  1. Why do you need 100-120? I happen to have mine hooked up to 105, but it's certainly not needed. I have my Heresy hooked up to 30 and that's more than I'll ever need. Good quality amps will produce quality sound. Unless you will be really blasting them or need enormous headroom, I'm not sure why 100-120 has to be met. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I just got the 280 a couple days ago. I'm going to be writing a full review, but it is already apparent that they will tell you what you put in to them. Careful with your pairing of amp, they will tell you if you if it's good or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Still waiting to make judgements. Both I and my wife remarked they sounded warmer the second day of play. I know some don't subscribe to break-in, but for moving parts such as woofers, I definitely think it's a real thing, so I want to give them a fair shot against speakers that have had ~25 years of music. They will also be going against a set of Heresy III that I've had for about a year. I'm very interested in how those two compare since the Heresy has the newly designed crossover and new parts, but the old design. I can say that the dispersion and sweet spot are much wider than that of the quartets. They are also incredibly smooth, and are astonishingly clear at any volume I've yet played. I'll be working on taking some detailed pictures with a full description once they are broken in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What I Got Today!

Is the new RP horn an adaptation on those mumps? (Also what I happened to get today...er, yesterday.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Why are those for sale again??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Please excuse the mess...there's a battle here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Just wanted to do a quick update. Thank you again for the prayers and support, it means more than I can express. Had an additional ultrasound. The baby's heart, brain, and everything look healthy and developing well. It looks like he will have 2 fingers a little down from the elbow on each arm. This should make it a little easier for a lot of tasks that could be imagined. Most importantly, he appears healthy. This forum has been awesome for advice on speakers, upgrades, and audio knowledge. Having posted this, it has also been a refuge for me and I am forever grateful. Thank you for your support and I will be here for a long time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. They arrived. First impressions: Why must I like all Klipsch speakers???? I'm going to create a new topic to post my review and impressions. I want to let these break in before I make decisions. I also want to do a test against the Quartets and Heresy III. ...and for anyone that is concerned Klipsch inflates their sensitivity specs, put those cares away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Has anyone seen this before? I just had to post this. http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-LightSpeaker-5-2-2-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B0036OR7XK
  10. Does anyone know if the sizes that Klipsch list for the 280 are with or without the bottom base?
  11. I've always wanted to hear the A7, but was able to get a set of 19s instead. The 19s are essentially the home version of the VOTT. The earlier versions have the 416-8b and 802-8g both with Alnico magnets. They were labeled as studio monitors and have an optimized cabinet, and phase plug for the compression driver. With the changes, the 19 ended up at ~100db, and can extend both lower (30hz) and higher (20khz) than the A7. The crossover is set to 1200hz where the woofer and horn have the same dispersion characteristics. Although not fully horn loaded, it's said that the 19s are much more balanced and a better speaker. Everyone's tastes vary, but the point of that description is that if you are considering A7 for the home, you may want to check out the 19.
  12. So I decided to give it a shot and ordered the 280. It's really up to my wife on which pair stays...I won't be able to keep both. I'll keep you guys updated on the comparison because there will be an A/B test. The Quartets may be coming to a garage sale section near you, even though they are awesome and I would love to keep both. Fully updated and in great shape, so I'm not sure how I feel about this. 14. Speaking of RF-63's and RP's, I think Klipsch should build an RP-360F with three 6.5" woofers and a 1.25" titanium compression driver(RP tractrix) with real wood veneer. As far as keeping Quartets, put them in a small stereo rig in your man space and please the bride with some nice new modern RP-280Fs in the common(her) space. Bill Man space is covered...so I guess she could win this one. I mean, I'm not really losing...SHE suggested I get NEW Klipsch. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thank you for the responses. Some great info here. Moray, you mentioned that the 4 8" woofers are about equal to 3 10". Do the 12" passives on the Quartet count towards this, or are they basically equal to the port of the 280? I also agree that 2 ways can sound better integrated especially in normal home listening distances. I just don't want to sacrifice midrange detail. 1750hz as the crossover just sounds like there is a big chunk of midrange not covered by the horn...but paper specs generally don't mean much for the final product. 16. Fantastic response! Don't worry, still have The Heresy and Altec 19s, so not all my speakers will be skinny. ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Curious to opinions on this... I currently have a set of Quartets with titanium tweeters and updated crossovers. I'm considering building stands for them to get the horns up to ear level...or trying the new RP280f. My wife likes the idea of the 280 since they are more modern looking...she really doesn't like the look of the Quartets. Do the 280s compare or come close to the Quartets? I have nowhere to audition these, or the RF-7ii, but I think the 7 is a bit out of my price range. Would I regret the change? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. You make good points. I'd be interested to see how many people are buying Klipsch's smaller offerings vs Heritage or Jubilee - if the larger ones are close in sales, that would be amazing. Personally, I see most commentary on tall(ish) and thin speakers with small drivers. I wonder why there aren't many dealers. At least near me, I cannot find a single place to hear any of their offerings above the Reference line (not reference premiere). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Happy Birthday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I don't think Klipsch has abandoned their routes, as evidenced by the Heritage line still alive and kicking. However, they must face the environment that they are in - consumers want small speakers that blend in with the background or those that are portable. I think the "Reference Premiere" line strikes a pretty good balance between those of us that understand the merits of large speakers, and those that must have small format speakers. (I haven't heard those speakers, but talking about the actual design.) Those floor standers are still considered "big" by today's standards, have pretty good efficiency (98db), and dig pretty deep, with what is probably significantly less distortion than many other companies. Along with a lot of others here, I would hope that Klipsch comes out with a properly large, low distortion design, but the market just isn't there anymore. Those that buy refrigerator-size speakers these days feel that "Klipsch" isn't a high-end name and will disregard it, which baffles me. This is probably due to a lot of the audiophile mumbo jumbo and their general distaste for horns because they were told they were "honky." Anyone who I have played my systems for have been absolutely blown away by the sound. Unfortunately, there is no exposure to these types of things anymore. People want their houses bigger and bigger, but want their TVs paper thin and their speakers invisible.
  21. I have heard the 2000. Definitely not a fan. To me, they sounded muffled and very recessed. They are very mellow sounding, and take a lot of power. The ones I heard are only 88db, so quite a bit different than what Klipsch provides. I guess for background music or if you aren't really paying much attention, they are enjoyable, but I couldn't get into it if I wanted to just sit and listen.
  22. He actually met PWK and Paul told him to read Bell Labs papers of 1932. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. "The <brand model> speaker ushers in a new era in music reproduction. For the first time, listeners can enjoy the audiophile dream of the most natural sound, highest level of detail, and spacious sound, with the awesome impact, deep bass, lightning fast speed, and ultra-wide dynamic range that can only be achieved by new speaker technology using very high efficiency drivers." - from this particular manufacturer's product page. I just thought some here may get a kick out of the description. I removed the brand name to not call out the particular speaker, but that is the actual copy. How can they possibly write this is a new technology? I thought it may have been written that new technology is separate from high efficiency, but I found another description that points directly at the high efficiency drivers as being new tech.
