  1. Prayers sent for your family and daughter.
  2. You are correct. My mistake, I confused exit with the actual driver size. Makes it a lot easier for it to have a response of 500-20,000 if desired.
  3. If I lived there, they would already be in the car.
  4. If you don't get local interest, I'd be interested in the 450c if you'd ship.
  5. There is a lot of snake oil out there, that's for sure! I know I'm already breaking "audiophile" rules by having horns in all my systems!
  6. Has anyone here tried replacing the stock metal jumpers on their speakers and seen any results? It seems a lot of "audiophiles" swear by replacing the metal straps with high quality cable. Since I have some extra 12-gauge speaker wire, I figure I'll give it a try and just make jumpers with that. ...Not sure this will make any difference whatsoever since the straps are probably the same material as the binding posts, but it's free.
  7. Just curious - more colorful as in less accurate, or meaning more body/fullness?
  8. I've seen some opinions that the 1" tweeter can't compete with the 1.75". My 19s have a 1" compression driver that sounds extremely smooth, goes down to 1200hz, and extends quite high...albeit a much bigger horn than either the 280 or the 7ii.
  9. I've looked around and no one seems to carry the RF-7ii to audition. I bought the RP-280F for my TV/movies but I also listen to music fairly regularly in there as well. Reading a whole bunch of discussions, some vote for the 280 over the 7s, and some say 7s over the 280s. I'd really like to be able to hear them for myself to see what they are like. Anyone in CT want to offer an audition?
  10. Why must everyone push in dust caps!?

I think that album has my favorite versions of a lot of his songs.
  12. Yep, the 19s are two way. Probably the best two way I have ever heard. PWK always wanted the klipschorn to be a 2 way, which is why he made the jubilee. (I've never heard the jubilee so no one start stoning me please)
  13. I actually see a lot of those Altec 19's on eBay, How are they, how do they compare to the La Scala? Personally, I prefer the 19s, but it really comes down to what sound you like. I thoroughly enjoy them both. Both will have more power than you'll ever need in a home and both will create a tremendous soundstage. I am in CT as well.
  14. I wouldn't trade those RPs for anything less than Fortes. Heresy's remind me of the little axe-wielding dwarf from Lord of the Rings. Heresy 1's have the same tweeter and mid range as a Cornwall or Belle. Put them with a good horn loaded sub and they will sound better than Forte' and definitely better than any of the new stuff. Roger Have you heard the new stuff properly set up? They sound different, but I wouldn't say that the old stuff is just better. I've got 280s, Heresy III, Quartets, and Altec 19s. The Altecs win, but the 280s are enjoyable in a different way. Between the 3 Klipsch models, I wouldn't say that there is a clear winner and I've had some people at my house choose the 280s over the heritage.
  15. You will definitely enjoy the sounds of a BIG horn. While not the La Scala, I've got a pair of Altec 19s which have the 811 horn. You will be amazed at the presence a big horn can give. The Chorus are most definitely nice, but aren't really a fair comparison for the big horn models.
  16. Actually, I love the way the Heresies look. They are so ugly that they are cool and they make me smile every time I see them. As far as sound goes, it's much different than the RP and they have a soul that the new ones just don't seem to have. Which one is better is up to you. Heresies are definitely worth a listen but I wouldn't say they will blow yours away.
  17. I did a review of the RP 280 vs Heresy and Quartet if you'd like to take a look. RP-280F vs Quartet vs Heresy III https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/162578-RP-280F-vs-Quartet-vs-Heresy-III
  18. No love for upgraded Quartets? The updated crossovers/tweeters alone cost $344.
  19. Ok, I couldn't help myself and read more. If it is 1/6 space plus room gain, that could be 9.5-11.5db increase in sensitivity over anechoic. (7.5db increase for 1/6 space and between 2-4db for room) Some manufacturers rate their speakers anechoic, so if I saw 88db anechoic, is that basically the same as the 280s in-room spec of 98?
  20. Wow! Thank you. That's the first official response I've seen. Since most of us use our speakers in a room, the sensitivity specs are about what should be expected. I assume 1/6 space would translate to a wall, floor, and a ceiling/side walls somewhat near by. It appears that Klipsch speakers can be compared to each other for sensitivity. As far as comparing other brands, it won't make much sense since it isn't specified how they are measured. I would bet that most brands do an in-room measurement though. For most purposes, a "full space" measurement wouldn't be too helpful. I'm still going to hold firm that Klipsch are much more sensitive than most other speakers, based on my experiences.
  21. I know there are plenty of conversations going around whether the reference series is measured accurately or not. Just wanted to share my experience with the RP-280F. This isn't what you'd call scientific, but a pretty good indication for me. I tested this with Quartets and RP-280F. Ratings: Quartets: 97.5db RP-280F: 98db I hooked up my Quartets to an NAD T758 and matched all speakers to 75db on the test tone with an SPL meter (it actually settled at about 75.6). They ended up at -8db from the amp settings. I then hooked up the RP-280 and had expected I'd have to re-do all the settings. Played the test tones, and the SPL meter mostly settled on 76.1db without adjusting anything. Since there is a bit of fluctuation with the test tones, I left all settings the same. What's my point? It seems the specs are rather accurate based on my tiny bit of testing. So if the reference series has any inflated specs, so did the Quartets.
  22. I actually just got an NAD T758 for my 280s. Much warmer than the previous Denon I had.
  23. Depending on the specs of the driver, couldn't sealing it up potentially make the driver operate outside of its range and cause damage? If it is meant for a ported enclosure and is now sealed, damping properties are going to be significantly different. Obviously I don't know anywhere near as much as a lot on this forum, but that would make me slightly nervous on a very nice sub.
