  1. CONGRATULATIONS! St. Louis deserved to win the series. David Eckstein deserved the MVP and the Corvette Z06. The Tigers deserved to lose the game and the Series, but we're still proud of them and their amazing season.
  2. I have owned several pairs of LS3/5as, the current pair for decades. They are excellent small speakers, but they are very inefficient and they are no match for the Cornwalls, La Scalas and Speakerlab Ks that I own or have owned.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> They cannot produce the dynamic live music sound of horn speakers. They are currently teamed with transmission-line subs with KEF B139 woofers as the front speakers for my HT system.
  3. I'm hoping that history will repeat itself! -Glenn Amen!
  4. Best wishes Cal. It takes courage to make the decision, have the surgery, lose the weight and then persist in keeping the weight off.
  5. The Tigers were finished last night by a master Carpenter. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Both <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />St. Louis and Detroit were the underdogs throughout the post season, and yet each prevailed. When the "underdogs" finally met head to head, one team had to be anointed as the favorite. It made me uncomfortable that the Tigers were the favorite of the "experts." Games aren't won on paper; just ask the Mets and the Yankees. Not to worry . . . much . . . yet. If Pudge, Polanco and Granderson don't wake up tonight, then it's time to really fret. In 1968, while matriculating at MSU, when the Cards led the Series 3-1, a St. Louis fan and native vowed to throw his TV out of his 5th floor dorm window if they blew their lead. They did and he did. That CRT made quite a noise and mess as it hit the pavement. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLENN!
  6. Sooner or later a pair of abused La Scalas will surface. I'm looking for empty enclosures. And don't forget that the Cornwall Vault is still gathering dust in our warehouse waiting to protect another pair of pristine Cornwalls. Go TIGERS!
  7. NOW I get it. Thanks for the nudge Oldtimer. You almost had to Telegraph the clue.
  8. Send an email or PM to BEC aka Bob Crites http://forums.klipsch.com/members/BEC.aspx. No, it's not expensive and it's an easy DIY project to upgrade the caps.
  9. Despite having owned 4 Speakerlab Ks in the 70s, I don't know if the back chamber vented into the ski slopes. Does anyone know for certain?
  10. Sheltie Dave- "Just drop a pair of Bose 901s on the basebin. They are relatively linear in the 200 to 20K range, only needing 2 dB of boost at 200 Hz and 30 dB at 15kHz." I sense sarcasm. Nevertheless, I recall seeing a mimeographed ad for just such a combination from some DIY entrepreneur decades ago. I never actually heard, or even saw, the finished result. The builder/seller was probably infringing the Bose patent (the Klipschorn patent had probably expired by that time). I've owned Khorns and 901s. Such miscegenation should not be allowed. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  11. Bob or Arky- Are the squawker drivers K-55 (Atlas PD-5VH)? I see that the horn is available for $29 at http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?Source=googlebase&ProductID=16186 For that kind of money it makes little sense to go to the trouble to build (or buy) a wooden Tractrix horn unless there is a tremendous improvement or unless the hobbyist just lives to maximize the DIY thrill at every opportunity. Has anyone done a direct comparison? Michael- I believe that device is meant to "torture" corks out of bottles. You need not concern yourself further.
  12. Glenn, "You were the second forum member I've met and the second one to visit our house . . ." If Michael's #2, does that make me #3? Please don't tell me I'm into double digits. :-) GO TIGERS!
  13. Allan- I'd never run across that site. It's a gold mine. Seeing and hearing the vintage performances is wonderful. Thanks for the post. BTW, I'm still enjoying the CT-125s you sold me.
  14. Here's a photo of the insides. The link below might not still work. Single Driver Rear Horn Experiments<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/548426.aspx
  15. They arent truly horns but the rear loaded enclosures designed for Fostex FE103s that I built to house Radio Shack 40-1197 drivers surprised me beyond all expectation. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The single driver concept produces amazing imaging, while the rear horn enclosure produces useable bass at reasonable levels. Theyre perfect for listening to jazz ensembles, not so great for DSOTM or the like at live music levels. As good as they are they wont stop me from using the BEC CW1526 s, CT125s and wooden trachorns Im building to build CornScalas or Khorn clones for that live music dynamic range that only true horns can provide.
  16. Great news Michael! Youre perfect for the job; knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> You probably spoke to this elsewhere in the thread; will you be able to do wedding shoots on the side? Would you want to do so?
  17. 3-0 Tigers in game 3 of the ALCS and in the ALCS! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Detroit should put the A's out of their misery and end it today.
  18. Even if there were a patent in effect, what Erland's doing, making a hypothetically patented item for his personal use, would not infringe the hypothetical patent. Now Shinall would be another matter, hypothetically, but not in reality.
  19. Glenn, Alexis Gomez! Who'd-a thunk it? If the Tigers advance to the World Series and Sean Casey is unable to play, are the Tigers allowed to activate Chris Shelton, or another player, for the Series?
  20. Several years ago I worked with a woman who was driving to the office one day and got stuck behind a guy in a white Corvette who was not driving fast enough to suit her. After tailgating and cursing the anonymous driver, she finally got an opportunity to pass the Vette in her Honda Prelude (she claims to have passed the Vette without delivering a single digit salute). As she got out of her car, the Vette pulled into the lot and out stepped Bob Seger, who was one of our clients. If he recognized her as an impatient driver, he was gentleman enough to not say anything.<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O /> Her brother had been the starting quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines, so a competitive nature was in her genes.
  21. JC- "BUT! Where do I get them. PE only has those security head screws and Home Depot only has the slot screws. I would need #10 x 32 x 1 1/2" Is there an independent local hardware store with wooden floors and people who know what they're doing? If so, they'll have what you need. If not, try http://www.boltdepot.com/product.aspx?cc=13&cs=71&cm=25&cd=1221 Worst case, I'll buy a box for you at Frentz & Son Hardware in Royal Oak, MI.
