  1. approved For updating the crossovers with new capacitors , the KLIPSCH genuine parts are available from JEM and they do not cost more than aftermarkets , these original parts do not change the sound of the Lascala at all while aftermarkets will because they are not of identical specs to the older capacitors
  2. On most of the time, but there are times when the mood strikes me and off they come.
  3. This is a very strange issue. But as for shorting the speaker terminals – that in itself will not hurt the speakers in any way. The concern would be that if the “shorting wires” were left on when the amp is powered up of course.
  4. Thanks for the part number, maybe I will have better luck with it.
  5. I did inquire about six months ago pointing out that very thing and they told me that there wasn't a woofer available for the klf-30s.
  6. Virtually all of the KLF and as I understand the same for the CF lines parts are no longer available.
  7. Yep. What is there to lose for trying?
  8. If I were to punt, I would go with a pair of forte II's as a great starting point. If you look at the KG line (4.x or 5.x) you should expect to pay under $400/pr. Anything more and you could get a much better speaker for that kind of money.
  9. Where do you live? What kind of music do you like? If at all possible try to listen to a few different models before hand, maybe a member or two could let you let your ears steer you towards what you like in a speaker.
  10. That stuff just happens sometimes. I have had my share of slip-ups too.
  11. PWK had a rather complex circuit design to build decades ago for this - maybe a member here has this info to share. Otherwise you would need a system that has an actual center channel output. You will not be able to make a two channel system accept a center channel as is.
  12. This xover looks to be an exact clone of my 2nd xover build. It was for a set of T5000s and to go through such detail as to use 16ga buss wire for the common negative “spine” down the middle. The Solen paralleled 1.0 & .22 uF caps for the mids and even the same wrong (backward) wiring of the tweeter wires. I am flattered for someone to copy it so accurately.
  13. There are many options that you can take, but this can be one of those hotly debated topics. The recently touted JEM 'Klipsch approved' caps that will keep your Klipsch speakers all Klipsch. Then there is the entry level class of Dayton, Solen & Audyn Q4s, Crites offerings and then there are the high end caps that can go into hundreds of $$$ too.
  14. I am genuinely curious about this. What is the “voltage transfer curve “ in a polyester cap that differs from other types of caps? What I mean is is it faster/slower, more linear or logarithmic or something else? If it were to be plotted what might one expect to see different over other types of capacitors? I want to clarify, I am asking here in general and not looking for a lengthy drawn out technical post explanation of this.
  15. Capacitors do have a finite lifespan.
  16. What was the price for the AA kit if you don't mind me asking.
  17. I can relate to your wanting a center channel. Having a matching center for a set of klf-30s (klf-c7) and then trying to listen with a pair of LaScalas without a center I find it sorely lacking. Bad enough that I will keep the klf setup dedicated to HT duty since there is no chance of being able to use a full size speaker in that position.
  18. What model speaker could have a lot to do with what you may or may not be able to get with out a ser#.
  19. My klf-30s sound very good in my house in North Carolina but when I brought them down to the Florida house they sound quite a bit better to my surprise. I guess the point I am trying to make is where you have your speaks can greatly effect how they might sound. The two rooms these speakers are/were in are very different even though the overall cubic volume of space were similar. And yes, all of the same electronic gear was also moved to the new location.
  20. Aside from physical damage - caps would be the only thing that you may want to update/refresh.
  21. No Scott, just using a metaphor so don't get your knickers twisted. Thinking we should be taking small(er) steps at a time so as to better learn as we go.
  22. That is all I use, but there will be others that may demand boutique type solder with things like high silver content.
  23. Thanks for the offer, at some point we might take you up on that. But to jump up to that level out of the gate could easily pollute our efferts. Once you taste the proverbial champagne & caviar it is hard to go back to cheap beer & hotdogs.
