  1. Let the AVR do the decoding not the player. At that point the AVR is doing everything from decoding the raw stream to distribution and amplification. Good tip. And also the best way.
  2. Central MN eh? I would guess we can't be too far apart then...I'm in Sauk Rapids... Edina, just a few mins south of Minneapolis.
  3. STOP FEEDING MY HT ADDICTION!! Nice article man. Good info.
  4. Love 'em...wouldn't switch them out for anything. Everyone loves the gear they own, so take it with a grain of salt, but I've been really impressed. I've heard nearly all the reference surrounds, and almost pulled the trigger on some RS-62s before I finally found these...I'd say they're one of the better surrounds that Klipsch has made. They are very hard to find...but, if you're patient they do come up here and there. The nice thing is, since they're almost 20 years old now, they can be had fairly reasonably. If you're ever up this way, you're welcome to stop in and listen for yourself. I make the same offer kapsnb01. I am in central MN. If anyone wants to hear the New Reference Premeir series, stop on by. We can private message address and maybe you will like how they sound.
  5. Hey bud. Saw you are looking at SC-91. I have it and am very happy. Please take a look at my current two posts in this thread. May help you. Only thing missing is DTS-X. That's really it. Has enough channels for me. D3 Amp, wifi, and all a that.
  6. It is a great choice. But...Is wi-fi a need? What is your current system setup? Getting bigger speakers? I posted about the mid-line SC-91 I have, and it has ATMOS, and 7.2 vs the 9.2. Does that matter? You are looking into a higher price point, and if you are going to expand, those are a few questions you should ask yourself. That way you aren't re-buying 6 months from now. Tech always changes, but you can minimize obsolescence if you know what direction your system is headed in. I really hope that helped a bit. Always good to ask a few questions.
  7. I just picked up the Pioneer Elite SC-91. Aside from not having DTS-X, it had everything else. Here is the breakdown including 4k60p Chroma 4:4:4 passthrough and upconversion. I am very happy with it even though it doesn't have DTS-X. Of course, it is middle of the pack as far as Elite Series goes, but it has more than enough power. And D3 quality amp. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Elite+Receivers/SC-91
  8. What is this money thing you speak of? Never heard of it... Once upon a time I had some dollars...Then I found Klipsch...Now I have the best sound...And no dollars.
  9. I agree with IbizaFlame. Please really take a long look around the for sale areas in multiple forums within this community. The Best Buy speakers just won't have the best life expectancy. If you are going to pay, used yet a higher quality line is the way to go IMO. There are deals on older Reference and such that could in theory last nearly a life-time and be within your budget.
  10. Haven't been here long, but here is a fun breakdown of my old vs new 1995: 2 KLH 8" 3-way bookshelf yahama RX-V1 100x5 1996: Added 2 DCM KX Series 2 12" No Center 2010: Added RC-62 II Early August 2015: STEPPED UP MY GAME!!! Purchased Klipsh Reference Premeir Dual 8" Fronts R-115SW RP-160M's for Surround. ***See my post signature for the rest of the system. It has really evolved.***
  11. Most of us have posted suggestions. It is up to you good sir to pull the trigger on something you like. I would look for something used but higher end than r28f. Troll the other Klipsch forums, there is a ton of stuff for sale. You may have some really good luck.
  12. In the end, we all have different interests and such. I don't care if people think my interest in sound and video is silly. ***Thank you for posting the article. Thought provoking read. I finished it all.***
  13. Such a nice system. Sad to see it being sold.
  14. I declare movie/music night at derrickdj1's place upon completion of the project. J/k. Very nice build and thank you for sharing your progress. When complete, we may be able to hear you no matter how far away we are.
  15. I to use a RedMere cable, which if you do not know what that is, it is active, or uses a chip to 'boost' the signal over long runs. Been using 50' for about two years now. JEFKlipsch said it - hard to beat the price.
  16. I was only speculating. But it would not be helpful if moisture got in there. And CECAA850 is also correct, 20 years of service and moving and such is a really good life expectancy. I don't know supercooldude, it may be time to retire your venerable sub and think about another one. I hate to just through this one out, do you think it has any value? -s Well I am by no means a technician. So I couldn't even tell you that it is broken or not. There happen to be different levels of tech heads and such everywhere. Attempt to sell it cheap if you feel that is what you want. As you know, forums are just a place to pass ideas and some knowledge. For all any of us know, just tapping the back of the panel, or jiggling a wire could temp fix it. In the end, the choice is yours sir. Best of luck.

  18. 20 years for a Klipsch sub amp is excellent service. True. Didn't mean to sound like I was purposely contradicting you. Sorry if I came off that way. Just wanted to explore possibilities.
  19. Getting some sound, albeit unhealthy, does not necessarily mean the amp went to crap. CECAA850, think it could be corrosion on the RCA Line input, perhap even inside the enclosure. That much travel and dust and such, something, e.g. moisture, dust, both may have gotten in there. Even 20 years ago, green light means power, so I am hesitant to think amp right away. That's why I wanted him to try a different source and cable. I wonder...since he tried a different cable if you aren't right and the amp decided to take a vacation. Darn, I hope that isn't the case.

  21. What exactly were you playing? Click on this and you will hear it, but not hear the low low bass frequencies There are a few things. First, hearing even muffled voices from the sub is a partial but not huge problem. Did your crossover on either your receiver or back of the sub get set to near max (usually around 160Hz)? That will allow some muffled sounding 'voices' to come through. Two, check the 'LFE Out' or 'pre-amp out' on the back of the receiver. Is it loose or corroded? I would not recommend running straight sound from any device, try to use only LFE low frequency e.g. LFE Output.
  22. What can I say..I walk the dangerous road. LOL
  23. With respect, if your discount is cheaper than Monoprice, I will be surprised.
