  1. Question on this guy. How do you connect the wire to these types of banana plugs? I have a few rat shack ones where you put the wire through the hole then clamp the screw down into it...
  2. I have 5 RF-3II's for my system. I currently have my center floorstander on it's side, with the horn pretty well lined up right towards the prime viewing spot in the room, although it is about a foot or more higher than where the listener is when sitting. It is not tilted down in any way towards the listening area. Just kinda sits there. What would be the benefits (and dangers!) of moving that horn 90 degrees? I would think it would lead to better musical dispersion since the floorstander was designed to be standing up, not on its side. What possible damage could I do to the speaker? I'm worried about the internal wiring becoming tangled or detached if I turn the horn. I'm also not so sure if this will invalidate my warranty. I would like your guys' opinion on the possible benefits of this change. Your recommendations. Anything!

Bookends? ---------------- LOL. Sorry. Mainly for just listening to 2-channel music. He hardly as the time to watch any movies, etc. So I'm looking for a setup that will be really good for music. And Klipsch might not be the brand...
  4. The thing is that he really is the kind of guy to go 'new'. I doubt he would ever want to go with used, especially online. Looking for 'new' speaks.
  5. My uncle has finally had his pair of speaks (don't know if they were JBL or something) of over 15 years die out on him. He hadn't used them in a while and the speaker has basically decomposed probably due to sunlight, etc. Anyways, he wants a new pair of speaks, mainly for listening. He has a JVC 2 channel receiver that he is not changing. Basically his budget is $600 firm. And he is basically looking at 2 speakers only (no sub), so floorstanding might be best IMO. I know we are on the Klipsch forum and there will be many mentions of Klipsch. I'd also like to hear about other speaks such as Paradigm, Energy, etc that would fit his price range. He does NOT have the ability to go more than $600, so please do not suggest anything that would be more. My local dealer sells the RF-35's for $1000/pair, which makes those not a possibility. Thanks guys!
  6. Wow wheelman, I thought the opposite would be true.
  7. Size is definitely a concern in a dorm room, so full floorstanding speakers are probably completely out. I agree with the idea of bookshelfs instead. I do not know prices very well, but how interested are you in getting a full 5 channel? If you would rather have some very good quality fronts and then worry about surrounds later, do you guys think he could fit the RB-75's in his budget? I don't know the MSRP on those speaks... But definitely get a nice sub if you are going to be going with bookshelves. They will be pulling quite a bit since you won't be having the floorstanders.
  8. Picky-picky: Do yourself a favor and pickup Queens of the Stone Age - songs for the deaf
  9. Call the dealer first thing tomorrow morning, right when they open. Do not let them stop you from getting your due service. You have been displaced for well over a month now (close to 2?) and that is totally not acceptable. Ask the tech for the Pioneer contact, you should be given that. If not, call Pioneer's support line. Rattle a few people. It is not fair and makes me so angry argh!!!
  10. James, These days you really have to get on people's butts to get what you want. You really need to speak up and tell them how unsatisfied you are with the fact that your problem is not being solved. They have had MORE than enough time to figure it out. You need to get a hold of the manufacturer and the dealer and get new units out to you. After about 4 weeks of no real movement on my problem AVR 525, I started shouting (not literally) and getting on people's butts. I think H/K got tired of hearing from me and sent me not only a new receiver, but an upgrade. Light a fire under someone's ***. !!!You paid for your equipment and now are not receiving anything for it when the gear is constantly in the shop!!!
  11. I fell asleep watching the first one, so I haven't really seen any in the trilogy. Movies just naturally make me sleepy. Dunno why.
  12. It's something that I've thought about several times in the past whenever things got out of hand here on the board. Wouldn't help if this forum was gone and then trying to set it up. LOL. If you need some help, I might be able to provide assistance. In fact I think I can find a host that would be FREE for 3 years. I also know some good forum software.

Is that my only qualification to be here? LOL! What happened to us? Is it that the high freqs (or are we just plain freaks) in our hearing are gone and only Klipsch does it for us? Or does it have to do with money? ---------------- We do have a few youngins on this forum. I'm 23.
  14. I vary the volume for music from about -40 all the way down to -5 when I really want to party. For 5 channel movie (Dolby II) I usually go around -10. I have noticed that HK's seem to run warmer than other receivers, make sure to give that 525 plenty of breathing room. I wouldn't place anything on top of it just because i'm a worry-wart about electronics in general... When I had the 525 I do remember the default volume being set to -25, although everytime I turned on my unit it was at -80 which is the volume I set whenever I turned it off..
  15. What makes the all-weather speakers so safe from the rain and outside weather, and our home theater speakers so not-safe? Is it the way the speaker box is designed and thus keeps the rain out? Are the wires tucked differently? Are the components different? Just a question that popped into my head the other day...

    RF-35

They are more towards the bottom third of the entire speaker. You have a few inches of MDF, then you reach the port hole, and then above that some ways is the posts. I would say over a foot, but less than 2 feet up. Definitely below the center of the floorstander.
  17. I posted a similar question nearly one year ago... http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=32689&forumID=74&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={0B70F8F2-084E-433F-8169-D9BC24DD0101}> The Post

I have the receiver on the very top of my entertainment center. When not in use, a board covers the top of the receiver. I do this to avoid dust getting into the unit. I have not experienced any other receivers so I can't make a comparison like Fish did. But I am happy with the 630. Getting back to OP topic: I would work with H/K some more. It took a bit of prodding to get them to replace my 525, but when they did they did it in a big way. Free upgrade to a new 630. That month of hell with no receiver paid off. Do NOT give up on H/K. Call them and tell them your problems. Do not give up! You have paid good money and expect a great product in return. They care about their name and should be able to help you.
  19. I would like to add FIGHT CLUB. Try 2 scenes: 1. The one where Edward Norton's character prays for a plane crash in mid-air (maybe 8th scene or so?). The surrounds are especially bass heavy! 2. Final scene when Edward Norton pulls the trigger (don't want to give away the ending though).

  21. This is a good question. I want to say it is the components that make up the two different types of speakers, but I am unsure. Generally almost all members would agree that most Reference sounds better than any Synergy. However, I can not tell you my thoughts because I have never heard the SF-3. But I will tell you that the sound of the RF-35's are amazing! Bumping this one up for someone else to chime in ...
  22. My music varies a bit day to day but... I've always been a Corgan fan, so I'm big into Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan. Like Nirvana, Garbage, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hole (Courtney Love), Weezer, Sarah McLachlan, Disturbed, Shakira (LOL!, but serious), Oasis, Alice in Chains, did I say Smashing Pumpkins? So pretty much a grunge, alternative kick for the most part. Nothing too hardcore metal at all. Some slower, acoustical sappy music on a few days.
  23. I've heard great things about jazz and Klipsch speakers, and now I want to find out what it is all about. I'm asking you guys what jazz cds you would recommend for a jazz-genre newb? I am going to be going to a large public library sometime this week where they have stock fulls of jazz cds. So you might want to weigh-in with some popular titles (less rarities) or some well known names.
  24. I too am looking into front projection (hopefully have my first front projector by Christmas this year), and have found that both of those units are excellent. Have you ever been to AVSForum.com ? Tons of information on that site and would get you a better response. Also, you might want to put down what your budget is, size of screen, distance from screen, % main uses (dvd/video games/pc etc) so everyone can lead you to make a choice. I know it's going to be difficult for me as well. Let me know what you end up going with and from what distributor. PS have you even begun looking into screens as well? Going the DIY route?
