  1. congratulations on the great catch gcoker! I never miss a trip to Bjorns whenever I'm in San Antonio (which isn't often enough)!
  2. The Dyna ST-70 certainly deserves a spot as the most widely proliferated tube amp ever. Can't help but wonder what a list compiled by PWK would have looked like. When I met him in '85 he mentioned liking a Crown 10watt tube amp.

  4. Might be of interest to some of you. I have no connexion to Partsconnexion. Simply passing on the link from their newsletter. Have had good dealings with them in the past. http://www.partsconnexion.com/econnexion/econnex_v3n2/AugustNewsletter2004.htm

You can use my place, leave the gear here, and save yourselves the expense of return shipping!

  8. Interesting article in the Stars and Stripes about this issue http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=23820 "The 1st ADs return translated into a Baumholder PowerZone gross sales increase of 515 percent to $1,064,429 from $206,421 in July compared to July 2003, when all troops were deployed, according to figures supplied by AAFES." Of course, the whole story needs to be read. While the troops were gone, business was down, way down all over. In any event, this is business that Klipsch is missing. Conversely, the troops are missing out on the best speakers money can buy!
  9. "Better off Alone" Alice DJ lots of remixes out there Other possibilities: "Vital Idol" by Billy Idol, Metallica I've partied with a lot of young filipinas over the past few years. Believe it or not, when they hear some of the old stuff from Modern Talking, the girls instinctively start to move, though the other dudes and I don't really want to hear it.....
  10. Get them now! ChorusII's are killer!

Never heard the speakers. Send the amp and tuner to Craig and you'll have a killer system. My fisher X-100-C amp sounds great. Let me know if you want to sell the tuner. I'd guess it's the match to my amp. Very nice of your wife to do that. She should have a chat with my wife. ---------------- Agreed, she done good!

  13. Rangersix: Second to none! You have a PM! I'm TDY to CRC right now!
  14. Absolutely right! I am in S. Korea right now and there is zero Klipsch on the shelves for the GI's to hear. So, guess what!: They're buying the competition's stuff! Guess what else, I've got plenty of friends over here who would buy Klipsch if they could, some of whom because they have heard my system. I don't think the current situation has anything to do with the late Mr. Klipsch himself, because he was an ardent supporter of our servicemen, especially those stationed overseas. I met him when he visited the Ramstein Audio-Video Club in 1985. A true patriot!
  15. Try pairing Chorus II's with your Marantz 2250. Mine are hooked to a 2385 and the bass is collossal! If you're like me, though, you won't be able to part with the KG'4s! I'm keeping mine for later rear channel use.
  16. Bitburger beer, Schnapps, Scotch and a call to the girfriend. This always improves my sound system My standard answer, though, is a SS Marantz receiver (if you don't already have something better)!
  17. Just came back from 2 weeks vacation in the Philippines, no problems, at least not like this!
  18. I also am not yet (re)married. Let me recount to you a strange mutation on the W/SAF issue! I posted previously that in March, I purchased a pair of Chorus II's in Seoul and packed them in the back of my VW Golf. My girlfriend rode with me all the way back to Taegu without saying a word about them. She hasn't said a word about them since then. Until tonight! She calls me on the cellphone, says hi, how much she misses me, etc. Her: "I saw this beautiful bag today, I fell in love with it! blah, blah, blah" Me: "So maybe you fell OUT of love with me, then! How much is it?, etc. etc..." Her: "Don't be silly, honey, blah, blah, blah....about $300.....! Somewhere between the 8th and 11th blah-blah from her I thought I detected the word: "....speakers...." !!!!!! There you have it, gents! If they don't say something right away, don't think you're home free!
  19. A problem the Heresy 1 has that the H2 probably does not is that the midrange driver mounting screws inside the cabinet can back off over time with vibration, moves, etc. The length and weight ot the mid-horn have something to do with this. It can be fixed, but it happened on my Heresy's from time to time and I would check for this on any set I were looking at.

