The woofer is not AlNiCo, but is likely original.  Unless they sound recessed, polite, or dull and all the drivers work they need no restoration.  You might rub a little lemon oil on the veneer.

that woofer looks original to me -- there were alnico woofers that had a square back, but with rounded edges -- here is a clearer example.  of course, a better pic would help.

my '75 heresys had alnico woofer but with a smaller magnet cover like this:

I purchased a pair of Heresy speakers a couple years ago and would like to know more about them, year built, version, etc, I've looked other sites to check serial numbers, but mine do not seem to make any sense. I get messages the number do not correspond to known sequence. I have good tags on my speakers that show type and serial number along with inspector signatures, as well as the handwritten serial number, so do not understand how the numbers could be incorrect.

I've attached photos of both tags. hope you can help me.

PS: I don't see attached photos. Here are the serial numbers 8508682 & 655781.  Could that second 5 be an S in last number?

Please post pics so we can help you assess. Have you removed the backs to look at the drivers?

Hello , proud owner of a pair of Bells, the info

on the rear tag reads as follows….

    TYPE   BK OL

    SERIAL #’s     8906809

                          8906808

Also their is a very long run of numbers or

letters/ ? Mix of both ? That I cannot decipher due to tag fade out, they have cane cloth and

appear to be an oak finish, the cabinet themselves. I would write them at 9 only due to their age, I would like to recall them, but I am not aware of anyone or company that would have that exact type of cloth, any information on disassembly will be greatly appreciated. Thanks all in advance respectfully.
PS/ I have owned them for at least the past 30 years do have new crossovers and boxes AB-2 the original CROSSOVERS were AB

Wanted to try the AB-2 to enable bi Amping with a 300 B on top & Mac or Accuphase

amp on the woofers/ have a BRYSTON xover

however, never implemented this change have been stored away for a while. CROSSOVERS are still in boxes I figure I won’t know until I try. Thanks again for any info.

They are lacquered oak speakers built in 1989.

I'm facing the same issue. I went from Bic America Pl-89 towers that say they can handle 225w RMS, I must admit, they were extremely loud and clear, until I blew a crossover, but the towers were 10yo. So I now have the new klipsch RP-8000F II, but they are rated at 160w RMS, I'm also using Emotiva BasX-A2 160w Amp. Kinda spot on even in wattage, BUT, I already blew a tweeter, not once, but twice. I was very disappointed coming from $300 Bic America to $750 Klipsch. I truly expected more. Should I have gone with the Emotiva Gen3 300w RMS for extra headroom? Is my 160w Emotiva putting out distortion which keeps blowing one tweeter? BTW, I noticed the Klipsch are very bright, a bit harsh for my liking, i guess it takes getting used to.. As of today, I'm literally waiting on the 2nd replacement tweeter. What to do, what to do. 🤔

just curious -- how loud are you listening?  too many watts will fry a driver, but so will distortion.

I'm a Newbie to the site and I'm looking at these Epic CF-3 Speakers....Is this an aftermarket repair or something that could have possibly been done at the factory ? The owner says this does not affect the sound whatsoever. He told me that this glue is on both of the Drivers/woofers on the same Speaker. Should this be something of concern ? I apologize for asking this elementary type question. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank You.

no -- you shouldn't be concerned.  that small amount will not inhibit the movement of the woofer.  go listen and forget about it.

For sure @MC39693. I usually display and listen to my speakers without the grills attached but definitely won't loose them,  Thank you again for keeping them in such good shape.  I sometimes feel speaker grills are something in the past : )

you really did a great job on those speakers -- congrats!

Okay, I just spoke with Klipsch directly in regard to the Forte IV being placed in front of the window. They recommended against it due to the fact that according to them the radiator could possibly cause the window to rattle. I really never considered that.

hmmm . . . how well are your windows made?  if they're relatively modern rattling seems unlikely.

Not actually a reply, but same subject matter.. I have pair of Bells that I purchased new in early 80s. Was told they were a special order customer backed out. Was told finish is Ebony. They were really nice looking which is why I bought them, aside from the sound. Wanted to find out if there is a way to confirm information? On tag for type it says BK MEL. Serial #s are 8512929 and 30. Thanks for any info.

and they were made in 1985 (first two digits of serial number).

  10. looks like the tweeter is not working -- i doubt the tweeter went bad.  my guess is either the tweeter was not reconnected or there is a cold solder joint from the recap.

as @wuzzzer said, you'll have to take things apart and dig in.  start by removing the passive radiator in the back and taking a look at the crossover.

A big thanks for letting me join the forum.

Sadly my Father recently passed away and the family has been trying to decide what to do with all his beautiful stereo equipment.

I have a set of Cornwalls that i believe he purchased new in 1976....CD-BR 7N289 and 7N290.

They have actually sat unused probably since the mid 80's.....never opened up or modified.....completely original. I did hook them up to the Pioneer SA9100 a few weeks ago and they still sound beautiful to me.

Am just looking for any feedback on them and what they might be worth .

    Thanks

    Chris

Guitar amp world where some purposely overdrive the amp for compression, an effect for creating music.

Yep, but primary due to the higher voltages on the tubes and intentionally undersized output transformers.

Tube compression is not something you would associate with audio tube amps when operated normally (i.e. within the design intent).

Hey guys! So to make it short I work in residential painting/remodeling and these were left behind in a home we were working in and I was told to throw them away so I loaded them in my truck and brought them home. I know nothing about sound systems and after quick Google searches I saw theyre worth decent money. What would be the best way to test them and what would be a fair price for them?

I have no use for them so I want to sell them, if I could find an enthusiast id love to sell them for fairly cheap since I saw they go for crazy prices and I got them for free so anything I make off them is good for me.

I can always add/send more photos I just took some quick ones so you guys could get an idea of what they are.

The picture of the label shows you've got at least one oiled walnut Heresy 1 from 1973 (L = 1973).  Can you post pics of the labels of all of the speakers and some better shots of the cabinets to assess the condition.

Oiled walnut is the most desirable finish on speakers from this age and go for more than oak or raw birch.  I sold my oiled walnut Heresy 1s for $750 (probably could have gotten $800 when I sold them, but the market has cooled a bit).  They were in excellent condition and had updated capacitors.  Price does vary by region.
