  1. I forget the actual tubes as I had one, and just sold it. There are 9 tubes total, and are extremely hard to find. If you open it up, they will have it right on them. 7189,12AX7,6an8 These are the replacements for it,if you are looking. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SANSUI-AU-70-Primo-Tube-Set-EL84-7189A-/190666309214?hash=item2c6498fe5e:m:mEidWpgAf_p9C9ZRv_9JY8g
  2. So far it sounds pretty nice, of course it still needs some time before it really opens up, but so far I like it. If you need a new needle, I have the original Super Track Plus you could have if it fits. Let me know and I can send it to you.
  3. Sorry I don't. I tried about 5-6 of the AT cartridges and wound up getting rid of them. I've tried a few in the 10**,11**,12** series. Maybe look at Jico's site for the SAS (Super Analog Stylus) for your Shure M97XE as well if you still have it.
  4. So I got my Jico SAS VN35E stylus in and just hooked it up to the Shure V15III on my Dual 701. Gonna have to play a few records to break it in and then compare to my Stanton 881S with D81S,Stanton 681 EEE with Jico D6800 Shibata, Ortofon OM40, and Ortofon VMS 30E MKII. Anyone else have the SAS, and approximately how long did it take to break in fully? The one thing I got lucky with, was the cartridge is the V-III LM model, and it came already set up in the Dual headshell for the 701. So it is already set up properly,no protractor needed.I just made sure it was set with the gram scale. From what I understand, they did this version specifically for Dual.
  5. The DL-110 will work on the table, I had it, but thought it was to laid back. Another member on here has it and loves it on 2 of his tables. Being it's high output MC it will work on a MM Phono Pre. Your receiver will work with it, but if you were to add on a MC/MM Phono Pre like a Cambridge Audio 651P, you'd be able to use both sides. And the Cambridge Audio is going for I think $169 on Accessories 4 Less and Ebay as well. I have the 551P and it's extremely quiet and puts out a 36db boost. The 651 does I think 36db in MM and 56/60 db in MC. If you do decide to do the Denon, get it through Ebay and direct from Japan, $174.99 and free shipping with a 14 day return policy, no questions asked. I just returned mine about 9 days ago. I personally thought my Ortofon Super OM40, Ortofon VMS 30E MKII,Stanton 681EEE, Stanton 881S sounded much better than the Denon, but that's just me. Krispy Kirk is the other member who had the Denon. You can ask him what he likes about it. Also, maybe look at the Shure V15 with a VN35E stylus. I just purchased the Shure V15III VN35E and am getting the Jico SAS VN35E stylus with it as an add on. I have been told it has a little more pop than the M97XE But definitely go through Ebay if you don't mind them as the price is probably the cheapest you'll find and it has a return policy with no added fees.
  6. You should be able to polish up the platter some as well. Are you going to put the original feet back on,or get upgrades as well? Some nice over sized feet would be real nice. I can help you spend money for upgrades if you'd like, lol. What cartridge are you going to be using on it when finished? Unfortunately, Dual tables are very bland with their cheap plinths. I thought of getting upgraded ones built.
  7. The Blue is nice. Are you going to leave it like that, or do a high gloss? I redid my 2 plinths on my Dual 1229Q and Dual 701. The 1229Q I redid in a high gloss black, and the 701 was done in Mahogany stain and then a high gloss clear coat. I may get another 1 or 2 plinths and try the candy apple red now after more thought, or some other really funky color. The picture isn't really good as it was taken at night on my camera, but here they are.
  8. guess she had a problem getting her car to start. wouldn't turn over for he?
  9. Try the RED or Blue. Or for about half the price try the Ortofon OM20. Same goes with stylus upgrade. I'd get a protractor, and gram scale as well to fine tune everything.
  10. How abut a nice high gloss black, or even a nice Mahogany with a high gloss clear? Or a wild candy apple red or green?
  11. Leave it to Cindy and the "female ear" for a reply like this.
  12. I own the receiver as well and can attest to how good it sounds. You can also add in an external amp to get 9 channel output to form a 9.2 channel set up. That's how I have mine set up. Great price for that as well.
