  1. You have to see her site for more infor. There is a lot there on surround sound as well as pics of her studio. If she says that there was no difference between TOA amps and Marantz tube amps, you have to take her word for it that that is her opinion. Nobody can make you hear something that, to you, is unhearable. (check out the four cornwalls hanging from the ceiling in the studion shot. http://www.wendycarlos.com/photos.html#studios )
  2. "Platinum" and "Elite" sound like escort service names. And don't limit your business name to "home entertainment." So much for free advice. Business names are very hard.

  4. Traveled to visit my mother today and, on a whim, I stopped at a flea market. In stroke of luck, I picked up a PAS3. I have read about the PAS3x version. How do you tell the difference by simply looking at the bass/treble pots? I am going to hook it up tonight. It has all original Dynaco tubes and a virtually spotless faceplate with even the on/off switch lettering intact. Oh yea, the most important stat: $5.00. It was missing one knob for the treble. Cleaned up real good.
  5. So tonight I hear on iTunes Dainbramage a cut from Eric Clapton playing REAL blues. My mind wanders back to the 70s days of In Concert. There were other shows like Midnight Special hosted by Wolfman Jack but In Concert gave you the real deal with great bands playing LIVE. There was no surround sound and most of us watched even on black and white MONO(!). I remember being at a party (that is what we called them) watching Bowie and Reed. I also remember seeing Traffic and Iggy Pop, the latter smearing peanut butter on his shirtless body in a live performance. Somewhere is a vault full this stuff that deserves re-airing to stick it to all the lip-syncing fakers out there taking your money. Is this stuff available any more? A great DVD set could be in the works.
  6. Was the glue cured when you received them? It sounds like you may have slept with them on your pillow.
  7. First: Congratulations. You are buying one-off refurbed one-of-a-kind Cornwalls. You would do well to be happy and grateful that someone would even consider parting with them. Second: They are NOT as good-looking as Gary's zebras. No way. No how. I have seen Gary's zebra's. He has had them since new. They are perfect. They are made with veneer that has a depth that would make one drool. Gary's zebra Cornwall speakers are museum-quality. They are unequalled.
  8. Funny. I read the first line on the products page and I said to myself, "Pass Aleph."
  9. Noting your member name is "BLUESMAN," if your ideal is tight bass line with strong vocals, you may want to consider Lascalas with a strong sub, assuming that you want strong live-sounding performance. The Cornwall may be a little more contemplative than what you are looking for. The Lascala is, from what I have read, more of a PA speaker and to your liking. Footnote: I have only heard the Cornwall and Khorn (thanks again, gary). I own another brand of horns and love my two-ways with sub when needed.
  10. I like the way the recessed lights highlight the k-hornz. Nice! This past weekend, I temporarily put quilts on three sides of the room, hanging on doors, storage cabinets and draped over a large sheet of cardboard propped on the back of the sofa facing the setup. What a difference! I felt I could hear the speakers instead of the room. I am going to work the latter one in permanently somehow.
  11. hmmmm You might be right. The forum gods should set this straight.
  12. A trademark is an adjective. Adjectives cannot be plural.
  13. Here is the correct answer. Guidelines for trademark usage typically state that trademark names should not be used in plural or possessive form. In this case, the proper usage should be "Heresy loudspeakers."

It's about time you replace those Altecs anyway! ---------------- Thanks for thinking of me. It would be, at best, a lateral change, not an upgrade. If there were nice pics, I would definitely give it a test drive, at least. But these are not furniture grade. I admit, my finger was on the trigger, though. My Altec Valencia 846U speakers are quite happy in my house (uh, basement ) and would be very jealous of OEM boxes potentially displacing them. I still have those Type B Cornwall crossovers for the day I get adventurous. It is just a matter of getting the drivers (or comparable). I like the looks of the "decorator" cabinets most.
  15. They would probably have been gone by now if the auction had pics. Veneer would help also. Lots of questions, though. Grills, connectors, I or II, serial numbers, etc. But the seller has 100% positive fb! Listening to new-used Cornwalls would be a great way to spend a beautiful Fall Sunday in Maryland, Virginia or DC.
  16. Bose 6 Speaker Home Theater Speaker System. System includes 5 double-cube speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 speaker floor stands, and 2 speaker wall mounts. Excellent condition - purchased in 2003, won't fit in new living room. Speakers alone retail for $999; asking $500 for whole package.
  17. Actually, thinking about it, with the equipment out of sight, you are less prone to THINKING your system sounds better than it may. A reduced equipment-lust factor?
  18. Bose makes smoke-and-mirrors systems. i.e., You don't ever ask a magician to explain his tricks. You should just enjoy the show. Though, with Bose systems, the ticket is a little high-priced.
  19. GET THAT SEXY TT OFF THAT HIDEOUS STORAGE RACK! Time to get your awesome gear out of the closet, Gary.

  21. Careful on that site. Maybe someone could post their experience, but one of our kids and a friend hit that site and, within a few hours, we had horrendous problems with spyware, autoloaded software, etc. that took over and eventually ruined my wife's computer. I narrowed it down to ebaumsworld as the culprit but I could be wrong.
  22. Did you ask him if there is any hum? That is my first hurdle with vintage equipment. I regret asking that question once.

Everyone should make note that "crap" is merely taken from the name of the originator of the "crapper." In that sense, it is not at all an offensive word. Unpleasant, yes. Offensive, no. Ready for this? A friend (engineer) went to a symposium and heard a lecture by someone named Holger Krapp. No kidding. Google it. British parents, no less. Priceless.
