighten barrier strip screws if you have a crossover on a board. Take the spade ends and make sure they clamp tightly to the drivers and if they are loose take a pair of pliers to them and bend that little curved section closer to the back side of the spade end. Check solder joints to make sure they are good as I have seen some poorly done ones work loose. My favorite vintage speaker and well worth restoring and then upgrading.

Larger lens is right so unless you rebuild the top part of a La Scala you must use the smaller MAHL and DE120 on La Scalas. I did rebuild an LSI recently and made it a two piece (bass bin with 25mm Baltic Birch sides) so it could perform as a sort of test bed for using the larger MAHL + DE10 and also to build a two way with a horn similar to the K-510 to see how they do. I have done the K-400 + K-55-V soldered lug and large MAHL + DE10 so far and once I added an L-Pad to the DE10 it is the finest sounding LSI or La Scala I have ever heard. Stock AA build with zeners removed and Sonicaps on the crossovers so nothing fancy there. K-43's were reused since I prefer these over the K-33's. Never tried the woofer you guys are talking about so that will be next on the list to do.

And sometimes we rediscover that many speaker makers used to add L=Pads to tweak the tweeter to suit personal taste. I am in the camp that shrill on La Scalas for instance, once you have recapped the crossovers, that the K-77 tweeter is the biggest offender. New tweeters being more efficient may need to be dialed down with L-Pads but the ear peircing stuff goes away.

I am not a fan of Audyssey and it made things sound un-natural in my environment. A DBX Driverack Pro worked much better and far better yet a Xilica xp. Yeah room EQ can make a ton of difference.
