He painted it after 9/11. Makes a fitting background for our little patriot, don't you think? Are you LOVING the 2400! I'm finding new features all the time. Just got a BellO 1112 rack from Mark Maple (he posted photo) and the wire routing feature (cable management system) really makes a nice installation. I'll be showing photos of the BACK of my system soon! Michael How's the neighbors? Still breathing? ---------------- God bless the girls back home! BTW, what kind of restaurant does your brother run? I'm sure getting tired of Korean food! Fortunately, there's a little bar withing walking distance that serves German cuisine, I need the break once in a while. Do indeed love the 2400, very capable indeed! So far no complaints from the neighbors and I don't know why

I have an older Sony DVD player that does the DD and DTS, but my Yamaha RXV2400 is brand new. I want the receiver to do the decoding, right? I think then that I have to go in to DVD players menu and turn OFF any decoding software, so it goes out 'normal' and the receiver does the brain work. Getting there.. Michael ---------------- I'm using optical interconnects to hook my DVD and CD players in to my 2400's digital and it is working fine, Plug and Play. Nothing to switch on or off anywhere. My cheap Technics CD juke box never sounded so good! Optical is way quieter and cleaner than the RCA/analog route. Says a lot for the Yammie's D/A converter. The optical is thin (no bulk) and easy to route. Just don't crease it. $10 for million dollar sound!

Let us know what you think of the setup options and the sound with your Chorus speakers. Michael ---------------- Michael, Sorry to not get back to this earlier. I work strange hours, additionally visits to my girlfriend take me out of town a fair bit. I did indeed get the 2400. Had a problem with the Component Video and took it back. AAFES (happily, since I didn't ask for a refund) gave me a replacement. Have enjoyed the Yammie immensely! It really makes the Choruses sing. The remote's small buttons and script (I need reading glasses) take a little getting used to, but it's fun to experiment. What does Guns & Roses sound like in a Munich Opera Hall? Vienna, etc.? The sound clarity is far better than I expected, but you can't describe this amp as "laid-back" like tubes or mellow like an old Marantz SS. Definition and soundstage are good so far, but I haven't spent a lot of time with this baby, yet. Altogether the Yammie plays quite neutral. An excellent match for the Chorus, none of my guests have failed to be impressed. I'm using my heretofore neglected KG-4's as surrounds. Haven't noticed a problem concerning timbre difference between the two types yet. Besides making DVDs sound great, for CD, I can switch the remote to "straight stereo" mode and the room really rocks. By all means go optical into this unit! The difference it makes on my Technics CD jukebox is stunning! Glad I took your advice!

Sarge, tell Woody that Ozzy is the best music for pi$$ing off neighbors. It's either a great military and rock and roll rumor or the truth that one of the armed forces played Ozzy at massive volumes when they were trying to route a certain villan (Noriega?) from his lair. How 'bout Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries', from Apocalypse Now? He turned it down on his own while the police were there. Today's episode is two flat tires on Woody's car this morning. Aside: Guys and gals, before you "buy Korean" remember that this kind of grief is an every day occurance for an American over here defending THEIR country. The more money they have, the harder it is on us. I'm beginning to believe that the Koreans are worse ingrates than the French!

I am sure the speakers would just overpower my 13' square bedroom! In my room, I am working on building a nice home theater system with a Denon 28 or 3805 at the center and new Synergy's for the sound. However, due to where I work, I've been thinking dirty thoughts about this for the Chorus II's: http://www.sumikoaudio.net/primare/products/i21.htm So not bad, I'm 19 and working on two systems ---------------- My suspicions are that your Chorus will definitely overwhelm a 13' area! They'll rock the basement, though! Have you heard the Primare? You'd want to audition it with your Chorus before you committed that kind of $$$: "Within its larger chassis featuring a new and modern cosmetic design, a massive single torodial transformer resides having replaced the two from the previous model" This is interesting because dual transformer power supplies are usually preferred for crosstalk reduction and faster transient response within each channel. This is also why a lot of folks on this board buy monoblocks. Hope they had a good reason to go to a single transformer other than cost savings. Would you really want to put a Primare in the basement? An old Marantz or HK might still serve your purpose better, at least till you bring the Chorus' upstairs!

Once in a while a joint pops, no pain yet. The aforementioned reference to an audible "pop" qualifies this as an audio post.

