  1. How about the hailed HF-81 for starters? Or a pair of HF-12s. You can even, with patience, land an original HF-85 and ST-70 for aout $500 (I did!). That way you can experiement with amps and preamps as money avails itself. If you are going to get into this stuff, you might as well allow room for flexibility. You can even hook up with a pair of Fisher, or other, EL-84 monos for around $500. BTW, how does this Scott AMP sound with DVD movies? Does it have the punch and clarity that the amps in my Rotel have for Dolby 2.0 surround processing? I want to use my Rotel as the processor, so that i can use the better DAC's in the reciever instead of the ones in the cheap Sony 300 disc changer, also to get my Dolby 2.0 surround i need digital connections for the processing. Mr. Handel, are you jesting with us? Good job!
  2. ---------------- Just to make somthing clear here I NEVER MENTIONED A SCOTT AMP IN THIS THREAD Geeezzzz ---------------- At least not yet. I am willing to wager that you cannot resist, though. Surely you have one to offer our fledgling tubofile at a moderate cost. (Do you have a laptop sitting over your workbench or something? I'd like to see a shot of your shop.)
  3. THERE ARE OTHER AND BETTER TUBE AMPS THAN SCOTT. What is the loyalty to Scott? Is NOSevalves controlling everyone's minds on these forums?
  4. It's a PASsive search. I don't own one as yet. I have seen a few on eBay but I'm not ready to buy. I have read a lot of good things about these amps and, to be honest, I like the look.
  5. ---------------- Palestein! ---------------- Is that "steen" or "stine?" Lox or creamed cheese on your bagels?
  6. ---------------- I wish I could get rid of that logo, without having to sand the thing down to nothing. ---------------- Can't you just turn the lid over to hide the logo? You guys have too much time on your hands. I don't know how you do it. Great resourcefulness and ingenuity, Mike.
  7. ---------------- While recently trying to find a pair of JBL's to relive my college days in the early 70's ,I discovered the cornwall secret and now would like to find a pair to keep me happy for the next 40 years. ---------------- What is the Cornwall secret? Which JBLs?
  8. I had Smokin on lp in my youth and only have a cassette for the car now. Darned good tight, blues guitar work on "I Wonder." That album seems to have a "small studio" sound, very straight and unlayered, unlike most stuff on the shelves today.
  9. Is there still a warning on the label regarding the potential damage to speakers from the cannons?
  10. Why is almost everything with a WE label so collectible? Especially those horns? Are they that irreplaceably superior in quality? Do WE speakers and other electronics sound that good even for being so old?
  11. I like the public shoe-sole beating scenario. A bunch of grown men beating statues with their shoes didn't impress me much.
  12. Frankly, it would have been better if he had been killed. The last thing we would need is for some "loyalist" to kidnap any of our citizens as a hostage. The sooner the Iraqis deal with him themselves, the better. We can deal with retailiation better than we can deal with hostages. History proves that.
  13. I once had a pair of the Series II with a newer EQ box. If you want a room filled with concert sound stage, the 901 will do it. I fired them up with an Adcom 555II and it seemed that I could play them as loud as I wanted in my basement with little awareness of how much damage was being caused to my ears. Seriously. They can sure fill a space if you set them up right with a wall off which to bounce the sound. BUT, they are not for the discrimiating listener who likes an intimate presence. They would be great for a billiard room hanging from the ceiling, a popular positioning. In fact, they are great for professional setups.
  14. http://www.heathkit-museum.com/hifi/ea-2.shtml is all I can find. I am looking for a schematic telling me what the connections on the back are so I don't JohnFKerry-up my speakers.
  15. How about a Heathkit EA-3? I also have a matching tuner but it needs a knob and one tube does not glow. I have not even had the Amp turned on. Let me know and I'll check it out. I think it has Mullard EL34s.
  16. Diana Krall is terrific ambient music.
  17. Led Zep remasters Vol II from minidisc via Stax SR-30 + SRD-4 in my office reading useless argument posts on whether Krall is viable as an artist or just playin' the listening public. I wish her and Costello well but, I don't want to hear any duets. Okay?
  18. When Krall learns to play a Hammond B3 and scream, I might listen to her stuff. Zzzzzzzzzzz.
  19. Are you sure you want to build on your KG4s? I had a pair and I tried hard to get performance out of them to no avail. They just didn't bring music to life. For strict HT use, they take up a big footprint for their limited HT output. I'd look around for some better L&R speakers for starters.
  20. ---------------- Well yeah, I guess it would sound closer to a SET amp than an HF-81 since it's A SET AMP. ---------------- This could get ugly, folks.
  21. Rosewood doesn't make them sound any better. Buy why not try to get the most $ for them? He can always relist or take an off eBay offer after it closes.
  22. ---------------- what's a Manssiere? ---------------- Another word for a "Bro." Seinfeld episode #______.
