Belle's anyone, anyone. ---------------- I would love to have the La Scala's, but that plus the coast to coast shipping is not in my budget right now. As for the belle's, I have always preferred the cane grills, but I still seem to have the same problem!
  2. I recently did a bit of experimenting with my system, trying 3 different sources. The inputs I tried came from my CD player, my DVD player, & then a computer with a digital output sound card, switching each from the digital to the analog outputs. I found that my receiver (Onkyo DS-777) has a poor sounding DAC, especially compared to my older Adcom CD player. Even my DVD player sounder better using the analog outs. This is strange, since my receiver has a higher bit rate DAC than my older Adcom GCD 575 . Let your ears decide.
  3. " What Knockers" from Young Frankenstein, as Igor knocks on the door, & Gene Wilder is helping Teri Garr out of the wagon (Well, I guess everyone knows where my mind is!)

  5. I had made an earlier comment about this, I have seen it done a few times. Would there be any advantage to moving the crossover very close to the amp, using the shortest wires possible, & then running seperate wires to each driver? It would almost be the same as the HF-LF speaker outputs! It's almost worth playing with!
  6. I cant believe I missed that button. Please don't tell my boss.... she thinks I am a programmer. Thanks guys
  7. I used to work for a few of the hi end shops in Berkeley, & the high current amps were used mainly for hard to drive speakers, mainly electrostatics & such. Since the impendence was so unstable from one frequency to another, the amp had to "always be there", as one of the salesman always told customers. High current means that it has lots of reserve standing by, and it can pump it out fast when needed. BTW... we never sold them with Klipsch. Tubes or class-A SS were usually prefered.
  8. I guess I need to update my web site. Since that last pic, I have sanded & stained them. They now match the rest of the wood in the room. Justin: Can you tell me how are you inserting pics?
  9. That is too cool!! Thanks!

  11. I have never measured it for specs. I was just playing around one day after pulling the parts out of it to build the center. I screwed in the Infinity 1220w & connected it to the Onkyo (105wpc) out, & the walls started shaking. I then cut a new back for it & ported it, but it no longer went low enough to help. I went back to the original sealed back. I now use both of them for HT, but they go off during music. It even blends well with the Belle's up to a point, the point when the Onkyo runs out of power, At this point, the Belle's are running around 8-15 watts.
  12. Justin: The original plan was to use these as subs, but the first one I built sounded like S##t. I ended up trying out a Heresy cabinet that I bought off Ebay after I stripped the parts out of it for my center channel project. It worked GREAT! Things were falling off the wall during testing. Heresy cabinets are really solid.
  13. Actually, they are very heavy by them selves, & very stable. I used the same 3/4" plywood as my HBR Heresy's. I was getting a "booming" sound, so I added a brace in the middle & added some foam. In HT mode, the bass goes to the goes to the subs, so I have not noticed any 'rocking'!
  14. If you are not firm on a new setup, there is always Ebay. You could pick up a few Heresy's. They usually go for about $400 a pair. This would even leave $$ for a decent sub.
  15. In my past experience with Heresy's, (I have had 4 pairs) any time I raised them off of the floor, they lost all of their bass. The best thing I ever did was to install the slant risers. This kept them on the floor, but they suddenly seem to fill the whole room with music. I am currentently using Heresy's for my rear surround speakers on 4 feet high matching plywood boxes (see pic below). They work great for surround, but when I play music from them, they have very little bass. http://www.cyclonecj.com/theater/im007242.jpg
  16. The D1010LT is $279.95. If you click on the "add to cart" it gives you the price.
  17. After our last conversation, I will also be watching this. I almost went out & bought one this weekend, but could not find one local. I am curious to know if you will be using the digital out or analog?
  18. I have about 100 winamp playlists saved for every occasion, including the default one that plays automatically on startup that includes everything. Since I have ripped all of my CD's to the computer, its like having my own personal radio station, & I can pipe it all over the house, & I also have a VPN to my work, so I am never without my own music.
  19. Josh: I guess I should have highlighted something above. I use the computer output sound for non-critical listening only, such as when I am on the computer, cleaning the house (rare), in the garage, etc. In this case, winamp with 800+ MP3 songs on the playlist in shuffle mode is the best. Even my 300 disk Sony player can only program 50 tracks, which I was very disappointed with, not to mention the lag time while changing disks. You have given me much to think about, & I will be looking into the M-Audio. There is always room for improvement! Besides, I can write-off any computer parts! If I am going to sit down & listen, the disk goes into the Adcom & everything is direct to the Belle's.
  20. Can a computer tech get in on this one? I have to admit, After reading this forum, I was getting a little scared, & I had to go do some research. I am using a computer in my system for non-critical listening using a sound blaster live card (for MP3 playback). I have a connector from the digital output to my HT receiver. I thought I was doing ok until I read the specs that you were looking for. But I felt better when I confirmed that CD's are recorded at 16 bit, 44.100, & the SB live card is capable of that. I have also used it to record many of my albums to computer, but directly into wav files, 16 bit, 44.100. and to me, they sound the same as the original, and can be burned direct to Cd in this format with no loss. From there, they can be converted to MP3 using a good converter. If you check my web page, you can see the computer on its side in a black case -- most people don't even notice it! Mallett: I also use Winamp, but the keyboard was not doing as well as I had hoped. Have you looked at www.streamzap.com ?
  21. Moon: On mine, the upper front cover comes off with just four screws after the horns are removed, & the grill cloth is stapled on from the back. I am not sure about the bottom covers. However, once you get them, I think you will like the Cane grill. It seems to be prefered. It gives it a richer look.
  22. Funny: It does not describe any results or advantages to bi-wiring, however, if you go to the link on bi-amping, it describes a "blur" between terms, and then shows the method I used to use.
  23. Someone else recommended the same thing to me, but I decided that I wanted to go with the original grill cloth. I plan on covering up the front panel the same way as the Heresy's, so the box ( as well as the crooked cuts -- I am not a good wood craftsman) will not show. My rear Heresy's were raw HBR's, so it will match that way.
  24. I created a custom Heresy center by using the original crossover, tweeter & mid horns, but then used a pair of Infinity 8" subs for the bass. I tried to make the box the same size as the original Heresy, but it was just not right. I then got the dimensions that were recommended for the subs, built a new box, & it works great. I had it hooked up next to another Heresy, & was almost unable to tell the difference, & in some cases, it even seemed a bit warmer. It sounds great next to the Belle's. You can see pics on my web site below. I am in the process of ordering original heritage grill cloth to cover it.
  25. Pathos: Using your reasearch, would it make sense to just move the crossover close to the amp, using a very short cable, then seperate wires to each driver? This would make sense if long cable runs are needed. Also, the only time I ever had to do this was for power hungry speakers. Us Klipsch users don't need to think like that.
