  1. Asking $425 USD including shipping. I’m in Canada and will offer a discount to any Canadian buyers as shipping to the US is expensive.

After waiting five months for my Heresy III upgrade kit the parts arrived, I’ve installed everything and it’s working well. I would like to sell the original drivers, horns and crossovers from my Heresy II’s.

Everything works well and I’ve got the Klipsch boxes and packaging that the upgrade kit came in so I will use that to ship. One of the woofer caps appears to have minor dips and I’ve included a good photo of this so that any potential buyers understand what I’m selling. Aesthetic only, functions perfectly.

I am in Canada. I’ve bought and sold on Canuck Audio Mart and understand how important packaging is so I have taken packing photos that I will share via pm to anyone interested.

    Thanks for looking

  2. I’m 45 years old and have been pretty rough on my ears, playing in bands, working construction and listening to loud music. I was thinking about this topic as well but more in relation to the Klipsch “sound” and how some people describe it as shouty or harsh.

I was wondering if maybe Klipsch is more popular with the 40+ crowd. And, if so, could it be because our mature ears appreciate a bit more high end to compensate for hearing loss? Is it possible younger people think Klipsch sound harsh because their hearing is still pristine?

  3. Quick update. Thanks to those who have shown interest. I’m going to sell these components but not for another few weeks. When I am ready to sell I will pop back on and pm everyone who is keen to buy.

One other piece of info is that I am on the west coast of Canada but willing to do a very diligent job packing and shipping. I will send photos of the packing to the buyer and get their approval before sealing up, just so everyone is happy. I use Canuck Audio Mart under the same name and have a positive review there if you want to look me up.

    Cheers

  4. I am gauging interest in these items. All are in great shape, currently in my mint Heresy II’s and I am listening to them as I type this.

    Prices I am looking for:

    Pair of woofers $150

    Pair of tweeters $100

Pair of mid drivers (less the horn) $100

    Pair of crossovers $100

Please let me know if you are interested. I would prefer to sell the lot.

  5. OP here. Every good story needs a good ending so here goes. I received two different dm’s from forum members to send me an original replacement driver for the kg4’s. But in the end I decided to return the speakers to the seller who gave me a refund. Thanks to you guys for offering to help me out!

That’s not all though! I also got a message from another forum member fairly close to me. They invited me over to check out a pair of Heresy II’s that they weren’t using. Well I dropped by today, had a great chat, listened to some music on a very cool sound system, and ended up buying them from the generous person. So now I’m sitting back and enjoying. I love the Heresy’s so far, so much clarity and liveliness.

Seems like things worked out for the best, all because of this forum. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

  6. Congrats on your Schiit! I’ve been running a Vidar with Saga OG preamp for the past 6 months and really like them. I recently picked up a pair of kg4’s and enjoy how the amp and speakers sound together.

My tip for buying Schiit: check out their clearance section on the website. There can be some pretty sweet deals on there for b stock items.

which makes it difficult to be cost effective in replacing a driver or two or even matching all 4 up when you can get a bullet proof set of old Heresy's for a little more money.

This is the dilemma I am facing. It's even worse in Canada because shipping, duties and taxes totals around $40 USD per driver. So each driver would cost me $80-$100 USD all in.

As for the Heresy comparison, here is an all-Canadian analysis if you are interested: H1's go for around $600 USD here and maybe $750 for the H2's. After shipping (I live on an island) I'm looking at a total price of $700 - $850 USD for a pair of Heresy's.

When you say bullet proof, are the Heresy's known to be better built or ...?

Had one of each version in my pair. Round cup and rectangle.

Power is what am wanting to ask OP. Thanks!

    Hi guys,

I am running a Schiit Saga+ preamp to a Vidar power amp. The Vidar should be able to safely flex down to 4 ohms with these specs from the website:

    Power Output:

Stereo, 8 Ohms: 100W RMS per channel
Stereo, 4 Ohms: 200W RMS per channel
    Mono, 8 ohms: 400W RMS

For the record, the Schiit with kg4 combination sounds great to my ears. I was running a pair of KEF Q350's prior to this and, although they have their strengths, the KEF's sound dull in comparison to the kg4's. I also have a B&W 610 10" sealed subwoofer that I keep turned down low and it just helps to fill things out.

that was my thread linked above. I did I buy the Midwest replacement for the single blown k8k I had. sounded nice to me. just to be balanced I went ahead and replaced the right side with another Midwest replacement (same woofer on the left). I think they sound a little better than when I bought them. but, could just be imagining that. I have been considering buying 2 more and replacing all the woofers. Why not, I already replaced the tweeters and caps? I haven't done that yet though.

I currently have a working k8k and a blown k8k I can let go of. and when I replace the other two, ill have two more. I plan on keeping my KG4 until I can save up the scratch for some forte or cornwall. But, that will be a long while. I really like the sound of my KG4, so I don't mind putting some more money in them. I of course will never get that money back on resale.

Good to hear the Midwest have been a good replacement! I’ll pm you and see if we can work something out for your working k8k.

you need to find 1 original 8 inch kg4 woofer , place a wanted ad in the garage sale section , who knows ?

That would be ideal. I’ve had an ad up in garage sale for a couple days with no response. Also have searches saved in eBay and Canuck Audio Mart with alerts if something comes on the market.

So you would buy a pair

Yes and here lies the dilemma. In fact two dilemma's. First is the $$$:  I bought the speakers for $300 USD equiv. To purchase, ship and pay duties on the new MW Audio drivers (I would want two, one for each cabinet) will be another $300 USD. Ouch.

Dilemma two is that I'm an OEM guy. My first car was a 1969 TBird and I wouldn't dare put anything in there from a Cougar or a Lincoln, even though it might work. One of the pleasures of owning older (vintage?) gear is that it still works and is unique.

Time to do some thinking...maybe I'm better off to just keep an eye out for a nice pair of Forte's or Heresy's?

See that same link posted in that other thread at the top.

    Good hunting...

Yes, what might have changed is that OEM replacements seem to be getting harder to find (makes sense), and the two companies who are listed as able to repair have told me they are not able to work on these drivers. I also checked out a pioneer driver that was listed in that or another similar thread, but the specs don’t line up that well.

So to my eyes it looks like these Midwest K8K clones might be the best and most readily available options.

  13. Thanks for the info and links. I’ve been working on replacement options last night and today. So far the best I’ve come up with is this driver from Midwest. Michael Crites suggested it but he hasn’t actually heard it yet. Any first hand info on this driver appreciated. I may start a new thread with this question.