  13. SOLD !!!! The vestal virgin is still being groomed, so it may take awhile.
  14. Also Good, but sometimes more pricey.I've used them for numerous things as well.
  15. John, I have used Ebay, Facebook, and also forums for those particular tables and Youtube. For a bunch of the vintage gear, belts are interchangeable, cartridges are easily found if you don't go the route of original, headshells are also found on Ebay. For the Technics, try KABUSA.COM and speak to Kevin. He dopes everything Technics and also deals in other parts, carts, headshells, upgrades, and other things. Jim
  16. Looks like a scam email, they are never written correct, and are usually run on sentences worse than I do.
  17. I have an Ortofon OM30 stylus I purchased new with the OM30 Cartridge. I upgraded the stylus to the OM40, so this was put aside. It has less than 25 hours on it. This would be comparable to the 2M Bronze with the 2M series. I will also throw in a JICO OM30 Stylus for free if this sells, as I won't need it. It is also in great condition and has about 40 hours on it.
  18. I'm looking to sell my Ortofon OM40 Cartridge. It is in great condition and is used. The OM Series is comparable to the 2M Series. The OM40 would be comparable to the 2M Black. Shipping is included in the price.
  19. So I A/B'd the tables and my 1229 was the same as the AR, the 701 outperformed it though. I used the same carts on both tables, cables, phono pre, weight, amp,and records (Breakfast In America I have doubles in it). I was surprised a little as the AR is an ES-1. Everyone clamors about AR, so I thought it was going to outperform the Duals. Good for me. I took his AR and lubed and cleaned it up before doing anything. If you do get the AR, there's two guys online that do custom plinths, both do a lot of AR plinths and from pictures show excellent workmanship. One runs about $250, the other $50.00 to start.
  20. I've been toying with trying the Shure and getting the SAS stylus from Jico. I just redid the weight on the Stanton 681EEE and it sounds better than the Ortofon does now. I was tracking at 1.5 grams and just lowered it to .85 grams and with the shibata stylus it sounds so much better now. The stylus also must have broken in a little better as well. There's no shrill sound coming from it at high listening levels and it has opened up even more than it was when tracking heavier. I had also purchased a Stanton 881S with the original stylus, and that even lacks against the 681EEE with the Jico shibata. I know the 881 is supposed to be a better cart, but it lacks against that Jico. When I got my 701 and 1229 done, they were done by a guy who only does Dual tables out of Iowa, and he recommended the 681 with the Jico Shibata against almost every other cartridge that people have used, except the Grado Reference. He even said the 681 would sound better then the 881. So I tried it out and at 1st wasn't thrilled, but since it has opened up, have been liking it more. With the Ortofon carts I have, they are nice, but the bass lacks slightly against the Stanton. I'm still going to play with the Ortofon's weights and see what I can come up with. I'm also looking at potentially doing another MC cart. Maybe a low output. Or a Clearaudio performer v2 Ebony. Someone recommended it saying it was a good cartridge. The Denon was already sent back to Japan, and I'm also getting ready to send this Stanton 881S back as well. I purchased it with a 14 day return policy, so it's not a loss either. I have a friend who just purchased a VPI table new, and an AR table. I'm going to do an A/B test with them and my Duals. I just hope I don't get caught up in chasing a sound I can't get instead of just enjoying things.
  21. How much are they asking for the table? It's not bad if under $125.00. Should be a step up from your table. What's your budget?
  22. I was trying to get one, and it turned out to be more of a pain than it was worth for the wait time to get it redone, so I use a Yaqin MC-10L Integrated, Maynard's 7 WPC SEP, and a soon to be SET again. Depending on my mood for music and volumes or critical listening, I like switching back and forth on them. Now if I could find a Scott, Fisher, I'd do one of those.
  23. When I first got my table after getting back into vinyl, I was using my Yamaha RX-A2020 and felt it lacking, then I bought the phono pre and it opened up and sounded a lot better, then added in a tube amp, and it got even better. Now I run a separate 2 channel set up altogether from the AVR. You won't be disappointed in an external phono pre set up either way.
