  1. I also find this hard to believe, but I was told by someone who works at best buy in the magnolia section that this is real. These upgraded power cables use solid copper instead of stranded copper. He had a Bowers and Wilkins portable 2 channel setup that he could demonstrate on. Supposedly, when you switch to the upgraded cable, the output volume increases (like when you a-b with more efficient speakers). He tried to demonstrate this for me, but the unit screwed up every time he unplugged power. I have no idea if it's real (doubt it), but that's what I've been told. I googled the cable company, it was something like $150 per 3ft power cable. I don't have bottomless pockets, so I wasn't trying it for myself.
  2. When I bought my klf 30s, the tweeter from one and a mid-range from the other didn't work. It turnrs out to be the crossovers. I replaced them with Crites crossovers and they sound great.
  3. I called a local vintage audio gear technician, and I'm bringing the receiver to get a quote tomorrow.

    What I Got Today!

It's a harman kardon fa3000x receiver. The tubes are push-pull 7408 (a 6v6 variant). I googled the tubes. I know nothing about tube gear as this is my first. I'm bringing it to a doctor tomorrow to see about getting a restoration. I paid $50 for the receiver.
  5. My guess is that it had never been restored. The guy had it playing when I got there. I picked it up for $50 with a cabinet/console thing, turntable (probably junk), and some realistic solo speakers. What is considered restoring the receiver, changing caps and tubes? How much am I looking at spending roughly?
  6. I am hoping someone here knows something about this receiver. This is my first tube amp. There is a bunch of switches I've never seen before. I think the model is fa3000x. I'll take anything info you have. Also how long are you supposed to let the tubes warm up before they hit their peak? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

  8. Does anyone have plans to the tangent 400 or the forte cabinets?
  9. I want to make something like a tangent 400 cabinet. I'm planning on trying the ports on the rear panel at first for trial. I was also thinking about putting a rear passive radiator instead of ports to see how that sounds.
  10. The tangent 400 uses heresy II drivers/crossovers. I have h700s (heresy I, essentially). I do not know how to "model" this, I don't even know what that means. Does it have something to do with software?
  11. I don't know anything about active crossovers. I feel like that is an entirely different rabbit hole to venture down and could get dangerous.
  12. The bidding was up to $500+, then he ended it early. He must have found someone to buy them outside of eBay.
  13. I have 2 questions. 1-can we still use tapatalk? It doesn't seen to work for me. 2-I usually only use the mobil website, is there a way when you go into a thread with something unread, can you get directly to the first unread post?
  14. I have a bunch of ideas that I want to try with building my own speakers. I have a pair of h700s from 1969. I was thinking about doing something like a tangent 400 which uses heresy ii parts with a lot more bass. My question is, do I need to change the crossover? The heresy cuts out at 50hz. Is that because of the cabinet or the crossover? Will the bigger/ported cabinet dig deeper in bass with the stock crossover?
  15. As of right now, he is strictly a 2 channel music guy. He and his son only listen to vinyl. That's unusual for a 19 year old. I know they listen to classic rock, not sure what else.
  16. http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/ele/5704233442.html Up for sale is a Klipsch SW10 II subwoofer in the light oak finish. It has a 10" woofer in front and a 12" passive radiator in the back. It works great, but I just don't have a need for it, since I own some bigger subwoofers. There are 2 spots on the top where it looks faded or something happened to the veneer's finish (see picture). $125 OBO. As always, special consideration for forum members. More photos in CL link
  17. Those amps are known for dying. Henry Koch is an awesome guy who rebuild these amps. You could buy a refurbished one from him, or send yours out to be fixed. I can't remember prices, but he it's pretty quick to return emails. htkclk@juno.com
  18. The buyer is coming Saturday to pick these up. He already has a pair of klf 10's, so he is really looking forward to doing an A-B comparison for himself on these. I told him he needs to join the forum. He has been checking it out lately, but hadn't joined as of yet.