The 10 is a bit louder and deeper than the 8 and you will need the 10 if your room is big, otherwise the 8 is fine. If you really want a speaker that has a lot of mounting options, than consider the RSX-5's. You can wall mount them and face em at any angle you wish . RSXs come with a mount kit. The RB-35's or 75's would be awesome too, but they are significantly more money. And I honestly dont think you need the bass extension that those speakers will give you that others are talking about. I listen to a lot of classical and dont care nor even have much pipe orange crap. I have about 200 classical CD's many of which I inherited from the mother but I love classical. You just need smooth fast base so a simple RW sub should do the job when you need it better then a bookself speaker thats why I am all for a 2.1 system rather than a 2.0 system. The RB-7's have a lot of bass for a bookshelf speaker, and they definitely sound better all around, but just keep the price in mind bveause the RSX-5s and RB-25s can be had for as cheap as $265 US for the pair! Also, The RW-10 can be had for the low 300's while the RW-8 is in the 200's. But seriously consider the RB-25s or RSX-5s they are very cheap for reference speakers and I dont know about you, but I find comfort knowing I did not saw off my arm and sell it to afford speakers. Also, you dont need a very expensive stereo receiver to power those either. Some of the heritage stuff really requires expensive hardware. Not that it sounds bad on cheap stuff, its just you are wasting so much quality because the speakers could sound a lot better. ---------------- Czilla, glad to see you've finally got good some recommendations on the smaller klipsch speakers! My suggestion on driving setup 007 describes setup above would be a Marantz 2275 something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3279&item=5713834047&rd=1 Rationale: the sensitivity of the 007 setup is close to my KG4s, the mid 90db range. My Marantz 2220b worked a little hard to drive the KG4s. When I replaced it with a 2385, I hardly ever got above 1/4 on the volume knob. Lots of us love SET and PP tube setups, if you've got the money, go for it! If I came across a MacIntosh I could afford, I'd ****** it! How much money and maintenance do you want to invest in a bedroom stereo? For the money, a 70's vintage SS Marantz is hard to beat. As edwinr so succinctly stated about klipsch: best speakers at every price point, I've come to believe the same about vintage Marantz equipment. My experience with them says somewhere between a 2245 and a 2275 would drive the setup 007 describes nicely, warmly with prodigious bass. Early SS Fisher, H.H. Scott and Sherwood receivers are worth a listen, too. Sometimes you can get lucky and pick up the right equipment at a yard sale or a pawn shop (like my 2385).

I just grabbed that pic off internet as example. ---------------- for me, a klipsch speaker beat almost(it should be some ecxeption) any other non klipsch speakers of the same price.but it s because i fall in love of the klipsch sound. some people don t enjoy the way klipsch speakers sounds. you really should listen to a pair of klipsch speakers. i think you should not buy without listenning before. audio is like food, it s a matter of taste. ---------------- Ditto doudou! Czilla, you must let your ears decide and not the whims and fancies of "audio journalism"! I wandered away from the Klipsch fold for 11 years and am more than happy to be back! You asked previously why some of were recommending old Klipsch vs. new. For me (being in S. Korea) it's a matter of budget and availibility. There are no RF series over here available at a reasonable price. Korea is basically an overpriced country (I have to remind my girlfriend constantly) and when I came across a set of Chorus II's at an audio boutique in Seoul last March, I was willing to pay a premium for them since they were the only pair I had seen for sale in my 9 years here! The Chorus II (and other 80's vintage Klipsches) work very well with my SS Marantz (another budget driven purchase) Fact is a lot of us own Heritage and older Klipsch because we've been in possession of it for a while. Why upgrade when you own the best!

The thing is that I don't know if I have room for them. When I say a dresser I mean something like this (without mirror): http://www.timeinhistory.com/Mah%20Dresser%20w%20Mirror2.jpg" border="0"> Don't think Vintage Klipsch would fit on that. Also....the dresser is HIGHER than my bed. But what about newer Klipsch - the Synergy and Reference Series - are they competetive with the other brands I mentioned? Or is the Hertiage Series the only series worth talking about? THANK YOU! ---------------- From what I've read about the RF series from this forum, you'd better be driving them with DAMN good equipment!