  15. My colleague, who we shall refer to as "Woody", played "hard" this morning, specifically 2 o'clock in the morning, just for his neighbors. Permit me to elaborate. Woody and I live in multiple dwelling apartment buildings in Korea. The natives here of the "Land of Not Quite Right" are not especially amicable to foreigners, particularly Americans. Woody's fourth floor neighbor has been regularly appropriating Woody's parking place. Woody was running out of heating oil and called in the heating oil truck. The deliveryman mistakenly pumped 3 barrels into the neighbor's tank, which sits next to Woody's. When Woody inspects his own tank, he asks the deliveryman "Hey dude, where's my kerosene?". The deliveryman defaults promptly into "No-speakee-Englishee" mode and the lucky neighbor swears by Confucius that his own tank was already full! Frustrated (a common state of being for a foreigner here), Woody retreats to his apartment and commences to imbibe. In hell, your neighbors are korean...... Did I mention that Woody owns a pair of Fortes driven by a weapons-grade amp? It's 11 P.M. and Woody's feeling generous, "I've shared my parking place and my heating oil, perchance my beloved neighbor is a music lover! I'll share!". Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Metallica with the knob to the far right..... An hour ago, at 2 A.M. Woody calls me at work: "Krusty, I've got the Korean Police here" "Woody, are you okay?" Woody then relates the whole tale to me. W: "You know, I can't even stay in the same room with these speakers up like this, it inflicts pain on my ears." K: "Well you have the comfort of knowing that you are treating your neighbors to distortion free detail. Klipsch is the Legend of Sound" W: "Ah, the police just left!" K: "Cool, what did you tell them?" W: "That my neighbor stole my heating oil and I thought I'd let him listen to my music."

Where the Chorus's are does not provide a good listening spot (in the formal living room) - in my bedroom, I can throw in a DVD and enjoy. Audio isn't my only thing. I am into digital photography and Canon has lots of nice lenses to tempt me. My car would just LOVE a supercharger, new suspension, wheel and tire package, Brembo rotors, etc. I need a new computer monitor and it will be a 19 or 20" LCD of the highest quality. I could blow 50 G's in a few days with no problem - just a matter of what will be the most appropriate thing! ---------------- Congratulations, definitely the Deal of the Century! I won't tell you what I paid for my Chorus II's, but my girlfriend can go before they will! A lot of the guys here on the Forum recommend the HK Twin Power receivers for a cheap receiver solution, I've had no experience with them. I did love the way my Marantz 2220b and later 2385 mated with my Klipsch. Either way, if you keep running your Chorus II's with a crappy receiver, it's gonna drive ya crazy sooner rather than later. My Yamaha HT receiver is growing on me, but it's more buck$$$. Sounds like you're just going 2-Channel for now, and there are great legacy amps/receivers out there that can take care of you for not a lot of money. But you've been on the forum for a while, so you already know all that
  17. Brilliant Thebes! Don't recall you shadowing me through the alleys of Uijongbu, Taegu and Kunsan, though Fini's would be a great name for any of a load of dives I've hit here over the years. Korean's are generally unimaginative when it comes to naming American bars: Most every camp town has at least one "Paradise", "Las Vegas", "Playboy", or "Lucky" club.

Aside from the collector value, they probably sound great! I might have gone for these instead of my first Heresy's in 1974, had they been available.

But the symphonies (or their recordings) are almost a special 'topic'. I have a soft spot for Karajan's early 1960s cycle (bar the 6th), recently reissued as SACD hybrids by DG. But then there is a Furtwängler 3rd from Vienna (1944!) which is absolutely stunning in its emtional intensity, or the first Roger Norringon set on EMI (on so-called period instruments) and many more! Another recording I often play when evaluating the musical qualities of unknown gear is the (young) Barenboim/Klemperer EMI recording of the 'Choral Fantasy' (coupled with the five piano concertos). The work might not be Beethoven at his best, but this particular recording is among the most natural classical recording in my collection. Highly recommended! Wolfram ---------------- Thought I read something in the liner notes about Toscanini and Furtwängler being serious rivals. I was alive back then and recall seeing Toscanini on TV a couple of times. Those two certainly had different ways of looking at Beethoven. Furtwängler's performance of the 9th at Bayreuth is breathtaking. Hope the labels release more of this good old stuff on SACD (though I don't have a player yet). Again, if you like choral music and you haven't heard Rilling do Bach, you're missing out on a treat. She worked in the stereo department, so she told her husband, he told me, etc. There were more than 100 customers lined up to see Mr. Klipsch, he never complained about being surrounded by a horde. ---------------- This was when I met Paul Klipsch.
