I met a person who built 16 woofers into his walls. IT destroyed his home. Doors would not close due to twisting of frame work. Windows jamed & would not work. $10,000 worth of damage.

The only POINT SOURCE I ever liked is the TANNOY Westminsters. But of course this is a coaxial horn system, and cost twice as mutch as a pair of K-horns. BUT back to little full range speakers in big horns they still are lacking slam. I think ill try looking for a coax Tannoy 8" or 10" & place them in a Lowther like scratch built horn cabinet.

I would have moved the light switch rather than basterdize a K-horn.

Lets wait & see and give them a GOOD listening.

If the horn is a diffraction horn it will have a wider horizontal dispersion when mounted verticly.

Any way we can attach electrodes to that chair?

DeanG.... Chest pains? Its the other end. I still have a pair of JBL LE-8 HT speakers So called full range. I like them better than LOWTHER. In small horn cabinet designs the LE-8 have a better SLAM at the lower end & LOWTHER sounds enemic (or is it enema). The top end of both still sound too soft . The wizzer cone on LOWTHER & shiny dome on JBL Dont help. The distortin levels on both speakers are pretty high. I have an article in Radio Electronics between Paul Klipsch & Hartly (Hartly Speakers) AS to the amount of distortion (FM distortion) In full range speakers. it was a pretty heated discussion between them. Paul Klipch made mince meat out of him.

Malcolm hit right on the money Brazilian Rosewood is rare. I have some Brazilian Rosewood furniture. (eight pieces) I wouldnt give them up for anything the grain is so beautiful. My wife says I can go but the Rosewood & the Klipschorns stay.

Deang .... Mass in woofer can be beneficial. A mass ring installed on some woofers causes the Fs to shift down & also shift Qts & usable frequency range to smooth out at low end. You can concentrate the mass at the apex of the cone or distribute it over the entire surface of the cone. On high frequency drivers you can go from ultra low mass Beryllium to a special back coated beryllium or just go to phenolic. Mass can at times give you a flatter responce. But every thing cant be equal some trade offs will accure. sensitivity will drop some but who cares. Unless your one of the 1 Watt amp owners.

If I wanted to read that type review. (Song & dance & seltzer in my pants) I would have subscribed to CLOWN REVIEW. But it was Stereophool mag. that was calling for more color & less depth in the reviews. Cory is mutch better now.

TLONGO- You might be experiencing Fletcher Munson curve problems at low listening levels. IN that your ears not atuned to low bass at the softer volume levels. Its easy to blame the speakers when they are REALLY trying to tell you some thing is happening. Try to borrow some body,s McIntosh preamp with a varible loudness control & see what happens. (this is only a check test).

I use razer wire myself. keeps every thing sounding sharp.

I have some zebra wood & it has some darker grain stripes running through it.

Remember the mid & high frequency horns should reproduce the music & not make music. Caulk on a good thick layer. I prefer the TAD TH-4001 or JBL 2397. Both thick wooden horns. As yet I havent heard the newer TAD TH-4003 plus it has a 1-1/2 inch throat. But what is interesting is an Acoustical filter assited tuning in the upper portion of the horn it absorbs any further horn resonence (If any). This horn is already SUPER THICK and can take explosive wave fronts & clean the green off your teeth with the propper mid driver.

ROB... TIMBRAL accuracy (TIMBRE) The quality given to a sound by its overtones. THE RESONENCE by which the ear recognizes the quality of tone distinctive of a particular musical instrument or voice. All you did was SHIFT the resonence. THATS what you ALL heard. Shure you heard a difference I dont deny that. BUT you didnt eliminate the resonence just changed its caracture. THATS what you ALL heard. Lets say.... Its like my face... Some times with a smile...Some times with afrown. But its still my ugly face. YOU ALL saw/heard the same distortion but a shifted resonence. Thats why I said to disconnect the mids & tweets so the upper harmonics wont confuse the issue.
