  1. yammies are a bright receiver, they have a different sound than your hk, the hk is cleaner and warmer, the yammies seem to dominate in the tweeter section and the bass seems overstated, cant stand the yammie sound, makes me end my sessions early, so i got rid of mine and went nad, any way just shop arond and make your ears happy
  2. you are missing the obvious, the largest variable is the difference in source. the sunfire is a large leap from the hk. the hk in its own right is good, but the sunfire is great, not my choice but still great in its own right. all by itself this would make the difference in sound that you are missing from the store demos
  3. having had both in house i can say they both have different sounds, the pioneers i have had and listened to were a more balanced sounding machine, and the yammies i got rid of quickly, they were just to bright for my ears, so yes there is a difference, maybe the yammie fits your listening demands a bit better than the pioneer
  4. im with steelie, i have not had the exact models you mention, but have had the manufacturers, and of the 3 the nad was best
  5. richard marsh? interconnects? stabalizers? dodent matter, ive heard thEm and they just sound flAT. did a long listen to them on rf 7's and thier own wierd looking speakers and they just sounded? well lacking
  6. yeah net flix did not impress me, they said they caried all new releases, but never listed many of them, so it was hard to order them, plus if you are into movies you would quickly find out that thier queue is limited. plus i in 4 dvd's i got from them was very badly scratched, and eve received 1 broken in half, pretty poor service
  7. all yammies are ear bleeders, or at least the new models, they used to be grear, but have quicklly gone down hill. against denon they sound shrill not because they are overly high, but because thier low end is poorly done
  8. i had the suggested setup for ahwile, and yes it does work, just not well or up to par with thier respective series. by this i mean the 7 is excellent as a center in an reference setup, but corns are not reference they are heritage and voiced very differently, the 7 can be set up to match spl's but not voice, it can match volume but not timbre. i tried and tried but it always jumped back and forth when crossing across the front, if you want seamless you will look for a matching series center, i have watched this debate go on and on, and the people who have used the 7 as center raved about how good it sounded, until they had a chance to match, once they did they were converted, because the difference is very noticable, not only were the converted they jumped on the no mixing bandwagon
  9. my reaction as well the first time i used an spl meter
  10. loud has nothing to do with good sound, you have the basics for a great system, actually you have a darn good system, and if you do decide to upgrade i would first start with those tiny rs's it would amayze you to see how much full range speakers add to rears, the rs's limit the ambiance you would get from full range, you would be surprised how much signal is sent rearward during dynamic sequences
  11. that is exactly why i wont ever do sony again, i have had my share of bad sony's, and thier attitude is- you bought it, it is now your problem. plus they just make inferior products, mass produced
  12. i did not see what you are using for procesing, but, it should make little difference, get into your speaker menu and adjust your delay, and than use an spl meter, you should be able to make your system sound very balanced, piece of cake

    Advice

no the reference speaker will not go with your current speakers, especially that small center channel speaker
  14. after auditioning the monster line i quiclky found that they do good power, but very poor dynamics, eberything sounded very flat, it seems that gimmicks are thier forte. POWER POWER POWER dynamics soundstage?
  15. your cornwalls deserve another cornwall, or lascalla minimum, the heresy while voiced the same is small as center for the mighty corns, i tried it once, and very soon placed mine as surrounds, and found a lascalla, in my ht experience's the center needs to be on level with the front channels due to the fact that the lions share does come from the center channel, so if you have huge front channels, you need huge center to do the system justice
  16. calibrated with an avia disc, i never understood this, after all the talk i heard here about them i went and bought 1, and found it to be a huge waste of money, the disc contains all the same tweaks that that any good owners manual suggests, but listening to your letter i would concentrate on the source player, my son has an sony ??? dvd, and while it does a fair job, the difference between my denon and the sony is night and day, small things like source upgrades can be like getting new speakers, since it can make them much more revealing due to the fact that those cheapo mass produced players either leave much of the signal on the disc or horribly miscolor the signal due to poor electronics, whatever you decide, take time to audition, we all have our preferences, but the most important thing is what sounds good to your ears
  17. i am with dman, i listen to everything on my khorns, and it all sounds spectacular, but because of the quality of the recordings, or the particular machine you are using for downstream, certan recordings just sound poor. so from my experience switching from speaker type to speaker type is just compensating for weaknesses, from my frequent visits to audio boutiques, auditioning very expensive systems tells the same tale. a poor recording is a poor recording, or a poor machine is a poor machine, i even gave up on cd until i get my krell player, now i just havent found a bad cd, after all the money i spent thinking it was the recordings i found it was my source player
  18. i am with william f. this sounds more like an explanation for someone who lost a bet over the large vs small issue. i think the equipment tested was limited , poor quality (sony? bose?)if it had that much trouble carrying the signals
  19. i dont know about that. i mean it really depends on your audio equipment, i ran my cable into my ht using the vcr, and it sounded terrible not terrible, very sad, maybe the poster who said it should not effect sound has a smaller rig? just curious, because every time i have made the attempt, with pretty good vcr's and mediocre to great audio it always sounds terrible?
  20. listen to nicholtl, you need something to compare with, the yammies i havs had exoerience with have been overly bright, not at all easy to listen to
  21. yup patience is the key, speakers are all voiced differently, and unless you match, you get lismatched sound, the sound will seem to jump in and out when going from speaker to speaker, instead of flowing from speaker, mixing just costs more in the long run because if you want good to great mixing isnt in the plan
  22. bob, i just looked at your budget, and if you are serious about 2 channel you need to consider the heresies, i picked mine up for 400, and 1 of them would be as good as 4 of the others, but 1 thing, you might need better amplification, that yammie is very bright, and the heresies aare a very detailed speaker
  23. preference order??? rc 7 in lascalla ht??? nowhere, the 7 does not go with a lascalla at all different voice totally, the 7 would kill the overall effect
  24. be carefull when you go to buy a dvd recorder, i saw the replies and they are missing information, i mean that dvd recorders for the most part record the formats mentioned, but a good recorder also records 2 more dvd formats that i cant remember just off hand (old age) i almost bought the pioneer dvd recorder it had the 2 missing formats but it was 1000 dollars, it seems that the formats were negative aspects of the dvd-r? oh my goodness, i will see if i can find out for you
  25. i tried as an experiment 3 channel, i wanted to know if it was good enough or if i needed to go ahead and buy another set of heresies for my bedroom, so i took my heresies out of my system and up they went, at first i was satisfied, and than i watched a few movies and dvd-as and i noticed a huge difference, i continued with the experiment for about 6 months, and i noticed bit by bit a lack of ambience, i mean transitional sounds were not as transitional, sound ststage was good but ambience was just not there, so i broughtmy heresies back into the mix and bam, there it was, 3 channel is not 5 channel, and my frony 3 are cornerhorns and a la, so i think i gave it a fair test
