    For Sale

JBL 4638 from the JBL tent sale that happened a year ago. The specs can be found at this address http://www.jblpro.com/pages/cinema/lfsub.htm#4638 At the moment it is on ebay, the only problem is I have no means of shipping it. So you would need to be near Seattle and able to come get it. If it doesn't go on ebay I would sell for $200. It is in mint condition and only hooked up to amp for mabey an hour total. It was just a lil too much for my small living area in my apt. Any questions you can email evldor@speakeasy.net Thanks Mike
  2. Yes the 8200 has large/small settings for all speakers, as well as a THX setting which auto sets all the speakers. Also has max sub output setting so distortion is avoided, along with quite a few other set up features. You can assign the dig optical/coax inputs to certain devices or set to auto-detect also.
  3. Also about accesseries4less, I bought a VC5200 5 disc dvd from them and it works great and came without a scratch on it 8)
  4. I have the SR-8200 and have had zero problems. It sounds wonderful, picked it over the denon and yamaha I listened to previous. Also the 8200 and 9200 are made in Japan and the 7200 and under are made in China or Korea(can't remember which)The reference models are prolly made in Japan too. Build quality on Japanese made merchandise is usually a lil better then the other 2 places, so thats something to consider too.

  6. Star Wars Phantom Menace, pod race scene is a good reference for a dd 5.1 system. This message has been edited by Maximo on 05-06-2002 at 10:40 AM
  7. How about a lighted fiber optic type sign, to set on the center or av rack.
  8. Here is a link(mabey not active on the board though), to a place that sells refurbished Marantz stuff. I have bought a VC-5200 progressive scan dvd player from them and it was in perfect condition, and sounds wonderful for both dvds and music. Very sharp picture, and thats without progressive scan on. Anyway check em out I think they are some very good dvd players. http://www.accessories4less.com/advscripts/detailpg.asp?sModnum=MAR-DV-4200&sPrice=229.99
  9. I don't think Klipsch has authorized dealers that ship speakers, besides ubid, and they don't have rf-7s yet. Soo really you dont know if he got look-alikes or the real deal =/. Even so for the money there is no better speaker to get imo. I dunno about you but I dont kick around my speakers. Normal playing isn't going to break a driver loose. Also if he payed 2k and bought them online I think he got ripped off by that dealer, should have payed more like $1500. This message has been edited by Maximo on 04-24-2002 at 05:57 PM
  10. This could be 2 things, first it could be that your interconnects aren't shielded good enough and are acting as an antenna, I would mabey try Transparent Cable, they make very very low noise interconnects with real good shielding. Another thing mabey to try is another receiver, its possible that something in the denon you have has gone bad.
  11. Well I think something to realize with stereo equipment, is that there is always going to be something that sounds better then what you have. Unless you have 100k to spend, and even then... Anyway your RF3s are the best speaker for the money you can get, RF7s are also the best speaker for the money in their price range imo. Its all about what ya can afford. 12. Mabey even look into the Marantz 7200, I know I really liked the sound of the 8200 and the 7200 is prolly fairly close. I think acceseries4less has a 7200 for pretty cheap, they sell refurbished Marantz, and are certified with warranty ect This message has been edited by Maximo on 03-29-2002 at 08:47 PM
  13. Well I think I decided on a Marantz 8200. For the price it seems to be a nice compromise in features and sound between a denon 4802, Integra 8.2 and a denon 3802. Getting it for about $1400. Thanks for all the input
  14. Well I really dont have a bad hiss through my fronts, its when I use the sub out to the parasound amp and then to the 4638s. I can turn the receiver volume all the way down and just turn up the parasound volume and I get a hiss. Thing is I turn off the receiver and hiss is gone. So I dunno
  15. Havent had alot of chances to compare, atm the 4638 hisses so much due to the sony output that I dont turn it up to loud levels.(well ok mabey once or twice) 4638 seems a lil less boomy but hard to say atm. When I get my new receiver I can tell ya though 8)
  16. Ahh sorry I wasn't clear I meant the < $1000 range for the reciever, using online/ebay pricing The thing I really hated about this sony was that I could hear a hiss out of the 4638 I hooked up to it via a seperate amp. Unplugged all the sources from the receiver and hiss still there. Unplugged all speakers except the 4638 and hiss still there. Turn off receiver with power amp for the speaker box volume all the way up and guess what, no hiss at all. Also could hear little beeps when I changed tracks on dvds through the 4638. SO figured out that it had to be the receiver that was making all the noise.(Im runnig a monster hts-3600 for power conditioning too) Yeah the outlaw looks decent, but is it better then the denon or pioneer elite as far as music goes. I think they are prolly all on par with HT. btw does anyone own a parasound avr-1800, that was the way I was going to go, but read some bad reviews on it about poping when changing sources and a hum/buzz at certain db ranges in 5.1. Thanks again RF-3 II's RC-3 RS-3s Paradigm pw-2200 JBL 4638 powered by Parasound HCA-1000 Sony dvd Monster Power 3600 gamecube/ps2 kenwood cd player soon to be replaced sony str-de945 This message has been edited by Maximo on 03-22-2002 at 12:33 PM
  17. Well I am finally fed up with my Sony 945 receiver so I am looking into a new one. I was looking at the denon 3802 or the pioneer elite vsx-36tx. I looked at the outlaw but I have heard that the s-video switching doesnt work right on them, I need that feature for sure because of all the inputs I have. I will prolly be 50-50 music and HT. Any other suggestions are welcome in the sub 1k range(ebay/online price range). The MAIN thing I want to be sure of it that it has no background electronics noise at decent volume(like hiss you can hear with no source but the volume turned up) Thanks Mike
  18. Paradigm makes a sub crossover unit, I think its about $150, and has the basic Hz and phase controls I believe. I bought a parasound HCA1000A and it has warning lights for overload. I have it bridged mono and the lights havent came on yet so , so far so good.
  19. Ended up getting a Parasound HCA-1000a, Its stable to 2 ohms, and has overload warning lights on it that will tell me if its in trouble. Using it monobridged and it gets that speakerbox pretty loud. My only problem now is, it seems my str-de945 is a bit on the noisey side, like if I turn up the 4638 amp all the way, I can hear a hiss and if I like change a track on a cd can hear a slight beep. Its like amplifying all the background noise comming from the sony, and it seems the sony has a lot of it heh. So I think in the next few months I am going to try to aquire a 5 channel parasound amp, and preamp and just go that way. Thanks for all the help
  20. Well for a eq/preamp I am just planning on bringing the signal off my Sub out on the sony reciever and prolly Y spliting it to the power amp. Dunno if that will work but hoping. 8)
  21. I know alot of people have bought the partsexpress plate amp. But I dunno if thats gonna fly (with how it looks) with the girlfriend hehe. So I am wondering what people think would be a good power amp to run this. I have looked at the NAD 214, and the Samson Servo 550. I am prolly gonna try to spend less then 300 on it on ebay used or new. Just looking for some ideas. Trying to find a amp that will bridge-mono at 4 ohms and be clear and have enough power to push this. btw my prologic yamaha amp is ok but the 60 watts isnt real great and it is hissing when turned up(could be coming from the main receiver out but not real certain) Just looking for any other brands or model numbers that would work good in your opinion. Thanks This message has been edited by Maximo on 03-12-2002 at 11:06 PM
  22. Mine is coming tomorrow, and I am going to see how this old receiver powers it. I was wondering though, where are you mounting your parts-express plate amps for thoseof you who have bought em. I figured on the back or something, but I am not totally sure how big they are and haw far they are going to stick out if this old amp doesnt work out. Thanks ----------------------------------------------------- Klipsch RF-3 IIs Klipsch RC-3 Klipsch RS-3s Paradigm PW-2200 Sony STR-DE945 Sony DVD JVC 32" TV JBL 4638
  23. Really it comes down to how much you want to spend. If $1000-$2000 then an svs is prolly the best. For under $1000 a paradigm pw-2200 is a good choice imo. $2000+ id say a velodyne HGS series or something similar, RSW Klipsch possibly , but I havent heard these.
  24. Also try to see if your receiver can set the front speakers to large or small. Try setting them to large cause this will channel the lower frequencies through the speaker where small channels them all to the sub. I just bought the RF-3s and there is no lack of bass even without a sub hooked up. Im using a sony str de945 so your reciever is better then mine prolly, and should probably let you set those fronts to large. whoops, penguin already said this This message has been edited by Maximo on 03-06-2002 at 12:01 PM
